3 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Here we are in the bitter chill of winter. I applaud you for excellent attendance at Mass, especially in Plymouth where parking is definitely at a premium. The flu season has arrived. Because of this, we will take our usual precautions. The cup will not be offered until flu season is over. It is also advised to refrain from shaking hands during the Sign of Peace and finding an alternative way to greet one another in peace. Stay warm and healthy! Fr. Leo The Power To Change Water Into Wine Most of us would claim we lead very ordinary lives. We don t really stand out among our peers. We are average. This holds true with our giftedness. How many of us acknowledge that we are gifted in some way? When we are complimented we usually try to downplay the compliment. We say for example, it s nothing really, anyone could do it. Why are we so hesitant to admit to ourselves and others that yes, I do have a gift? This weekend s Gospel passage is of the wedding at Cana. Jesus turns water into wine. Jesus provides for the needs of the wedding guests, which allows them to continue their celebration. Jesus has the same power of transformation in our lives. He can transform what seems to be an ordinary gift into something quite extraordinary. All we have to do is acknowledge our gifts, pray for God s guidance, and put them into practice, and great and wonderful things can begin to happen. You may be saying to yourself: What can I do that is so great? How can I make a difference in the world? Perhaps you are forgetting about the friend you listened to for hours, as they shared with you a great burden or sadness in their life. To them your gift of listening may have had a more powerful effect than you realize. And what about the time you gave food or clothing to the poor, or money to a charity? You may have saved a life. Then there is, perhaps the greatest gift, the gift of faith. With faith we can help people see that their lives have greater meaning and purpose. With faith we can pray for those in need. Our faith can be a most powerful instrument of God s work. We may not be able to change water into wine, but through the giving of ourselves in service we can change tears into laughter and return to wholeness those who are broken. Are you simply an ordinary person with ordinary gifts? Not in God s plan. And not in the eyes of those whose lives you have Adorers Needed For Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays at the Marian Center Eucharistic Adoration at North American Martyrs Oratory is every Thursday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Adorers are needed from 10:00 to 11:00 AM and 1:00 to 2:00 PM. We are also in need of alternates. Please call Sandy at the office at if you would be willing to help. Question of the Week The miracle at the wedding feast in Cana is the first sign of Jesus' divine identity in the Gospel of John. We hear that after the disciples witnessed the water turn into wine, they "began to believe in him." Do you recall when you first started to believe in Jesus? ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Bishop Peter A. Libasci invites all couples celebrating an anniversary in 2019 of 10, 15, 20, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 55+ years, to attend the Spring Wedding Anniversary Mass. This celebration will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Cathedral, Manchester. To register, please contact your parish office by February 1, The parish office will gather and submit all necessary information. Once registration has been completed by the parish office, all registrants will receive an invitation to this special celebration. Couples celebrating anniversaries of 5, 25, or 50 years will be asked to register later for a fall celebration. 4 January 20, 2019 Why should I register with the parish? There are many reasons to register. Here are just a few. A sense of belonging and identity in a parish community. Provides the parish community with a way to welcome you. In times of joy and in times of struggle, it is comforting to have the support of a faith family. It is a commitment to practice your faith. Gives the parish a way to connect with you. In order to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, or to get married, you will need to be a registered member. For Faith Formation instruction and Sacramental preparation, the families of those attending must also be registered parishioners. Allows the parish to keep you informed on upcoming activities and for you to receive the Parable magazine.which keeps you up to date with Diocesan information. Please stop by the parish office to pick up a registration form Registration forms can also be found in the rear of each church. Did you know? The Diocese of Manchester requires all adults who regularly work with children and youth in our parishes, schools, and camps to complete background checks. Recently, we began renewing these background checks every 4 years. This is just one of the efforts undertaken by our diocese to protect children! Cornerstone Women s Retreat Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5, 2019 Silver Fox Inn in Waterville Valley This year s theme is: Seeking Paths to Holiness While each of us is on our own personal faith journey, our destination is the same. Our Lord Jesus Christ has tasked us all with living holy lives, to serve others and to be the face of Jesus to those around us. There are pamphlets at the back of church with more details. All women are welcome. CPR Course on Sunday, January 27th There will be a CPR certification course offered at the Marian Center on Sunday, January 27th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The course will be taught by Captain George Clayman of the Bristol Fire Dept. The course is $25.00 and there will be refreshments. Homebound Ministry If you or someone you know is homebound and would like to receive a communion visit, please call the Plymouth office at and talk with Deacon Mike. Day Away Program Day Away is a social program for adults with early stages of Alzheimer s or related Dementia. This program provides their caregivers a much-needed respite and relief from constant care and responsibility every Thursday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. For the participant, activities include games, crafts, bingo, local entertainment etc. Volunteers are needed from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm or 11:30 am -3:00 pm. The two university lots on the corners of High St. are available for your use. We ask that you please leave the street parking and the lot across from the church for our elderly and handicapped parishioners who have trouble walking. Thank you for your cooperation.

5 What s That New Building in Plymouth? The Holy Trinity Parish Christian Life Center If you are new to the parish, or visiting, perhaps you might be wondering what the new building is beside St. Matthew Church. We are building a place for Catholic growth of faith in the heart of central New Hampshire, the Holy Trinity Parish Christian Life Center! Here s what the center will provide. We ll all have easy access to restrooms, meeting spaces, and parish offices. We ll find the church open on weekdays to use for personal prayer outside of Mass. We'll have a dedicated, sacred space to celebrate Reconciliation. We'll meet in open, sunny spaces that we can quickly arrange to accommodate small and large gatherings. We'll have a new, spacious kitchen for preparing meals and serving bereavements, luncheons and receptions. If you would like to contribute or learn more information about this project, please ask Deacon Mike. The building sketches can be found in the back of the church.
