2 News & Notes From the desk of Father Rob. Graduations: This Sunday, we recognize our high school seniors at the 10:30 Mass. After four years of study, they will be leaving their school and come to a big fork on their earthly pilgrimage. Some of them will go on to continuing education. Some may go into the military. And others may enter right into the workforce. It is a big moment in their lives and one they will never forget. This past week, the eighth graders of our school took their final tests and graduated. While they will not be undergoing a major life change as the high schoolers, entering a big school from our intimate school is certainly a big step. We recognize all our graduates, and may they know that they are in our prayers. May the Lord be their strength in all their future endeavors. Have a blessed week! Prayer for the Graduate Father, I have knowledge, so will You show me now, How to use it wisely and find a way somehow To make the world I live in a little better place, And make life with its problems a little bit easier to face. Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days, And show me how to serve Thee in effective ways. So my education, my knowledge and my skill May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy will. And may I ever be aware in everything I do, That knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from You. Amen. Would You Like A Pastoral Visit? Staff does not always know of hospital admissions for a variety of reasons and often has no way of knowing of other situations in which a parish contact would be beneficial. 2 School News St. Mary School We have emerged to the final week of school. Amazing how it has flown by! We are so proud of our 8 th graders who graduated on Wednesday. It was truly a celebratory ceremony with a special class. They are leaving here with a profound understanding of life, a determination to ask meaningful questions, and relationships that will last a life time. We ask that you keep them in your prayers as they transition into high school next year. We not only celebrated the 8 th graders, but many students accomplishments in our awards ceremony Tuesday morning including accelerated readers, student council, advisory, Knights of Columbus Sponsored Events, and 8 th grade academic awards. On Thursday the 5 th graders held their annual economics day, which was full of bartering and home-made goods. Meanwhile, the P4J through second graders traveled to Green Meadows Farm for a wonderful field trip. On Friday, we celebrated our end of school picnic, with a special surprise visit from Kona Ice. This weekend we gear up for our final week, ending with a school mass at 10:30 Thursday morning. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." - Mk 14:23-25 ************************************************************** In our modern times, symbol can seem to have lost its value. The most recognizable "signs" are ones we see on the road or the branding in advertisements. The logos for major companies don't do much more than perk our interest or disdain. They surely don't deliver on their promises for our lives to be happier, healthier, and easier. On this feast of Corpus Christi, we hear the account of the Last Supper. This was Passover, an ancient sign of the covenant of Moses. The Hebrew people celebrated God's providential care for His people. To the listening disciples, Jesus makes a very bold claim. "This is my blood of the covenant." At the time of the first Passover -- the redemption of the Hebrew people from slavery to the Egyptians -- the blood of the sacrificial lamb was spread on the lintels of the doorpost. Tomorrow, some of the disciples would witness the blood of the new covenant spread across the wood of the cross. Christ's Body and Blood are more than a sign. They are a sacrament. In the sacrament, the sign makes real what it signifies. More than ritual, a sacrament enacts truth of the covenantal love of God and His promise of fidelity. It's a promise God keeps. The same bread and wine of that first Holy Thursday liturgy becomes -- throughout the centuries and until the end of time -- the very Body and Blood of Christ. On this feast, we celebrate the unfailing covenantal love of our God. As you partake in the Eucharist today, and next Sunday, and the Sunday after that, remember that you receive neither a meaningless sign nor an empty offer. You receive God Himself, as He fulfills His promise to remain with us always. How are you creating something beautiful? 4 What s Happening Taize Prayer The slower pace of summer is a welcome change, and these more peaceful days invite us to step back, take a deep breath, savor the moment, and take time for reflection. Taize Prayer does much the same thing throughout the year, inviting us once each month, to simply be in God s presence for about three-quarters of an hour. Once again, we will gather in a candle-lit place of peace, to open ourselves to the presence of the Holy Spirit, to sing simple and beautiful music, to hear God s Word in scripture and in silence, to listen for God s voice in our hearts. Come to St. Mary s on Monday June 11 at 7:00 PM for a peaceful and enriching prayer experience. PILGRIMS STILL NEEDED Nativity of Mary parish is once again offering a pilgrimage opportunity. We have many planning on making the pilgrimage, but still have available seats. Our deadline to sign up is quickly approaching. You must sign up by June 11 to be a part of this amazing day!! This year, our pilgrims will travel to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine near Lacrosse, Wi. Our Lady of Guadalupe first appeared to Juan Diego, a poor peasant in Mexico, in 1531 and she is the patroness of Mexico. Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine is the inspiration of Bishop Raymond Burke and this year they celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the dedication of the Shrine church. The pilgrimage will take place on Thursday, June 28 and leave from the Nativity of Mary church parking lot. Cost of the pilgrimage will be $45, which includes bus transportation and lunch. More details on lunch and travel times will be forthcoming. Please join is for an amazing and prayerful day visiting Our Lady at her shrine.
