Praise & Petitions March 4, 2018 In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly (Psalm 5:3). Because You Prayed: Shirley Caulfield s test results came back cancer free and one of our High School Youth received Christ at Hume Lake this past weekend (Psalm 5:3)! Health Needs: Continue to pray for Alicia Beckett (lung transplant, thigh infection), Stacy Coyle (cancer treatments), Julie Scales (West Nile Virus rehab), Joe and Carol Hannah (dementia/stroke), Doug Peters (hospice), Pastor Madou (cracked lumbar vertebrae), Shirley Caulfield (liver and gall bladder surgery) and Judy Neufeld (knee replacement) as they are cared for (Psalm 5:11). Church Life and Ministries: Lift up the Council as they meet this week and the Men s Fellowship Breakfast next Saturday. Also remember the Bloemhof family with the recent loss of Karla s mother, Ingrid Renken (Proverbs 27:17). Community, National and International Concerns: Remember our state and the ongoing need for rain and snow as well as wisdom for state officials who manage the water systems (Psalm 147:8-9). 3 INDOOR CHURCH PICNIC TODAY Plan on joining us Today for an indoor picnic in the Church Dining Room at 12 noon right after the morning Worship Service. Bring your own lunch and come enjoy a fun time of fellowship. If you didn't bring your lunch feel free to go pick something up and bring it. Table service and beverages will be provided. The gym will also be open for all ages to play. Hope to see you there! SMBC MEN S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST in next Saturday, March 10. Come for a great breakfast and time of fellowship at 7:00 am in the Fellowship Center. All men of all ages are welcome to come! VERENIKA MAKING FOR MCC SALE The West Coast Mennonite Relief Sale is coming soon (April 6 & 7)! Our Verenika Making is taking place at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church on Saturday, March 17. We will begin the fun at 8:00 a.m., and we will provide lunch around 12:00 p.m. We could use your help! We also are looking for a few good people that would like to donate some time to grilling some tri tip on either Friday night or Saturday of the sale. Contact Rosalyn Malamma at if you would like to volunteer or have questions. SAVE THE DATE! The West Coast Mennonite Men s Chorus is coming to a city near you. You will enjoy the musical expression of faith and harmony from the 120-voice Mennonite Men s Chorus. A free-will offering will be taken. This year, the chorus will be singing their 4 California concerts: March 18 at 6 pm Laurelglen Bible Church, Bakersfield April 7 at 7 pm Riverpark Bible Church, Fresno April 8 at 6 pm Reedley MB Church, Reedley April 22 at 6 pm Grace Bible Church, Arroyo Grande DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN The Distinguished Young Women of Shafter Showcase will be held on Friday, March 16 at 7:00pm in the Starrh Performing Arts Center at Shafter High. There are 11 girls participating this year. They are Alizabeth Lopez, Karly Cleveland, Kekoa Witcher, Eva Lopez, Emma Miller, Jasmine Ortiz, Victoria Darling, Alyssa Perez, Ayadalin Martinez, Alexis Pickering, and Abigail Eggleston. Elizabeth Wilson, our current DYW, the Has Beens and the escorts will also be a part of the program. THANK YOU Dear Church Family, We cannot thank you enough for the many prayers for Shirley as she underwent surgery recently to remove a cancerous growth on her liver. We know it was because of your prayers that the cancer is completely gone and there is no need for further treatment. The peace that we have felt during this time is extraordinary and again we know it was a result of your prayers. We are so thankful to the Lord for all of you, our loving church family! WITH SYMPATHY Karla Bloemhof s mother, Ingrid Renken, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 25, following a long illness. Services were held for her on March 1 at St. John s Catholic Church in Wasco followed by a graveside service at Shafter Memorial Park. Please keep Karla s father Wolfgang, and the family in your prayers in their time of loss. 5 MESSAGE NOTES Homecoming Sunday Celebrating 100 Years The count down CONTINUES for the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church! Sunday, November 18, 2018 The committee working on this event has been diligently meeting and plans are coming together nicely. It will be a full day of celebrating with a morning worship service, a meal together, and an evening event with videos, stories, pictures, a full timeline on a wall in the gym, and many more things that are not as yet finalized. There are things we still need more of: PICTURES: from recent to as far back as you can find them - of conferences, activities, weddings, baptisms, community involvement, Sunday school, VBS and camp pictures Also Newspaper clippings Give them all to Helena Born, Stan Loewen or church office We need volunteers to help with putting everything together for this event Lots of fun things to be a part of...so come on board to make this happen.
