May God bless your generosity to Sacred Heart! My Dear Friends in Christ, Have you ever heard a reading from Sacred Scripture and thought, Did God have me specifically in mind with this passage? No, this isn t a selfish thought. Rather, it reflects that God does speak to our hearts in all times and places: and does so in a particular way through Sacred Scripture. This weekend s readings speak in a profound way to all of those who are called to ministry. Jeremiah prophesies that good shepherds will be offered to Israel, replacing those frauds who are, at the most basic level, self-serving. As we continue to listen to Paul s Letter to the Ephesians. Jesus is described as preaching peace to both those who are near and far! In our Gospel, the Lord attempts to invite his apostles to come away for a while, but seeing the desperate crowds, Jesus changes his plans to tend to their needs. Whether we are priest or parent, friar or friend, these readings call each of us who claims the name of Christ to reflect on the example and devotion we show to those who are given to our care. Let us remember to pray that the Holy Spirit strengthens each one of us so that we may do what it is that the Father has called each of us to do in the name of the Son. In other words: this weekend s readings are directed at each one of us! Monday, July 30 is the first memorial of now - Blessed Solanus Casey. At each of the weekend Masses preceding the feast, we will have a first-class relic of Father Solanus available for blessing and veneration. Grades 7 and 8 meet on either Sunday mornings or Monday evenings at 7:15 P.M. R.C.I.A. Adapted for Children This program is designed for the Christian Initiation of children of catechetical age, which the church generally considers to be 7 to 15 years old, who may not have received age-appropriate Sacraments. Children who have not been Baptized, or who did not receive the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation at the regular time may begin this process beginning in September. One of our Girl Scouts is working on a Service Merit badge. She will be collecting used eyeglasses over the summer. Please drop your old eyeglasses in the box in the church vestibule. HANDICAPPED MASS The Annual Mass for the Handicapped will be held in the Sacred Heart High School Cafeteria on Saturday, August 11 th at 12:00 pm. We need volunteers to help decorate the tables, help in the kitchen and serve our guests. Please call the Parish Office at to volunteer. Everyone can help with something. Many thanks to the Westchester Friendly Sons of St. Patrick for sponsoring this event. TACHS PREPARATION PROGRAM A TACHS Preparation Program will be offered at Sacred Heart High School beginning September 15 th. Sessions are available Saturday mornings (8:30, 9:30 or 10:30) or Tuesday evenings (6:30). Parents of students entering the 8 th grade should call DELMAY at for more information
