Homecoming Sunday Celebrating 100 Years The count down has begun for the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church! Sunday, November 18, 2018 We only have 10 months to get ready for this big exciting celebration and there are several things we are in need of as we plan: We need pictures, from recent to as far back as you can find them: Of conferences, activities of members, weddings, baptisms, community involvement, etc. Sunday school, VBS and camp pictures Newspaper clippings Give them to Helena Born, Stan Loewen or church office We need volunteers to help with putting everything together for this event things like: Preparing mailings to be sent out Helping make and setting up displays Hosting some guests who may need lodging Helping in the kitchen with food preparation, serving and clean up. 4 Praise & Petitions January 14, 2018 Show me Your ways Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long (Psalm 25:4-5). Because You Prayed: Our weekly ministries got off to a good start this past week and the Lord blessed us with rain (Psalm 147:8)! Health Needs: Continue to pray for Alicia Beckett (lung transplant, thigh infection), Stacy Coyle (cancer treatments), Marjorie Siemens (neck fracture), Bill Cummings (hospice), Julie Scales (West Nile Virus rehab), Joe and Carol Hannah (dementia/stroke), Burt Webb (hospice), Doug Peters (hospice), John Wiebe (foot surgery), Gwen Nikkel (knee replacement) and Bob Wiebe (prostrate surgery) as they are cared for (Psalm 25:4-5). Church Life and Ministries: Lift up the Christian Education Board as they meet this week as well as Otto and Marjorie Ekk s ongoing work in Portugal through MB Mission (Psalm 147:13). Community, National and International Concerns: Remember the residents on the Southern California Coast who have lost friends and loved ones to the recent mud slides (II Corinthians 1:3-4). MB Mission: S & S in restricted regions of East Asia Pray for: Building good relationships with local churches More bible translators for minority language groups More workers from national church to help reach minority target group (II Timothy 3:16-17). WCMMC KICK-OFF The West Coast Mennonite Men s Chorus Kick-Off Dinner is coming up on Saturday, January 20, at Reedley MB Church in Reedley, Calif., with registration at 4:00 pm and Dinner at 5:00 pm. If you are a man who loves the Lord and loves to sing, consider joining this group of 150+ men singing praises to the Lord in several concerts held in March-May of Most of the rehearsals are held here at SMBC. Contact Randy Toews at for more info. AWANA CAN-CAN NIGHT We are asking all of our clubbers to bring smashed aluminum cans and plastic bottles with them to club on, January 31 (note the date change). All proceeds from these will go to our Adopt-a-Club. If you would like to help with this project, please bring your cans and bottles to the church either before the 31st, or on the night of the 31st. SUMMER INTERN OPPORTUNITY Are you a college student looking for a ministry opportunity here at home? Applications are now being accepted for SMBC s Summer Intern program. If you d like more information, please contact either Pastor Pat or Pastor Brent. Applications are due by March 30 for this summer s openings. BPC BENEFIT BANQUET The Bakersfield Pregnancy Center will hold their annual Benefit Banquet on Monday, January 29, 2017 at Olive Knolls Church in Bakersfield. This year s special guest speaker will be Dr. Kevin Leman. Learn about the big blessings God has in store for us! Testimonies from BPC clients will also be highlighted. Dinner is complimentary. Paul addresses those two issues in this part of his letter to Rome as he continues to explain the Gospel of Christ.
