4 Faith Formation Schedule We will not have Religious Education Classes from December 20-January 3 rd. Please take this time to enjoy with your family. If your child has missed any classes, this is a great time to make up those classes. Go to the Religious Education Website and check the Lesson Plan for their class to see what chapters your child missed on the day(s) that they were absent. Classes will resume: Thursday, January 4 - Confirmation Class Sunday, January 8 Tuesday, January 9 Why is it so important that we register in a parish? Isn t it good enough that we go to Mass? Registration is the official way we join a parish community. Many people think that because they attend a particular parish they automatically belong. At times young adults who have moved away for years think they are still signed up under their parents. But membership requires signing up, formally enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration is a commitment to a community, a way to be inclined in the religious, social, and ministerial activities of your parish. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census numbers can determine how many priests are assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the community has to the diocese, and how Masses, confessions, and devotions are planned and scheduled. Registration shows you belong. It is also necessary for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining sponsor certificates, and getting donation statements for taxes. Most importantly, it lets the parish count on you, to call on you to assist in its mission. Registering in your parish is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and work of your parish. Saturday, January 20 th at 7 PM On Saturday, January 20 th at 7 PM we will have our annual Family Bingo Night in Monsignor Walsh Hall. Come enjoy a night of fun with your family and friends from St. Mary s Parish. Feel free to bring snacks to enjoy and share but be sure to save room for our ice cream sundae bar! The Parish Center will be accepting donations of gifts (recycled Christmas or any other small gift) to be used as prizes. Gift cards in small denominations are also welcome. 5 Today s gospel is my favorite of the season. It causes me to wonder about these 3 travelers from the east. Here are some thoughts: They were seekers. Seeing the star stirred something inside them and resulted in an adventure of epic proportions. They were generous men of means. They had riches to finance the journey yet gave a significant portion (The cost of the return trip?) to the family whose baby was born in a manger. They were blessed with an Epiphany God revealed Himself to them. They were insightful They realized Herod s malicious intentions and request that they report back to him the infant s location. They were open to the direction to which God called them They returned home by a different route. (Something I believe to be an allegory of personal transformation.) This is a time of year where many evaluate past goals, revise life plans and profess renewed resolve in the form of resolutions. May the wisdom of the three Magic men inspire us as individuals and as a church community.
