Wfllngtox (New Zeal), Sept. 6 The Premer has wrtten to the Governments of all the Australan Colones nvtng them to jon n protestng acanst the acton of the Hawaan Republc n annexng Necker sl. Mr. Sed-do- n ponts out n hs communcaton that ths was a specally unfrendly act n vew of the fact that the Canadan Conference was sttng at the tme, that t was well known that a Pacfc cable was projected to touch only at Brtsh terrtory, that Necker sl was almost necessary to realzaton of ths project. Both mperal Colonal nterests he consders to have been njured by tbe acton of the Hawaan Government. The only reply receved so far s from Mr. Braddon, Premer of Tasmana, who agrees wth Mr. Seddons vew on tbe matter. t s expected, however, that all the Colones wll concur n the pretest. London, Sept. 7. Offcal crcles regard that Necker sl as always belongng to Hawa, beleve the protest from the Colones d. s Sydney (N. S. V.), Sept. 7. The Cabnet has decded to support New Zeals protest aganst the annexaton of Necker sl by Hawa. There was a "movement on foot on Saturday afternoon to charter Kaala to carry an excurson party to see the wrecked bark G. N. Wlcox. About forty names were obtaned at $5 apece, but for some reason the project was aboned. AROUND CAMPFRE. Pleasant Reunon of Men Who Fought n the Cvl War. The George W. DeLong Post, G. A. B., met at ndependence Pa k on Saturday evenng. About twenty-f- ve members were present a number of nvted guests, ncludng Presdent Mrs. Dole, Mr. W. O. Smth, Mr. "W. E. Rowell, Mr. Mrs. W. W. Hall, Mrs. Remen-schuede- r others. Many of the wves of the members of the Post were there. The pavlon was decked out wth Hawaan aud Amercan flags, wth wreathes flowers. The entrance to the place was lghted up wth lanterns. Pano musc was renderej, Mss Rhoades sang "Tentng Tonght," several other peces. On Mr. Doles arrval, the bonfre, whch conssted of a cord of wood, wth brush, was lghted, the llumnaton was very brght. At S oclock, the party ralled around the beans, hardtackaud doughnuts, coffee bscuts, the best fare whch army lfe afforded. After the lunch, there were some lterary exercses. Dr. K. B. Emerson presded, made a few openng remarks. He stated that many of the facts of the army lfe were never brought to the lght, the occason of a campflre, lke the present one, was the proper place to brng them out. Beans, be sad, were a good marchng food, but worse than bullets n camp lfe. He sad that the Post had a warm feelng toward the new Republc, t welcomed Presdent Dole Attorney-Gener- al Smth. Mr. Dole responded, sad he, of course, admred the movements of the Gr Army, regretted that he dd not wear the button of the Army. Mr. Smth, n respondng, sad that the lttle "Army of Hawa" had been materally renforced, n sprt n person, by members of the old army. A few such men, who knew just how to fght, aud had often been under fre, when placed among men, who were well traned, but were not used to battle, made veterans of them. A hundred such men, t had often been shown, n war, were equal to a thous green troops. t was very satsfactory that, n the case of trouble here, there were so many men who knew Just what to do, would not be trfled wth. "Dr. Emerson mentoned an ncdent of hs army lfe. He was dong pcket duty n Vrgna, near an old fort at three n the mornng, when he was surprsed by a rustlng n the bushes. He challenged, but got no answer, then fred. A scramblng followed, he soon found out that he had shot a roamng pg. Mr. R. J. Greene sad that when at Port Hudson, on the surrender of a rebel fort to the Federals, they marched n to the tune of Yankee Doodle. The rebel offcers sad that t was not etquette to play that tuue when a surrender was made. The Federal offcer repled that whenever Amercan troops were around t was always a good tune to play. Comrade Wrght sad that before gong nto battle he felt very uncomfortable tmd, but when he went nto the lght he was all rght, because he had somethng to do. Mss Rhoades read one of the Euloges on General Grant. Mrs. W. W. Hall gave an account of her army experence wth her father, a Federal general, near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. On one occason, she acted as gude for the Ffth Dvson, through an unknown country, she beng famlar wth tbe roads. Dr. Emerson recalled an ncdent of the Revolutonary War. The waddng had gven out, the captan brought out a copy of Watts hymn book, told the men to "gve Watts to the Brtsh." Thanks were voted to Comrade Wrght, the campflre was put out, taps sounded, tbe meetng broke up. m up m GOVERNOR STONEMAN DEAD. One of Hs Sons s at Present n Ths Cty. Buffalo, Sept. 5. The Rehels at Samoa Surrender But Repent of Ther Bargan. The last news from Samoa s that the rebels have decded to stop fghtng surrendered ther frearms, 200 rfles n all. After the terms of peace where agreed on t s sad that the rebels repented of what they had done commpncf-- to destroy property belongng to foregners. A late Smoa paper sas: "t has been stated that the Atua rebels, who, notwthstng the punshment nflcted upon them at Atua, had joned the Aana contngent, when returnng home from ths latter place burnt the houses of all the Government supporters. t s also rumored that the house of Mr. W. Fraser, a Brtsh subject, has been destroyed am that threats of the destructon of other property owned by Brtth subjects are beng freely made." t Has a Queer Frst Name. Governor Hogg, of Texas, who s makng a tour of the Eastern States, s accompaned by hs daughter. The young ladys name attracts attenton wherever she s ntroduced. t s certanly a queer combnaton, those who hear t for the frst tme refuse to beleve that t s her real name. t s true, however, that ma Hogg s the only name the lady has or ever had. Her mother found the name ma n a novel that she was readng when. Mes Hogg was a baby. She admred the name, so dd her husb, t was gven n baptsm to the nfant before the parents realzed that the Chrstan surname made a queer combnaton. "She s satsfed wth t now," sayb her father dryly, "but she may possbly change t some day." New York World. 