GARAGE SALE Saturday, November 3 is the date for our annual Women s Ministries Garage Sale! It s not too early to start cleaning out your garage, cupboards, closets and don t forget to check under your bed for items to donate to the sale. This is the only fundraiser that Women's Ministries puts on and the monies made from the sale help us put on our events during the year, support our missionaries, and help others in our community. 3 Pastor Pat Coyle September 9, 2018 Believe: Glory Revealed (John 2:1-12) Road signs are placed where they are to reveal what lies ahead. In a similar way, John describes the first of several signs that Jesus performed to reveal who He was and what lay ahead. Glory revealed: Involves ordinary people and settings (vv. 1-3) Demonstrates God s extraordinary power (vv. 4-10) Leads people to believe (vv ) Because We Believe: WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEALS ARE BACK! Hooray! Night Meals will be served every night that we have Awana. Meals will be served at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Center. Everyone is invited to come enjoy a great meal and great fellowship. Cost is $4 per adult, 8th grade and under free, children unaccompanied by an adult is 50 each, and the maximum for a family is $12. AWANA began last week and is off to a great start! For children 3 years thru 6th grade Awana meets s at 6:25 pm. This week is Freezin Fingers Night. We are looking forward to another exciting year so be sure to invite your friends! WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRAYER Come and join Pastor Pat in the Fireside Room every from 6:15-6:45 pm for a time of prayer for our church family and community. JUNIOR HIGH HILIFE KICK-OFF All 7th & 8th graders are invited to Night HiLife each at 6:30 pm in the basement. Bring your friends! CHOIR REHEARSALS BEGIN Like to sing? Always wanted to join our amazing church choir? Well, here is your chance! Come to Choir Rehearsals on evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary. We ll find a spot for you! See Choir Director Cheryl Toews for rehearsal schedule. MEN S PRAYER WITH PASTOR PAT All men are invited to a time of prayer in Pastor Pat s office each Tuesday morning at 6:00 am. A fresh pot of coffee will be waiting for you! MEN S BIBLE STUDY meets every Thursday at 7:00 am at Tony s Firehouse in Shafter. All men are invited. Facilitator is Paul Neufeld. HIGH SCHOOL 5TH QUARTER This year s 5th Quarters at SMBC will be held in the church gym on the following Friday nights at 10 pm after the Shafter High School football games: Sept. 7, Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19. There are a lot of high school kids that come to this event so we need a lot of help. If you are interested in helping please see Pastor Brent. Taught by Virgil Reimer The question often comes up, what do I do, now that I am a Christian? Peter answers that question regarding hope, grace, and personal struggles. Peter himself struggles with balancing passion and obedience. Come and listen to Peter tell us how we can be successful. WELCOME HOME: Becoming a Welcoming Church (6 DVD Sessions) Started August 19 in Room B3 Taught by Alan and Robin Butterfield Open to Everyone! Sometimes we need to ask ourselves how we re doing at welcoming others into our church. We ALL need a refresher course in this very important component of church life. This study will help show us HOW TO clearly communicate WE RE SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE! Study of the Book of JOSHUA Taught by Joe Moesta Starts September 9 in the Fireside Room Beacons Plus Class (Open to anyone) We will be looking at the strengths, weaknesses, successes, and failures of some of the individuals featured in this book. Methods of using technology have changed over the centuries, but the basic nature of people has not changed. COLLEGE STUDENTS ADDRESSES So that we can keep in touch with our college students, both far and near, we would like to publish a list of all of the students in the October SMBC Newsletter. If you are a college student or a parent of one, please send contact information, including the name of the college/university attending, address, and/or phone number to the church office by September 16. Send it to smbc@shaftermb.org or write it on a blue Welcome card on Sunday morning. JESUS, JEHAD AND PEACE Would you like to understand more about Islam and how to share your faith with Muslims? Heritage Bible Church is hosting a seminar to equip you to do this on Saturday, September 22, from 10 am - 1 pm. Cost is only $5 (light lunch included). Reservation required by Wed., Sept. 19. NEED FOR THE PHILIPPINES Craig and Debbe Haley will be going to the Philippines at the end of October and would like to take a bunch of hotel toiletries to the people they will be ministering to. We are now collecting hotel soaps and shampoos so please start saving them and place them in the receptacle in the foyer marked Shampoo and Soap for the Philippines, or bring to the church office. MENNONITE RELIEF SALE NEWS The board for the West Coast Mennonite Relief Sale has a couple of important announcements! There will be a permanent change in the dates of the sale starting in 2019 to the second full weekend of April. So mark your calendars for the sale on April 12 and 13, 2019! Also, the West Coast Mennonite Relief Sale Annual Meeting will take place on Sunday September 9 at 4 pm in the Reedley MB Church.. A light dinner will be served at no charge. All are encouraged to attend as there will be elections of officers and the opportunity to discuss various aspects of the West Coast Mennonite Relief Sale. Because You Prayed: All of our Night ministries got off to a good start, our first 5 th Quarter was a great outreach, Mary Lou Gonzalez has completed her cancer treatments and doing well, Camilla Tarry s bladder cancer surgery was successful and Julie Scales is making good progress (John 2:11)! Health Needs: Continue to pray for Julie Scales (severe stroke), Jazmin Hall (cancer treatments), Doris Unruh (fractured pelvis), Ruth Ratzlaff (hip infection), Arly Feil (back surgery rehab), Camilla Tarry (bladder cancer surgery), Stacy Coyle (cancer treatments), Alicia Beckett (lung transplant, thigh infection), and Vernell Migdat (hospice care) as they are cared for. Also remember Jeremy Jones having a heart procedure on Thursday (Psalm 62:1-2). Followed by a Pie Social with time to visit with friends and former members, hosted by the Youth Group Late afternoon will feature a second showing of the Documentary Video.
