3 Focus on Faith Please Pray For Our Parishioners: Barbara Allen, Bill, Bill Bever, Valerie Boggs, Noah Cotter, Jeanette Durant, Linda Fredell, LeeAnn Gilligan, Gerri, Jackie H., Geraldine Hilt, Alice Jensen, Robert McCann, Cory Musil, Brenda Porter, Max Rammer, Madelynn Schieve, Colleen Schroeder, Kelly Dooley Trewartha, Peter Weirich, Lola Williams, Avalon Widner, Lucille Willegal Sacraments Anointing of the Sick: Traveling Chalice This week the Traveling Chalice will be hosted by the Hanus family. Any questions regarding our Traveling Chalice program may be directed to: Colleen at OR Scripture Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord He bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. - Jn 20:5-7 ************************************************************** The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006). Infant Baptism: Registered members of the parish are welcome to arrange for their baby s baptism by signing up for the necessary preparation program for parents. RCIA Please call anytime if you would like to discuss Catholicism and see how joining the Church may offer you a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Catholic Women s Club Contact Jan Bier at for more information. Knights of Columbus Meetings held 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm. Contact Greg Kraft at for more information. Bulletin Deadline Fridays at 12:00 noon. Please contact the Rectory at Readings for Sunday, April 1, 2018 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Acts 10:34a, / Col 3:1-4 / Jn 20:1-9 Readings for Next Sunday, April 8, 2018 Sunday of Divine Mercy Acts 4:32-35 / 1 Jn 5:1-6 / Jn 20:19-31 Would You Like A Pastoral Visit? REMINDER: If you, a family member or someone you know is confined or hospitalized and would benefit from a pastoral visit, please contact your parish office and let them know. Staff does not always know of hospital admissions for a variety of reasons and often has no way of knowing of other situations in which a parish contact would be beneficial.
4 What s Happening Taize Prayer Dan Schutte, songwriter and composer of much of the music that we sing at Mass, offers a reflection on Prayer : It s not that we even need to have something profound to say or need a prayer book or rosary to help us. In fact, all we need to do is sit quietly and allow God to be there with us, letting ourselves bask in the warmth of the Lord s presence. For most of us, our prayer tends to have too many words anyway. Why not make this simple? Maybe it s just about allowing God to be present at that moment. Taking care of us, providing what we need most at any given moment. God is always present if we stop and empty ourselves of the world s cares, if only for a moment. Taize Prayer offers an opportunity for us to simply be in God s presence and open our hearts to God s voice. Join us on Monday, April 9 at 7:00 PM for a peaceful and enriching prayer experience.
