3 WELCOME TO HOLY NAME OF JESUS PARISH, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA Page 4 CANOSSIAN CORNER Magdalen of Canossa felt the urge to consecrate herself to God ever since she was a child. At the age of 17, she joined the Carmelite Order in Verona, Italy where she could live a life of prayer, contemplation and penance. However, after eight months in the Convent, she gradually realized that the Carmelite cloister life was not meant for her. It seemed that God had other plans instead. So she left and returned to the Canossa Palace. She continued to pray fervently, trying to discern God s call for her in meditation and through the daily events. THANK YOU FROM THE HOMEBOUND MINISTRY Sister Connie and the Homebound Mass Committee wish to thank all those volunteers who helped at the Homebound Mass & Reception on Saturday, September 8, The volunteers included Tony Eiras, his music and choir, Lay Canossians, drivers, servers, helpers, decorators and those who donated food and money. Our thanks to Jackie and Colleen for their administrative help. Thanks to Fr. Ngoan who celebrated the Mass. You are all very much appreciated. PRIESTS RETIREMENT FUND We are blessed to have 78 retired priests in our Archdiocese! Because priests do not earn high salaries while working, they receive only a small Social security check each month in retirement to supplement their pensions. The Priests Retirement Fund helps pay their expenses. The Priests Retirement Fund faces unprecedented challenges priests are living longer and this means drawing from the Priests Retirement Fund for a longer period of time. Additionally, a large number of priests in the Archdiocese are nearing retirement age and this will place an even greater burden on the Fund. Your increased support will help meet these growing needs. Please consider a gift to the Priests Retirement Fund next weekend. Your support is critical. Brochures for the collection are at the end of the pews, please pick up one and bring it back next weekend with your donation enclosed. Thank You. VOCATIONS AWARENESS CORNER with Sr. Stella Is it Christ calling you to embrace the world in love? Are you a courageous person? God may be calling you to serve Him and to give your life to Him. Be willing to seek, be willing to pray, be willing to know Christ Read from the Scripture: Matthew Luke CATECHETICAL SUNDAY 2007 THEME: ENCOUNTERING THE LIVING CHRIST In the United Sates, more than half a million catechists serve in the nation s parishes, missions, and schools. The dedication and commitment of these catechists is something that deserves to be celebrated. The annual celebration of Catechetical Sunday is an occasion for recognizing, affirming, and supporting their efforts through a formal rite of commissioning. In like manner, all Catholics, especially parents, are called to renew their commitment to hand on the faith and to serve as witnesses of the Good News in ways that are more informal but just as important. This year s Catechetical Sunday theme is Encountering the Living Christ. Fr. D Angelo, Fr. Angel, Sr. Stella, Sr. Connie and the Pastoral Staff and parishioners of Holy Name are sincerely grateful to our volunteer catechists, who responded generously to this call to discipleship. Registering in the Fall applies to the full school year. The fall payment is due with the registration form. Parents will be billed in December for the spring payment.
