2 News & Notes Plant Sale Spring is trying to make an appearance and our 7th Grade class has started selling flowers and patio tomatoes to help fund their trip to Washington DC next year. All of the items are again being purchased from Anton s Greenhouse in Kenosha. Please consider purchasing your flowers for spring planting from us. Order forms are enclosed in this week s bulletin and completed forms, together with payment, can be placed in the offertory basket, handed in at the school office or mailed to: St Mary School, 307 E. School News St. Mary School Thank you to everyone who came to support the middle schoolers in their production of Surf s Up. I was unbelievably impressed at the talent and dedication of our students and staff. We are very much looking forward to the pork dinner this weekend and hope to see each one of you there! Thank you to everyone who has donated their time, talent, and money. This past Friday, our youth group met once again and we continue to be impressed with out attendance! The group continues to be a wonderful outlet for our middle school kids to connect and grow their relationships. As our year is starting to near the end we are looking forward to next year! If any Parishioners know of families with young kids who might be interested in attending our school, please do not hesitate to call ( ) or (principal@nativitymary.org). This year, our pilgrims will travel to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine near Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Our Lady of Guadalupe first appeared to Juan Diego, a poor peasant in Mexico, in 1531 and she is the patroness of Mexico. Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine is the inspiration of Bishop Raymond Burke and this year they celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the dedication of the Shrine church. The pilgrimage will take place on Thursday, June 28 and leave from the Nativity of Mary church parking lot. Cost of the pilgrimage will be $45, which includes bus transportation and lunch. More details on lunch and travel times will be forthcoming. Please join is for an amazing and prayerful day visiting Our Lady at her shrine. Scripture Fourth Sunday of Easter "I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again." - Jn 10:16-17 ************************************************************** Today's Gospel occurs in the middle of Jesus' ministry. At first, Jesus' words seem to be about the value of self-sacrifice in a leader. "I am the Good Shepherd? I will lay down my life for the sheep." The Apostles likely would have accepted these words easily enough. But then comes something more strange. "I lay down my life in order to take it up again? I have power to lay it down and power to take it up again." Only later, when Jesus opened the Scriptures to them after his resurrection, would the Apostles understand his words. Only then would they understand why such an act was necessary for the salvation of the world. Even now, we may struggle with the necessity of Holy Week. How often do we hear complaints against the silence of God, as if He is the "hired man" who "runs away" from suffering? Jesus' life, death, and resurrection is our redemption in fact. God himself bears the full weight of sin's consequences. The Paschal Mystery is also a sign that happens in full view of the human experience. We have seen Jesus lay down his life. We have seen him accompany others. "I know mine and mine know me." We have seen him reach those outside the traditional flock, "sheep not of this fold." Jesus is the Good Shepherd, not only in Scripture but in our daily lives. While we can't experience physically walking alongside him like the Apostles did, the grace of our redemption continues through the Church. We are shepherded by the sacraments, by faith formation, by good mentors. At the same time, we are not only the sheep. In imitating Jesus, we, too, are invited to lay down our lives for others. We can be the hands, feet, and shepherd's crook of Christ. It is a 14-foot long finely-woven linen cloth that many believe is one of the actual burial cloths of Jesus mentioned in the Gospels. The Man of the Shroud touring exhibit is free for young and old to see, including a full-scale replica of the shroud. It presents the results of a comprehensive scientific and forensic study with numerous photographs and illustrations. The exhibit is the work of the Center for the Study of the Passion of Christ and the Holy Shroud and Monsignor Giulio Ricci and other scientists, who spent more than 25 years researching the shroud. Can science explain how the image was formed? Were the carbon-14 dating tests correct? The Catholic Church does not take an official stance regarding the shroud s authenticity, but does say that it is an object worthy of veneration. Come and learn about the science and history of the Shroud of Turin, the single most studied artifact of all time, then judge for yourself what it truly is. Camp GLOW June 9, AM-3 PM Edgerton Community Elementary School 100 Elm High Drive in Edgerton, WI Children 6-14 and their parents/guardians are welcome to attend. We ask that all campers register at least two weeks prior to camp. Camp GLOW is for grieving children ages 6-14 and the grown-ups who love them. Since children often experience grief differently than adults, Camp GLOW is designed to specifically address their grief. Staffed by SSM Health at Home s Spiritual & Grief Counselors and specially trained volunteers, the camp gives kids the opportunity to share their grief in a safe space. Because loss affects families, Camp GLOW offers a concurrent session for adults who are not only trying to help their children deal with grief, but are also grieving themselves.
