Holy Hour for Life: A Holy Hour for Life will be held on Sunday, January 21, at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Parish as part of the Archdiocesan observance of the National Day of Prayer and Penance. This Holy Hour will be held at parishes throughout the Archdiocese so that we will be praying in solidarity with the thousands of pilgrims going to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life. Sponsored by St. John s Parish; St. Joseph Parish, Quincy; we will pray together for those who have been wounded by abortion, for respect for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, and that those who govern us may be guided by justice, truth, and a love for the gift of life. The Holy Hour is organized by Boston Deacons for Life in collaboration with the Pro Life Office of the Archdiocese of Boston. Please join us, all are welcome. Since 2015 Mother Olga and the Daughters of Mary of Nazareth have been a constant presence not only here in our community but throughout Quincy. They are involved in ministry at the Friends of the Unborn, and are a constant source of prayer for the people of our parishes. Their Order relies primarily on private donations and benefactors for their support. Thank you in advance for your generosity to the sisters. In your envelope package you have an envelope titled Special Collection. Please use this envelope for the second collection on January 20/21. Thank you for your ongoing support of the parish s 2017 Grand Annual Campaign. SODALITY BAKE SALE! St. Joseph s BVM Sodality will be sponsoring their annual Super Bowl Bake Sale the weekend of February 3 rd & 4 th after all Masses. This is a great opportunity to purchase some delicious goodies from the best bakers in Quincy. Meeting Christ in Prayer is an eight-week guided prayer experience based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola. By prayer, reflection and faith sharing Meeting Christ in Prayer can bring people to a new level of discipleship and to a renewed sense of Christian mission. The Meeting Christ in Prayer group meets once a week for eight weeks with Sister Anne D Arcy. Participants pray with suggested scripture texts daily. 4 JANUARY 21, 2018 EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS Everyday Stewardship I use GPS wherever I go and it serves me well most of the time. However, sometimes it leads me to a place that does not exist. Then there are those times when I am about to turn and the man inside my phone shouts out, "GPS signal lost" or "Rerouting!" The problem is when the area is unfamiliar to me, I have no choice but to listen. I could try to get where I am going by simple intuition or pulling over to look at a paper map, but I don't trust my sense of direction and haven't bought a paper map in close to a decade. Many people move through life without any direction. They find themselves constantly rerouting and wondering when they will ever get to a satisfying final destination. What they need is a compass and a companion for the journey, yet they have no idea how to get either. Prayer can serve as a compass and it connects us to a companion for the journey. Stewardship living is impossible without prayer. If we count on our own will and believe we can become fruitful without daily contact with the divine we can find ourselves looking for directions more than moving toward a destination. God through prayer will help us see all we have as gift. God through prayer will lead us away from materialism and selfishness toward freedom and generosity. Even when we fall to sin, the path back is clearer. God's GPS signal is never really lost. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS How Can You Help Increase Priestly Vocations? St Joseph's BVM Sodality has a program devoted to praying for priestly vocations. Families or individuals volunteer to take home a crucifix for one week and daily recite the prayer for vocations. This is a simple prayer to inspire men to serve God and His church and follow in His footsteps. There is a sign up sheet in the entrance of the church; Please choose the week you participate. When it is your designated week, pick up the crucifix in the sacristy on Saturday/ Sunday and sign it out. Please return and sign in by the 4 pm the following Saturday so it is available for the next family.
