2 News & Notes School News From the desk of Father Rob. St. Mary School Baccalaureate this Sunday! This Sunday, we recognize our high school seniors. After four long years of study, they are ready to graduate and prepare for the next phase of their life. Some may choose college, others tech school, still others the military, and there are those who are not sure and will work for a time until a direction becomes clearer. Whatever the path they may choose, please pray for them, that they may always choose Christ and involve Him in all their plans. SCRIP REMINDER SCRIP puts your regular shopping dollars to work supporting your parish and school with over fifty retailers.. grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, department stores, hardware stores, movie theaters, spas and more! Similarly, our 8th graders from St. Mary School graduated last week. Their path is much clearer high school. The transition is just as real. It will be a change going from being a senior to a freshman. The change will be a cultural one as well there will not be opportunities for Mass or religion class in the public schools. However, the one thing that our school has demonstrated, and what parents indicated in the school survey, is its excellent academics. Our teachers have worked long and hard to prepare our students for higher education. Congratulations to our 8th graders. May the Lord lead you and guide you. And may the students and teachers of St. Mary School have a restful summer. SCRIP cards are available for purchase after Mass twice per month. Next, the weekend of June 3rd/4th and 17th/18th. You can purchase SCRIP at the rectory during the summer months (beginning June 12th) Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Please call before coming by to be sure someone is available to help you. Bookkeeper Position Available Memorial Day: Last Monday, our city gathered for Memorial Day Mass and a light breakfast afterward. There were over 100 people who came to worship. It was good to see parishioners come together for such an important occasion. It demonstrates the unity of the Church, and our common faith that true peace is Christ Himself. For those who were interested in the book I mentioned on that day s homily, it is called Christ in Dachau by Fr. John M. Lenz. It is a good read. This is a part-time position, approximately hours a week. The candidate must have organizational and management skills and possess good people skills. The responsibilities of the bookkeeper will be the recording of weekly collections and other cash receipts, processing payments, prepare payroll, assisting in the creation and maintenance of the budget, maintain required property, insurance records, and all accounts, prepare monthly financial reports for the Pastor and Finance Council and an annual report to the Diocese of Madison, attend Finance Council meetings when requested, and perform other duties as assigned. The candidate should have an associate degree in accounting and/or have at least 3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience. He or she must also possess the ability of working with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing. A minimum of 2 references required. resume and cover letter to pastor@nativitymary.org or send to Nativity of Mary Parish, Attn: Father Rob Butz 313 E. Please contact the Rectory at Scripture Pentecost Sunday Jesus stood up and exclaimed, "Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. As Scripture says: Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me." He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive. - Jn 7:37b-39a ************************************************************** "Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'" Then, he said it again. And then, "he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" Jesus brings peace, and he brings the Holy Spirit. Peace, in fact, is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Today, on this feast of Pentecost, we remember the dramatic outpouring of the Holy Spirit that came upon those first apostles and the peace that came along with it. But we do more than remember. We also celebrate the presence of this same Spirit in our midst. Through the sacrament of baptism, every Christian receives the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in his or her soul. Thus, the gift of peace is already ours! The question is whether or not we have really begun to appreciate and utilize this most precious gift. Like the apostles who had locked themselves up "for fear of the Jews," we too are capable of imprisoning ourselves in our own anxieties. We fret and worry about the future, about our sufferings or our disappointments, and too often let these concerns stifle the true peace that Jesus offers us. But the Church today urges us to rejoice and to step out in faith like the apostles who left their fears behind them. Peace not only alleviates our fears, it also frees us to live our faith to the fullest, to have the courage to take risks, and to leave our comfort zone for the sake of the Gospel. This is what we are called and, not only that, empowered to do. Anything less is a kind of spiritual poverty we bring upon ourselves. God has given us the gift of himself, present and available in every moment, every place, and every situation. May we recognize this most wonderful gift and give thanks with grateful hearts. The Committee meets from August to May and provides assistance to the Religious Education Coordinator. Claire Bever Jack Blomgren Noah Brown Madison Garvin Gabriel Hanna Margareetmarie LaPlaca Maxwell Rammer Samantha Rennie Kennedy Rude Isabella Schaefer Michael Scieszinski Gustave Strandberg Thank you to our 11th grade students and their families, for generously providing a celebratory breakfast for our graduating seniors and their families. Taize Prayer The slower pace of summer is a welcome change, and these more peaceful days invite us to step back, take a deep breath, savor the moment, and take time for reflection. Taize Prayer does much the same thing throughout the year, inviting us once each month, to simply be in God s presence for about three-quarters of an hour. Once again, we will gather in a candle-lit place of peace, to open ourselves to the presence of the Holy Spirit, to sing simple and beautiful music, to hear God s Word in scripture and in silence, to listen for God s voice in our hearts. Come to St. Mary s on Monday June 12 at 7:00 PM for a peaceful and enriching prayer experience. Looking for a way to include God in your Marriage? Please call Colleen to make your reservation by June 6th at Over 150 years ago, Our Blessed Mother appeared to young Adele Brise twice in a small rural area near Champion, Wisconsin. Our Mother s request was simple, Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation. Adele devoted her life to doing just that. On the ground where she met Our Blessed Mother, there is now a shrine dedicated to Her appearance to Adele, The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. The Shrine is the only Church-approved Marian apparition site in the United States. This summer you can make a pilgrimage to the Shrine along with many of our area parishioners, and see where the apparition took place, take part in Mass and Confession and learn the history of the apparition and Adele s work to fulfill Our Blessed Mother s request. Of course, there is a gift shop too! Our pilgrimage to Our Lady of Good help Shrine will take place June 29, 2017, and will cost $45, which includes transportation and lunch. Lunch includes sandwich, chips, cookie & beverage. Sandwich choices are: Turkey/ Cheddar wrap, Italian Sub or Turkey/Swiss on cranberry bread.
