THE SUMMER WORSHIP WORKSHOP TEAM will be leading our worship songs this morning. They have been working hard throughout the summer learning how to lead worship by using the gifts God has given them. Workshop participants are Julian Bloemhof, Kelsie Bloemhof, Brooke Cummings, Cody Cummings, Molly Enns, Ryan Enns, Gabi Hunter, Meridian Mestez, Sadie Mullins, Bethany Neufeld, Laura Neufeld, Caleb Paul, Brady Paul, Dillon Perez, Kaelah Perez, Emma Rogers, Mackenzie Toews, and Caleb Wilson. Instructors were Brent Cummings, Mason Gonzalez, and Cris Starrh. LADIES FELLOWSHIP will meet this Tuesday, August 18, at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Center to cut and tie quilts. All ladies are invited to come join the fun, no quilting experience needed! SUNDAY SCHOOL & KOFFEE KLATCH Our regular Sunday School classes for the fall has begun, starting off with refreshments at Koffee Klatch at 9-9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Center. Then the adults and children go to their Sunday School classes at 9:30 a.m. The children and youth classes have great teachers, fun activities and great Bible studies. Adults will have the option of attending one of four classes being offered: 1. Joe Moesta will be teaching Lessons from the Life of David in the Fireside Room 2. Barry Braun will be teaching on the Book of Acts in the church basement Room B3 3. Virgil Reimer will be teaching Jesus in the book of John in the church basement Room B2. 4.Grayson and Bonnie Piepgrass will be teaching a course on family living in today s culture - (this class will begin Sunday, October 11 th ) more information will follow. The Beacon class will resume class on September 20. NEW DATE FOR AWANA KICK-OFF! The start of Awana clubs for the year has been changed to Wednesday, September 9! Preregistration begins August 30. Attention all leaders and helpers! Our leader "Kick-off" meeting is moved to Sept. 2 at 6:30 pm in the Dining Room. This will be a time of Planning, Inspiration, Prayer and Challenge as we get set to launch a new club year. Mark your calendars! Wednesday Night Meals and Jr High HiLIFE will also start on Sept. 9. LEADERS & LISTENERS NEEDED! Please pray for the need we have for several willing persons to be leaders and listeners for our AWANA Sparks (K-2nd grades) and Cubbies (3-4 year olds) programs. OUR SYMPATHY Chuck Wittenberg s sister, Dora Bradford, went home to be with the Lord on August 8 in Bakersfield. A graveside service was held on August 13 at Shafter Memorial Park. 3 MORE NEWS COMMUNITY BIBLE STUDY COFFEE Shafter s Community Bible Study invites all women to a Coffee on Tuesday, August 18 at 10 am. at Valley Bible Church, 350 Pine St. At the Coffee you will get information on this year s study of the books of Daniel (12 weeks) and Revelation (18 weeks) and have the opportunity to register. The study begins on August 25. There is also a program for children through pre-school age. For questions or to pre-register contact Nancy Wilson, or Veronica Garcia. PRAYER MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY Richland Band Director Ken Gross is leading a new prayer ministry, "Drop and Give Me Five," beginning August 24, 12:30-1:00 here at SMBC. The group will meet each Monday in the Parents Room off of the foyer and is focused on praying for our community, nation and churches. Participants are also encouraged to fast during the lunch hour as a way of worshipping the Lord during this time of prayer. HARTLAND FALL FESTIVAL Make plans now to attend the Hartland Fall Festival August 28-30, This is a one-of-a-kind event where individuals and families gather in the beauty of God s creation to enjoy amazing food, a wide variety of fun activities, spiritual renewal, and family time. Come for one day or the whole weekend. This event is designed to benefit Hartland Christian Camp. For more info go to or call toll free at AUCTION ITEMS FOR HARTLAND FALL FESTIVAL Last year our Women s Ministry provided and transported items to Hartland Fall Festival to raise money in their Silent Auction. We have decided this is a very worthwhile cause and would like to, again, help support the Silent Auction that is held during the Fall Festival held August If you would like to help, you can be a part of this by donating items: Baked Goods, Home -made jams, Embroidered tea towels, Nice things for the house, Giftware & etc. Basically unique fun, or needed items that a lady would like to buy. SCRIPTURE READERS NEEDED If you would like to be a Scripture Reader for the Sunday Worship Service once every few months please write Scripture Reader on a blue card and place in offering bag and the church office will contact you. 5TH QUARTER High School 5th Quarters for the season are scheduled for Aug. 28, Sept. 11, Sept. 26, Oct. 5 & Nov. 6 in the Fellowship Center. All High School students are welcome to attend this fun time after the football games from 10:00 p.m.-midnight and includes all-youcan-eat pizza, soda and some great activities. ID is required and cost is $5. Adults are needed to help with the 5th Quarters. Contact Pastor Brent if you would like to volunteer! CHOICE BOOKS LUNCHEON Thursday, September 17, 12:00 noon, at the Laurelglen Bible Church, Choice Books will again host a fundraising banquet. This year s luncheon will feature award winning authors/musicians Steve & Annie Chapman from Nashville, Tennessee. They will inspire and entertain you with their unique presentation about life, love, children, grandchildren, and in-laws, interspersed with music and humor. You will receive a copy of their book I Love You and I Like You. Please reserve your tickets from Erwin Bartel or the church office. They are free but are asking for donations to be made at the luncheon. CHILDREN S CHOIR will be singing with the adult choir on Sunday, September 13. In preparation for this event there will be a Wednesday evening practice on September 6:30pm in the children s choir room. Please mark this special practice date on your calendar so that all children can be there. Regular Children s Choir practices will start up again on September 13, meeting each Sunday 9:20am (before Sunday School) for all children grades K-6. 7 The Mennonite Brethren Foundation is personally inviting all Senior adults (55+) to join them for CELEBRATE 2015 in Kansas City, Missouri! This event will be held October 2-4, 2015 at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel At CELEBRATE 2015, senior adults from around the MB National family will gather together to celebrate and pursue God s story in their lives.
