How has our prayer been? Have we been consistent in Sunday worship and keeping holy the Sabbath? Have we reflected on our weaknesses and availed ourselves of the grace of the sacrament of reconciliation? Have we spent time loving our neighbor? Advent is a time of joyful expectation as we look forward to the gift of the Christ child. The expectation or excitement is two fold: looking back with awe at the first coming of Christ, as well as the expectation of His second coming, at a time, we do not know. We are called to be always prepared, waiting as a faithful servant, the Master s return. This means keeping the house in order, and the temple or house he is returning to is our very lives. If we have been careless in our attention to the Master s house we now have the opportunity to change, to rededicate ourselves to being always ready for the Master s return. If we need the sacraments of forgiveness or the assistance of deeper prayer we have the ability with God s grace to change and grow. If we have neglected our relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ we can reach out in love. If have failed to visit and worship God on Sundays we can renew our dedication to thanking God for all He has done for us. May we use this time of Advent to live with excitement the joyful news of Christ s coming, and may we be always ready to greet him whenever and wherever He may appear. Use the lights and decorations that have already appeared to lift your spirit and bring feelings of joy and excitement as we await our Lord and Savior s return to us, this time not as a child, but in His glory. November 29-Dec. 5, 2009 Baptism Classes. Parents who will be having a child baptized are required to attend one of the Baptism classes. Scheduled dates: January 15, 2010 and March 19, Classes will be held at the Parish Center at 6:30pm. Please call the parish office, when you wish to schedule your class date. We recommend that you attend these classes during your pregnancy, before your baby is born. Baptisms are scheduled on the 2nd weekend of the month at Masses or other times by appointment. 5 Community Events CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVING. We have a number of families who are in need of assistance with Christmas gifts this year; even a family who lost their home in a fire. If you can help, there are slips in the back of each Church. Please take whatever you can, purchase the gift and wrap it. Then attach the slip to the gift and bring it to the Parish Office by Thursday, December 17th. We will see that the families have these gifts by Christmas. Please help! Your generosity is very much appreciated at this special time of year. PRAYER CHAIN. If you (or someone you know) are seriously ill or facing surgery, and would like prayers, please call Dee, or Norma, ELIZABETHAN MINISTRY. Please contact Amy Dreger at if you are expecting a new baby. A Bible Study is held on Wed. at 9:30am in the Parish Center. Please bring your little ones and join us. PARISH SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE will again be collecting baby supplies to go to the Apple Pregnancy Care Center, a anti-abortion, pro-abstinence group which provides counseling, baby supplies and education to women and families. Needed: disposable diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, baby shampoo & lotion, new baby clothes ( size 0 to 4) baby monitors, breast pumps or maternity clothes. Box in back of Churches. If you have questions call Ron or Sharon at EUCHARISTIC ADORATION for THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS Our parish will be offering Eucharistic Adoration on the 1st Thursday of the month. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00am followed by adoration all day until 6:30pm in the Benedictine Chapel, located in the Parish Center which is (handicapped accessible). The 3:00pm hour will begin with the praying of the Divine Mercy Chapet. The 4:00pm hour will be designated as a Family Hour, providing the opportunity for parents to bring their children. Sign-up sheets are located in the back of both churches and outside the Benedictine Chapel. If you are able, please sign up for an hour. For questions, please contact Liz at the Parish Center, (daytime) or Norma at (evenings). INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK. Please keep in mind that we will be hosting the homeless at Beacon House the week of December 27 (Sunday evening) through to Sunday morning January 2. ADVENT RETREAT at St. Bede Center on Saturday, December 5 from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Advent and Christmas puts special stress on most of us, even in good economic times. We have accumulated traditions, put expectations on ourselves and are trying to live up to the expectations of others. To help us celebrate Christmas more sanely, simply, and meaningfully is the purpose of this day of reflection and sharing. Hopefully this will carry us beyond the season into the whole of our lives. Participants also have the option of overnight Friday evening and staying for 4:30pm Mass on Saturday evening followed by dinner. Pre-registration by November 27 is $50. Scholarships are available.
