From the Pastor s Desk My dear parishioners, at very outset let me wish you all a HAPPY and JOYFUL EASTER. Egyptian pyramids are world-famous as one of the Seven Wonders of the world, but they are actually gigantic tombs containing the mummified bodies of Egyptian Pharaohs. Westminster Abbey is famous and thousands visit it because the dead bodies of famous writers, philosophers and politicians are entombed there. But there is a Shrine of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, and pilgrims from all over the world visit a tomb there which is empty with a note at its entrance which says, He is not here. The word empty means contains nothing, which is not a good thing say about our wallet or our gas tank. But when it comes to a tomb that is supposed to be full, containing the dead body of a man who claimed to be the Son of the Living God, it IS a good thing. It is a very good thing! And that is what Easter is all about. It is about a tomb that was supposed to be full, but was empty. Because the tomb is empty, our lives are changed forever. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Church in Corinth, And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins (1 Cor 15:17). But He was raised from the dead, our faith is not futile, and our sins can be forgiven. That is the HOPE that we can have, not only on Easter morning, but for our lives and all of eternity. The power of the Resurrection is hope. What is hope? It is not a utopian wishful thinking that things will be okay, but a firm belief that God is in control. Humanity wants to write, direct and decide its own destiny, not knowing that many things are not in its grasp. Advancement in science and technology has made life more comfortable, convenient and connected. Yet more than ever in the relentless pursuit for peace, happiness and fulfillment in life is farther away than ever before. Somewhere the vital piece of the puzzle is missing. Ours is a world gone wrong: natural calamities, violence, mass shootings, poverty and suffering; can anyone look to the future with hope? The answer is a big YES. Easter is a celebration of life, of the victory of Light over darkness and Life over death. Easter, the Feast of the Resurrection, gives us the joyful message that we are a resurrection people. When we accept Jesus as the one true living God and become good stewards of this universe, peace, joy and happiness reign supreme. It is the empty tomb that gave hope to the disciples. Place your life in the hands of Jesus and have hope in Him, and life becomes worth living. Together with the Psalmist, let us pray: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad!
