Callaghan s new radio program, Connecting the Diocese had its inaugural broadcast on the four Relevant Radio stations in the Diocese of La Crosse on April 13th. As this is a new venture, the show will repeat on April 27 at 9am, April 28 at 10am and April 29 at noon. Promoting the faith and communicating with the Catholics of a geographically large and diverse diocese is not easy. Just ask Bishop Callaghan who traverses the 19 counties on a regular basis. Connecting the Diocese, an initiative produced in conjunction with Relevant Radio, is the Bishop s effort to help bring the diocese together. In the inaugural broadcast, Bishop Callaghan offers a welcoming statement for his listeners: Hi everybody, it s good to be with you today. This is our inaugural show and we are definitely interested in hearing what you have to say and listening to your points of view; we ll make that available to you as we go along.to be able to allow for your comment, your input that s really what the whole point of this radio program is about. Listeners in the inaugural show will learn where Bishop Callaghan grew up and how he came to be a priest. He also talks about his various assignments as a priest and of his reaction when he was informed that the Pope selected him to become an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and later, the bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse. In addition to Bishop Callaghan, guests on future programs will include diocesan curia members, visitors of interest, and interviews with the people of our parishes including interviews with the clergy and laity from across the diocese. People who are unable to listen to Relevant Radio can listen to the programs that will be posted as MP3 files at and at following their airing. Baptism Classes. Parents who will be having a child baptized are required to attend one of the Baptism classes. Scheduled dates: May 18, and July 20th, Classes will be held at the Parish Center at 6:30pm. Please call the parish office, when you wish to schedule your class date. We recommend that you attend these classes during your pregnancy, before your baby is born. Baptisms are scheduled at Masses on the 2nd weekend of the month or other times by appointment. CARDINAL RAYMOND LEO BURKE TO SPEAK AT MARI- AN CONFERENCE at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse on July 27 & 28, This conference will examine Pope Benedict s directive to Let us allow ourselves to be touched by her gaze. Highlights of the conference will include Mass and dinner with honored guests His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura and founder of the Shrine, and Bishop Joseph J. Madera, retired auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. This conference is an excellent opportunity to enhance your faith and learn more about the miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Shrine in 33La Crosse. In addition to informational speakers, the schedule will include Mass each day, group rosary prayer, and time for personal reflection. A hotel and conference package will be offered. 5 Community Events AN EVENING WITH THE BISHOP Come and follow me, I have a plan for you. This message has been heard by our seminarians and to help them to fulfill their vocation they need our support. Each year we offer the opportunity for benefactors to meet Bishop Callaghan and seminarians. Through these annual gatherings we raise money for their education and formation. Over 35 men will be in college and theology seminary formation. Given this blessing and the difficulty of raising funds for non-profit organizations in today s world, we want to extend our invitation to people who support our seminarians and their commitment. We want to say thank you to those individuals who support vocations, as well as provide a fine dining experience in both the La Crosse and Wausau area. There will be 2 opportunities to meet the Bishop and seminarians. In La Crosse, we will be gathering the evening of July 22nd at the Waterfront Restaurant, and in Wausau on August 17th at the Great Hall at The Grand.