6 . m?$ atbtmr -&. ywmm "! TV m JV - s 7 4 SEM -- WEEKLY. TUESDAY. : SEPTEMBER TnEUE a no trouble whatever n obtanng natve jurors, n Honolulu, who wll take the oath serve under the Republc. They may, or may not, be sncere about t. On the whole, t ndcates that whch we have always beleved the general ndfference of the natves to the poltcal stuaton. 2sew Zeal the Australan Colones protest aganst the annexaton of Necker sl to the Hawaan Republc. But, t s sad, the home government do not take ths vew of the case. There wll, probably, be no trouble about New Zeal. He was net a man of ablty, but owng to hs rank he was held n great veneraton by the natves. f the natve Hawaans ever read hstory or cared to fnd out what whte men do, when they are not "mssonares" but only commercal adventurers, they would get some valuable nformaton n the hstory, of the Maor race, whch, nstead of beng "cradled" nursed by the whtes as the natve Hawaans have been, were smply shot down, or robbed, or drven out by the Brtsh colonsts. The papers of the Unted States are despondent over the poltcal stuaton, arsng out of the labor strkes, the long quarrel n Congress over the tarff bll; the Senate s charged wth the crme of brbery n the Sugar Trust matter, there s a general feelng that somethng s wrong. The followng extract from the commercal reporjt of the New Zeal Herald, of the 7th nst., shows that on the other sde of the world, thngs are apparently gong on badly. The month has been dsappontng as regards general turnover, consderng the season s now sprng, htherto yearly gvng some help to the state of busness; but t s not hard to account for the dulness trade tmdty that prevals. Parlament s n sesson, there s a constant fear of what wll be the next legslaton of an unsettlng character. Every nterest s beng threatened, traders, property- -holder, the thrfty classes nenerallv have lost all confdence n the wsdom or even common sense of the Parlamentary majorty. Untl ths state of fear of what the majorty wll next do s at rest there wll naturally be restrcted expendture, a lock-u- p of captal, all the mpedments to vtalty n trade. There s general trbulaton all over the world at present. Manknd, as usual, prefers " rch lvng, no thnkng," to " plan lvng, hgh thnkng," then has bad health. The queston s often asked, at the Advertser offce, "Why do you notce the Opposton press? t only makes them mportant." The Advertser, as a journal of events, must keep a record of what men are dong thnkng about, n these changable tmes. People look to the papers for the news of the day. The loss of a yellow dog, or the gvng of a luau, or the runnng away of a horse, or the beatng of a wfe, or the serous vews of the Opposton press, may be very trflng matters, but ths makes up the humble tale of lfe. Last year n Hamakua there was but sx nches of ran n sx months; ths yeart starts n a lttle better. The ground has been dampened the prospects a few days ago were favorable. f there s one secton of the country that needs ran Hamakua s the one. There are some fne plantatons n the dstrct-an- d n the days when the condtons were favorable the ranfall all that could be desred they pad ther owners hsomely. Nowadays the ran comes from the Northeast, salutes the lsman then goes on to Hlo. Forests are known to attract the ran clouds Hamakua was once blessed wth an abundance of trees. A few years ago the people began cuttng down the tmber before they were stopped there was scarcely euough left to supply lumber for a cabn. The sufferng through ths falls not alone upon the plantaton: the resdents n the vllages must go wth a short supply for tolet purposes ther clothng has to be sent to Honolulu tobo laundred. "We remember that less than a year ago the fortunate owner of a well was dspensng the water at fve cents a gallon. Honokaa s a nce lttle place the resdents are progressve enough to be up wth the tmes; they want f water but they have not yet ht upon a plan for gettng t. "We have canvassed the stuaton qute thoroughly know that the water from the sprng at the gulch near the lng can be forced to the vllage by smply usng a seres ot Aermotors. These would not only pump as great a supply as a 6team engne but t would do t at a very lttle cost ether for the plant n the begnnng or n mantanng t afterward. The Aermotor consumes no fuel, just a lttle free ar the water flows lke water. The 16 foot Aermotor, ether pumpng or geared s n use n several publc prvate nsttutons, as well as on plantatons t has always gven satsfacton. The only power used by the Water Works Co., of Wamea, Kaua, s a 16 foot Aermotor. The romotors of the scheme lave no trouble n collectng ;her water rates because they gve the consumers an abundance of water. There are plenty of vllages on the sls that could be suppled n the same way as long as the well or stream lasted there would be no danger of runnng short. We dont get the statements we make regardng the wonderful possbltes of the Aermotor from our magnaton; we have demonstrated n many dfferent places that the galvanzed Steel Aermotor wll do all that s advertsed for t more than can be done by any wooden mll of larger dameter. The Steel Aermotor has other advantages over wooden mlk; beng lghter t wll run n less wnd; beng constructed of galvanzed steel t wll not rot away cause the bolts to drop out. The Aermotor s galvanzed after t s put together so thatthere s no part unprotected. Another advantage s n the fact that we have every sze Aermotor pump n stock we can delver them on thrty mnutes notce. Can you get these advantages wth other wndmlls.
