4 Sermon Notes July 15, 2018 Heaven Bound Hebrews 4:1-11 Key Text: Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves (2 Cor. 13:5) Key Thought: Those with a dead faith will not enter Heaven s rest, but only those with a living faith will enter. 1) Intro & Context 2) The goal of ETERNAL rest (vv. 1,6,9-11) (cf. Mt. 19:16; 2 Cor. 5:1-2; Php. 3:20) 3) Falling short of the goal (v. 1) a. The danger of a lack of faith (v. 2) (cf. Prayer Gatherings Each Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. there is a prayer gathering held at Elim. Also, there is a Wednesday morning prayer group meeting in Pastor s office at 7:00 a.m. You are encouraged to come and pray with the team members and share your requests/praises. Prayer Chain The prayer network is used when special needs arise during the week. Call Sandy at the church Monday thru Thursday 8:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. otherwise call or text Tasha Munger at (309) with your request. If no answer, you may leave your concern on the answering machine and it will be relayed ASAP. 6 CONGREGATIONAL MEETING, SUNDAY, JULY 22 WHAT S UP! Pastor Steve will be on vacation July We will welcome Pastor Bernie Windmiller July 22 and 29 in his place. ********* The new church directory is ready for you to pick up at the table in the gathering area. The directory is also available in pdf format. If you would like a copy, send Sandy an and she will send you one. As always, when you have changes to your address, phone numbers, and , please get that information to Sandy so we can keep our records updated. The pictorial directory is still in the making. There is still time to get your picture in if you haven t already done so. ********* Help!?! The cleaning sign-up sheet has turned over a new page and is needing volunteers to help clean the church. The church is divided up into sections so that all the work doesn t fall on one person. Can you spare about an hour a week for a month? Your help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ********* Save Your Quarters! On Saturday, July 21, Juanita Arellanos and her laundromat ministry team will be going to local laundromats to bless people by paying for their laundry. They are collecting quarters and there is a piggy bank available in the gathering area to collect them. Thank you!

7 BIRTHDAY PARTY!! Iris Jensen will be turning 95 in December, but her children and grandchildren want to celebrate her birthday now and are holding an open house for her at the Dubuque Arboretum, on the Gene Heineman Screened Porch (Adjacent to the Gift Shop), Saturday, July 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gift of your presence is the only gift necessary, however, if you would like to shower Iris with cards, she will enjoy reading them. Light appetizers, cake and punch will be served. If you are unable to attend, send her a card: Iris Jensen, c/o Paul Jensen, 1020 Richards Road, Dubuque, IA FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES The Prayer Team will be showing the movie, The War Room on Friday night, July 27, at 6:00 p.m. The three P s will be provided (pizza, popcorn, and pop). There s a sign-up sheet in the gathering area. Be sure to invite your friends. S.P.L.A.S.H. Ladies just a reminder S.P.L.A.S.H. is on Saturday, July 28 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. All women are invited. Please join us!! CHURCH INSIDE YARD SALE Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4. In addition to the yard sale, we will also have a bake sale. There are sign-up sheets in the gathering area to volunteer and to donate baked goods. Proceeds go for future mission trips! Thank you for your support!
