Dhein if I would write a few lines of introduction, as you may be seeing me around in the near future, if not already. My name is David Sandquist. Originally from St. Paul, I will be residing at the Sacred Heart rectory and spending some time in your parish for the next few months as a prospective seminarian. While here I will have the opportunity to observe and to help with a variety of parish needs and ministries, working in cooperation with Fr. Dhein and the parish staff. My service here will be largely voluntary, and will be a means of gaining additional ministry experience for myself, while at the same time providing help to the parish in certain areas. I should say that I am not coming in cold as I already have experience as a school teacher, and as a student of theology, and hope to utilize this background to some extent during my stay. In the past I have also been involved with the liturgical ministries of lector, Eucharistic minister, and altar server, and certain aspects of pastoral ministry as well. I am very grateful for the opportunity to live and work in this community during this period, and in this parish particularly. In addition to my activities within the parish, I will be assisting with freshmen religion classes at Regis High School on a weekly basis. I am looking forward to my stay here, and I m sure I will find it a rewarding experience. PARISH FAITH NIGHT Wednesday, February 6th beginning with dinner at 5:30pm followed by 6:15pm presentation with Diane Horn, wife, mother, grandmother & chaplain at St. Joseph s Hospital; Ash Wednesday Mass at 7:00pm. Please join us! Baptism Classes. Parents who will be having a child baptized, are required to attend one of the Baptism classes. Scheduled dates: March 28th, 2008 and May 23, Classes will be held at the Parish Center at 6:30pm. Please call the parish office, when you wish to schedule your class date. We recommend that you attend these classes during your pregnancy, before your baby is born. Baptisms are scheduled on the 2nd weekend of the month at Masses or other times by appointment. SACRED HEART ST. PATRICK S ANNUAL COMMUNITY LENTEN MASS, LUNCH AND DAY OF ADORATION will begin on Friday, Feb. 8 and each Friday through March 14th. If you would be willing to volunteer to prepare a meatless lunch for one of the following Fridays, please call Judy at the parish office, A free will offering for lunch will be accepted to help cover expenses. We will serve lunch: Feb. 8th, Feb. 15th, Feb. 22nd, Feb. 29th, March 7th and March 14th. ALSO, there are sign up sheets in the back of Church for Adoration at Sacred Heart Church on Fridays during Lent beginning after lunch. THE SISTERS OF MERCY OF THE HOLY CROSS will be sponsoring an opportunity for single women to experience vowed religious life first-hand. Come...Follow Me! will be held on the weekend of April 18-20, 2008 at the Clare Center on the Holy Cross Campus, 1600 O Day St. in Merrill Wisconsin. Arrive Friday evening between 7:30 and 8pm. Events will be planned throughout the weekend which will conclude with a Sunday morning liturgy followed by lunch. Cost is $25 per person and includes meals and lodging. Our hope is to provide a quality facility that would attract young people, to a place where they can have fun in a Christian environment. The new Youth Room will be located on the third floor of St. Patrick School. (The former library). To accomplish this we are looking for high quality furnishings that are durable and will last. LENTEN REGULATIONS: The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6. Lenten regulations are as follows: Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent, and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to this regulation may eat only one full meal.
