WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. LEAVING MASS EARLY? If an emergency arises and you need to leave Mass before the Concluding Hymn has finished, we ask that you exit through the narthex and not through the side entrance underneath the organ. Exciting through the side doors creates a distraction for the ministers on the altar, the choir and musicians, and those seated nearby who are still participating in the Mass. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. SCOUTS POPCORN SALE Cub Scout Pack 461, Boy Scout Troop 461, and Venturing Crew 461 will be selling popcorn in the Gathering Space of church after all Masses next weekend, September 30/ October 1. You can also donate popcorn to the men and women serving our country as Popcorn for Our Troops. Each sale benefits our scouting units. BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP FOR PARENTS Parents are invited to join in a discussion group on the book The Rhythm of Life by Matthew Kelly. This book will help you to bring into focus who you are and why you are here. It will help you discover your legitimate needs, deepest desires, and unique talents. The group will meet once a month, on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, in Caulfield Hall and read one section each month. Come every month or whenever you can. The first meeting date will be Tuesday, October 3. to register, contact Sally Daniel at or sally.daniel@stjanedechantal.org. Books can be purchased at Dynamic Catholic or on Amazon. SODALITY LASAGNA DINNER The Sodality invites its members and all interested women of the parish to attend the first General Sodality meeting of the year and annual lasagna dinner on Wednesday, October 4. The evening will begin with Mass at 7:00 pm, and continue with the dinner and business meeting in Caulfield Hall. Come and see what Sodality is all about we welcome new members! There is no charge for the dinner, but RSVP by Sunday, October 1 to Karen Salah (karensalah@comcast.net) or Helen Bollwerk (bollwerk@rcn.com) so we can plan for our catering. BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS To honor the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, Fr. Burney will hold a Blessing of Animals ceremony on Saturday, October 7, at 12:00 noon in the yard between the church and the school. Owners are asked to bring their domestic pets on a leash or housed in a crate. CALLING ALL VENDORS The St. Jane de Chantal Home and School Association is busy planning the 2017 Christmas Bazaar, to be held Saturday, November 11, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, in Christopher Hall. They are looking for a few more vendors to sell their fabulous wares. If you or someone you know is interested in participating, decbazaar@gmail.com. HIGH SCHOOL SMASH The next High School SMASH (Sunday Mass and Social Hour) will be held Sunday, October 1 after the 5:00 pm Mass. They will meet at the Seton Center from 6:00-8:00 pm for dinner, games, and socializing. The theme will be Glow in the Dark Fiesta. Lectors, ushers, and offertory gift bearers are needed for Mass. All high school students, no matter what school you attend, are invited. Pre -Kindergarten (FOOT: ages 3 and 4) and Kindergarten meet on Sunday mornings during the 10:00 am Mass; grades 1 8 meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 7:15 pm; high school Youth Ministry meets Sunday nights from 6:00 8:00 pm three Sunday s a month. WELCOME BACK MASS Students and faculty finished their second week of school with a school Mass to mark the official start of the new school year. The school sang beautifully, as the students sat together by class to pray for a successful and fun school year. Father Keith Burney discussed this year's school theme, encouraging all to support each other and to be followers of Christ. SUMMER MATH AWARDS All students participated in a summer math challenge to master as many skills as possible through an online math program called IXL. Many students achieved high scores, but the top three students awarded for mastering the most TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME math skills during the summer break were Brianna Ajmani, Camden Ray- Crawford, and Mary Celeste. FIELD TRIP ON THE CHESAPEAKE The fifth grade class went to Chestertown, MD to board the schooner Sultana, a replica of an 18th century British vessel charged with taxing the colonies. The trip linked the history and science curriculum that the students will be learning this year. GENERAL MILLS BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Send in your General Mills Box Tops for Education and help fund the Physical Education Program. We received two checks from General Mills last year totaling $1600. This money is being used to put an outdoor water fountain on the field side of the school. A special thanks to the Cresswell Family for spearheading this program.
