WANTED! Adults and Teens (going into 7th grade and up) who would like to work with young children during this year's VBS. We need someone (or two) who would be willing to spend three hours each morning working with our pre-schoolers and another one (or two) who would be willing to help out in the nursery. We want to be able to continue to provide this for our workers with small children. There are also openings in other areas if you want to join us have fun with Wierd Animals! VBS will be the week of June 16th through the 20th! Please contact Cheryl at if you have questions or would like to help! EASTER DEVOTIONAL GUIDE The Hope of Easter devotional guides from RBC Ministries are available to you in the foyer. CHILD DEDICATION We will be having Child Dedication on Sunday, April 27, during the morning Worship Service. If you would like to have your child/children dedicated on that Sunday please contact the church office by April 22. PRAYING FOR SMBC BOOKMARKS are available in the foyer if you would like to take one as a guide to your prayer time for our church family. GRADUATES If you or your child will be graduating from college or university this spring or summer please send graduation information to the church office by April 21. THE NKCS BBQ/AUCTION/CARNIVAL is coming up on Saturday, May 3! Tickets are on sale now by calling the school at We encourage you all to come to North Kern Christian School for a great deep pit BBQ dinner and for a chance to see a little of what God is doing in the ministry of NKCS. NURSERY HELP NEEDED! Minerva Salinas, our hired Nursery worker, is out on maternity leave through April. In her absence, we will need an additional adult helper each Sunday in April during the Sunday School hour and Worship Service. If you are not already on the schedule for April and would like to spend a morning playing with babies and toddlers, please consider serving our church in this way! Contact Toni Frantz to sign up for a morning. Thank you! CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS are available for Hartland Christian Camp Summer Camps. Application forms are available from the church office. COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS If you are a member of a Mennonite church on the West Coast and attend a college or graduate school in Arizona, California, Oregon or Washington, you could be eligible to receive a scholarship from Mennonite Insurance Services of Reedley, California. You must be at least a college junior and have a cumulative gpa of at least 3.0. Application deadline is July 1, 2014 for the fall 2014 semester. 4 MORE NEWS Wasco Relay for Life is coming up April at the Wasco High School football field. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Anyone can join the team ($10 registration fee) and be part of the relay which begins at 8:30 am on Saturday, April 26 and ends at 8:30 am on Sunday, April 27. Luminaries can be purchased from our Relay for Life team members for $10 each in honor or memory of a cancer patient. For more information or to join the team contact Rick Penner at MDS Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting of the California Unit of Mennonite Disaster Service will be held on Saturday May 3, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Laurelglen Church in Bakersfield, CA. All are welcome and a complimentary lunch will be served. The meeting will highlight a presentation by Harold Miller, a MDS Project Director who has led more than 30 projects over more than a 10 year period including several in Alaska. The focus of Harold's presentation will be "what is it like to volunteer on an MDS project", with special emphasis on volunteering on the 2 upcoming projects in Circle and Alakanuk, AK this summer. Because You Prayed: Jeff Rogers will be our Children s Ministries Intern this summer, Pastor Pat s Planning Retreat went well and the High School Mission Trip training got off to a good start (Acts 1:8)! Health Needs: Continue to pray for Robert Wohl (aorta surgery, rehab), Neal Wood (severe anxiety issues) and Isaiah Grooman (MRSA infection) as they are cared for. Also remember Wendell Cummins (Julie Scales brother) hospitalized with severe back pain and an enlarged spleen (Psalm 146:5-6). Church Life and Ministries: Remember the Adult Choir and Bell Choir as they both prepare to lead us in worship on Easter Sunday (Matthew 28:6). Community, National and International Concerns: Lift up the church in our nation this week as believers gather for worship to celebrate the resurrection of Christ (I Corinthians 15:3-5).
