Lenten Rice Bowls We are blessed in so many ways; let us make our self sacrifice this Lent a blessing to others. This year the funds from our Rice Bowls will be divided two waysone half to Catholic Relief Services to assist people of the world suffering from life threatening poverty, war, and disasters; and one half to our local SVDP. Today, Palm Sunday (March 25th), there will be baskets on the steps of the sanctuary. When you arrive for Mass, please present to Christ your offering for those in need. The blessing of your Easter food is a wonderful tradition in many Catholic families. It is a great way to prepare for Easter and to talk about scripture and family stories, make special holiday foods together, and more. Children bring your baskets to be blessed. Most foods traditionally served on Easter have meaning or represent something. MARCH OATMEAL Thank you for your generosity. Easter Flower Donations This year, as in the past, Faith Formation will be hosting Family Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, March 30th at 12:00 noon. This service is very rewarding and provides a wonderful opportunity for your family to spend time in prayer and brief meditation in the tradition of pilgrimage by early Christians who traced the steps of Jesus walk to the cross. If you would like to donate to the purchase of Easter Flowers and decorations, you can do so in one of two ways: 1. Use the envelope that is provided in your Offering Box. 2. Use a plain envelope and write your name and name of those to be remembered. The list of names will be printed in the Easter Sunday bulletin, April 1st. Lenten Reminders Fast and Abstinence Good Friday, March 30th is a day of abstinence from meat and also days of fast, that is limited to a single full meal. The law of abstinence (No Meat) binds all Catholics 14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday. The other Fridays of the season of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Mass Times While Traveling? 5 Palm The Twenty-third Sunday of the Sunday Passion in Ordinary of The Lord: Time September March 25, 10, Question & Answer: At church, they keep inviting us to celebrate the Easter Triduum. What is this? Triduum means "three days," usually referring to Christ's resurrection from the dead "on the third day." The Easter Triduum refers to the three days beginning with sundown on Holy Thursday and ending with evening prayer on Easter Sunday. Reckoning days from sundown to sundown is still evident in both Jewish and Christian practice. The Easter Triduum celebrates one continuous feast spread over three days. That feast centers on the commemoration of Christ's passion, death and resurrection, beginning with the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday evening. The Holy Thursday liturgy flows into a vigil experience with Christ in the Garden. The vigil continues to follow Christ through the Good Friday events of his arrest, trial, scourging and nailing to the cross, leading to his death. Good Friday ends with a veneration of the cross on which Jesus died, as we commemorate his death and burial. Holy Saturday is spent in quiet reflection on Christ entombed as we anticipate the resurrection joy fully celebrated at sundown during the Easter Vigil. Nine Scripture readings recount God's constant love from the beginning of time, culminating in the person of Jesus. During the Vigil, the elect are fully initiated by being baptized into Christ and fully welcomed at the community's eucharistic table. The Triduum Easter feast culminates with the Resurrection joy of Easter Sunday. The one continuous feast comes to a close with Easter Sunday's evening prayer. Make an effort this year to enter fully into the one continuous feast of the Easter Triduum.
