Jesus recognizes the generosity and sacrifice involved in the little contribution of the widow to the Temple funds and praises her. The letter to the Hebrews memorializes the supreme act of generosity of Christ for our sake. Reflect: Absolutely nothing escapes the attention of God, as evidenced in Jesus noticing the widows contribution and the act of the widow of Zarepath. This can be good news and bad news! It is good news that none of our little and generous acts go unnoticed by God who would reward us in plenty. The bad news is that none of our little or big sins escapes the attention of God either. 3 FAZtor s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora It s our Commitment Sunday our Stewardship Renewal weekend! Now in its third year! This is the time of the year when we prayerfully renew our commitments of time, talent and treasure as we take a few minutes to fill out our commitment card. This is also a good way to be reminded of how God has blessed us with those gifts of time, talent and treasure and that everything we have is a gift from God and everything belongs to God. We started this Stewardship Way of Life in our parish three years ago with the assistance of the Catholic Stewardship Consultancy, a firm based in Georgia that was also endorsed by our Archdiocese. After learning how it is done, and considering the considerable amount we were paying to the consultancy, we decided to do it now on our own with the help of the Archdiocese Stewardship Office through its director, Florian Romero, who is also a registered parishioner at Holy Name. Our Stewardship Council members, led by Bruce McKie, have been doubling their efforts with the assistance of our parish staff to have another successful or even better result for our Stewardship Renewal. I thank them as I thank you for your support. This coming Saturday will be the Funeral Mass for our longtime parishioner, Isabel Dominguez, who has shown us the best example of how to live a Stewardship Way of Life. Even when she was already confined to her sickbed for years, she was still practicing Stewardship continuously sharing her time, talent and treasure to the church. She was the Mommy of the community as she treated each one, especially the priests, as her own children. You simply want to call her mommy because she was a mother you would like to have. She was indeed, a good and faithful servant. I am sure our Heavenly Father is now welcoming her and saying, Well done, good and faithful steward, you have been faithful in many things, now come and share your master s joy! Let us not forget to honor and give thanks to the stewards of peace for our country, our dear military Veterans as we celebrate Veteran s Day this Monday. Don t get confused with Memorial Day celebrated in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service. One teacher was asking her 8 - year old students what were they thankful for to the veterans. Easily they came with good answers: protecting our country, saving people s lives, keeping peace in our land, etc. But one boy s response was: I thank them for giving us a long weekend. Most people like and enjoy a long weekend. But people do not like a long day. So, enjoy your long weekend and I wish you quiet moments and restful hours when the day is long. Does that sound morbid? It needn t be. Recalling the life of a beloved family member, longtime friend, or trusted mentor can be consoling, especially if that person has led a rich and full life The most important thing we can do for someone grieving a loss may be to be physically present and simply listen to them. In general, you needn t worry too much about saying the right or wrong thing. Just try to consider the situation, speak from the heart, and do your best. And don t forget to pray that God will console them in their sorrow. -Fr. James Martin, SJ Annual Memorial Mass for Deceased Parishioners We thank Valerie Toy and members of Holy Name of Jesus Grief and Consolation Committee, for successfully hosting this meaningful gathering here in our parish last Saturday, November 3 rd. We also extend a heartfelt gratitude to Letty Palpallatoc and Holy Name Ladies Aid Society for their donations of a beautiful gong that we used at Mass, and sponsoring in part the reception for the bereaved families. We are grateful to all the families who made time to be with us, to celebrate the life of their departed loved ones. We continue to pray for their eternal rest in God s peace. Pray for Church Vocations Let us promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations. Please ask our Lord for more dedicated and holy priests and deacons, and consecrated women and men. May they be inspired by Jesus Christ, supported by our faith community. May many young adult men and women respond generously to God s gift of vocation. We pray in a special way for all the seminarians in our Archdiocese, the permanent deacons and their wives in initial and on-going formation, and for an increase of membership for the Canossian Sisters and Lay Associates. Let us pray the Lord of the Harvest to send many laborers in His vineyard. Thank you. Building Bridges of Hope is the main theme of this year s Santa Clara Faith Formation Conference. It will be held on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. For more than a century, St. Patrick s Seminary & University in Menlo Park has been dedicated to the ministry of priestly formation, preparing seminarians for ordination and supporting the continued growth of priests already ordained. Well prepared priests are needed more than ever this time. To sustain their vitally important work, they rely on the generosity of our benefactors and of the parishioners whom our seminarians will one day serve as priests. CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT WORKING ON THE MARGINS Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 43 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. Masses are at 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM in the Church. HOLY NAME TREE OF LIFE The Holy Name Tree of Life is a bronze tree trunk with approximately 400 leaves. It is located at the back of the church. Donations to the Tree of Life go towards a much needed Capital Improvement Fund. Each leaf costs $500 with a $25 engraving charge. We suggest a maximum number of characters to 5 lines, up to 25 characters per line including spaces.
