Pastor Pat March 25, 2018 A Victory Parade (John 12:12-19) Everyone loves a parade, especially when it reminds them of some kind of victory! Whether it s a patriotic theme or our favorite sports team, being on the winning side is something to celebrate. Palm Sunday represents the ultimate victory parade of God s plan of salvation. Jesus victory parade reminds us of: Humanity s desire for a hero (vv ) His status as the eternal ruler (vv ) The ultimate rule of God s kingdom (vv ) Joining the Parade:

3 Praise & Petitions March 25, 2018 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel! (John 12:13). Because You Prayed: The Mennonite Men s Chorus concert at Laurelglen Bible Church was a wonderful time of worship and both Patrick Mason and Krista Hooper are recovering well from flu-related pneumonia (John 12:13)! Health Needs: Continue to pray for Alicia Beckett (lung transplant, thigh infection), Stacy Coyle (cancer treatments), Julie Scales (West Nile Virus rehab), Joe and Carol Hannah (dementia/stroke), Doug Peters (hospice), Pastor Madou (cracked lumbar vertebrae), Judy Neufeld (knee replacement rehab) and Adele Young (ankle surgery rehab) as they are cared for. Also remember Ron Melendrez having a procedure done on his esophagus tomorrow at USC (Psalm 9:1-2). Church Life and Ministries: Lift up the Deacon Board as they meet this week and Pastor Pat as he s on his annual Planning Retreat later today through (Proverbs 16:3, 9). Community, National and International Concerns: Remember our nation with the many Easter Week services and activities lifting up our resurrected Savior (Matthew 28:5-7). MB Mission: OASIS Team (Restricted) Pray for: Favor with authorities for live radio broadcasts in Arabicspeaking regions Evangelism and ongoing discipleship of global Arabicspeaking faith communities The new immigrant welcome center in Canada (I Timothy 2:1-4). MEN S CHORUS CONCERT The West Coast Mennonite Men s Chorus is coming to a city near you. You will enjoy the musical expression of faith and harmony from the 120-voice Mennonite Men s Chorus. Free admission! A free-will offering will be taken to support Mennonite Disaster Service s California fire relief efforts. FOUR WEEKS OF PRAYER Thank you for your response for concentrated prayer for our church. For you that would like to come and pray for our church when others are here, these are the times: Mon. 10AM, 4:30PM; Tues. 4:30PM; Wed. 10:30AM, 11AM, 1:30PM, 6PM; FRI. 8AM, 9:30AM. Of course you are welcome to come and pray anytime between 9AM and 5PM through Thursday, Friday until 4PM and until 8PM. Questions, call Nancy Wilson, THE MENNONITE DISASTER SERVICE California Unit Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10 am - 2 pm at Shafter MB Church Fellowship Center. Coffee/ registration is from 9:30-10 am and a pit-style beef lunch will be served. The West Coast Mennonite Men s Choir will give a mini concert. Come hear updates on MDS s California Wildfire response, Hurricane response in Puerto Rico, Texas & Florida, and the Saipan Project. 4 DISCOVERING SMBC Would you like to learn more about SMBC? Are you considering baptism and church membership? Then this class is for you! Discovering SMBC is a 5 week class that will begin on Sunday, April 8 during the Sunday School hour. If you are interested in attending the class please write DSMBC on your blue Welcome card or call the church office. SUMMER INTERN OPPORTUNITY Are you a college student looking for a ministry opportunity here at home? Applications are now being accepted for SMBC s Summer Intern program. If you d like more information, please contact either Pastor Pat or Pastor Brent. Applications are due by March 30 for this summer s openings. SMBC BACKPACK TRIP The Annual Backpack Trip with Pastor Pat has been set for Friday-Sunday, August 10-12, This is an easy to moderate hike in the Kaiser Wilderness above Fresno and is open to men, women and children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited so reserve your spot with a $5 non-refundable deposit to the church office by July 1. Roger and LeeIla Riley are excited to announce the birth of a new grandson, Paxton Giuseppe Marotta, born to Vince and Katelyn (Riley) Marotta on March 20 in Visalia, CA. Weighing 7 lbs., 3 oz. and at 19 1/2 in. long he joins proud big sisters Baylee (2) and Brooklyn (19 mos.). Congratulations to the happy family! USMB NATIONAL CONVENTION July 24-28, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah Our theme is: Celebrating our Diversity and Unity "You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." 1 Cor. 12:27. Join together with Mennonite Brethren from across the United States as we gather this summer to celebrate our diversity and the mission that unites us. Winnie Bartel will be one of the featured speakers! Come for a fun evening of PEPPERNUT MAKING & PIZZA EATING, April 2 at 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Center We will be making Peppernuts for the upcoming MCC Relief Sale (April 6 & 7). 6 FRIDAY, APRIL 6 - SATURDAY, APRIL 7, 2018 THE MCC RELIEF SALE & AUCTION is coming up April 6 & 7 at Fresno Pacific University. Come enjoy two fun-filled days packed with all kinds of fun events, delicious Mennonite food and opportunities to buy homemade items, with all proceeds to benefit Mennonite Central Committee, which provides relief, development and peace in the name of Christ. Plan on bringing the whole family! Flyers are available in the foyer or go to Volunteers Needed to Make Zwieback at the MCC Relief Sale The West Coast Mennonite Relief Sale is the only Relief Sale in the US and Canada that produces zwieback from start to finish on site. This endeavor requires many people in the production process, and if we are to continue this tradition of selling fresh zwieback we need your help. These are the roles that need filling: measuring ingredients, mixing dough, pinching the dough into zwieback, baking, bagging, and selling them. If you are between the ages of 8 and 80+ and could give 2 hours of your time on April 6 or 7, call, text, or Pat Unruh at or pat.a.unruh@gmail.com. If you don t picture yourself helping in the booth, we also need financial sponsors to underwrite production expenses.
