2 News & Notes From the desk of Father Rob.. The Mission Begins! This weekend we welcome Fr. Greg Schmitt of the Redemptorists to our parish. Beginning this Sunday night, he will be leading our mission at 7:00 PM in the church. A reminder that the normal confession time on Tuesday night will be replaced by the mission talk at 7:00 PM, and then confessions will be available if people wish to receive the sacrament after Fr. Schmitt s talk. Please welcome him to our parish community. Eucharistic Adoration: Each Friday after 8:15 AM morning Mass, our parish celebrates the devotion of Eucharistic Adoration. Love for Christ in the Blessed Sacrament goes back to the very beginnings of the Church, but the devotion began in the Middle Ages. The Host is placed in a sacred vessel called a monstrance. It is placed on the altar with candles. It is there that Jesus is really and truly present. He invites us to be with Him, for He said, Could you not spend one hour with me? During the last few weeks, I have been preparing the students in our school to do just that to spend time with Him. If you have spare time during that hour, come to be with Him. Let Jesus speak to you. He waits for you. Act of Entrustment: The bishops of Wisconsin have asked that we pray for peace and spiritual aid from our Mother Mary during this Respect Life month and Year of Mercy. We will be praying this act together for the weekends in October after communion. We need her intercession more than ever. Have a blessed week. Would You Like A Pastoral Visit? REMINDER: If you, a family member or someone you know is confined or hospitalized and would benefit from a pastoral visit, please contact your parish office and let them know. Staff does not always know of hospital admissions for a variety of reasons and often has no way of knowing of other situations in which a parish contact would be beneficial. School News St. Mary School Last Sunday we held our 35th annual Steeple Chase run/ walk. Over 150 people participated in this run/walk to benefit St. Mary School. The weather cooperated and fun was had by all at Riverside Park. Thank you to all the businesses and people that helped to make this event so successful. A special thanks to Jennifer and Ryan Spies for coordinating this event. On Friday our PK-2nd graders will be traveling to the Skelly s to learn about the fall pumpkin harvest. SCRIP SCRIP will be for sale after Mass on the weekend of October 15th/16th. SCRIP is available in the school office, Monday thru Friday... Thank you for supporting your parish & school. For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" - Lk 18:3-4b, 5 ************************************************************** "Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night?" The widow in today's parable didn't give up. She kept "bothering" the judge by coming to him and asking for a decision in her favor. Ultimately, her persistence caught his attention and influenced his behavior. Jesus seems to be teaching us today that this quality of faithful persistence is a good one to have. Thus, he advises us to call out to God not once, not twice, but "day and night." This is a fitting image for the idea of continual prayer; it goes on all the time without ceasing. As this Gospel reading says in the opening line, Jesus wanted to teach his disciples how to "pray always without becoming weary." It's interesting that the method he used for this instruction was to emphasize the reward of such persistent prayer. The parable's conclusion assures us that for those who pray without giving up, God "will see to it that justice is done for them speedily." Perhaps this attractive promise is supposed to keep us from losing hope, from throwing in the towel, from becoming "weary" when our requests don't seem to be getting heard. Following the example of this determined widow, we need not fear to repeatedly make our requests known to God. In fact, we should make a point of it! If we only offer our prayers of petition halfheartedly, without real conviction, persistence, or sincerity, they are not as powerful as they could be. But when we truly commit to taking these requests before the Lord, day after day (and night after night!) then we are displaying a kind of profound faith in God's ability to act on our behalf. So, full of hope and trust, let's keep "bothering" this truly just Judge!
