WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish: Carol Macpeak If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. SECURITY ON OUR PARISH CAMPUS We remind parishioners and visitors to keep a watchful eye on your surroundings while on our parish campus. This is especially important this time of year as daylight hours shorten. Remember to lock car doors, and remove personal belongings and valuables from plain view in your car; take them with you or store them in your trunk. We also ask you to report any unusual or suspicious activity immediately to a priest or member of staff. NO 11 AM MASS 12/26-12/29 While our parish school is on holiday, there will be no 11:00 am weekday Mass from Tuesday, December 26 through Friday, December 29. The regular weekday Mass schedule of 8:00 am and 11:00 am will resume Tuesday, January 2. MASS OF LIFE AND ROSARY PROCESSION On December 10, our parish welcomed Bishop Roy Campbell, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, to celebrate Mass and lead a Rosary procession to the recently-opened late-term abortion clinic at the Wildwood Medical Building. 137 parishioners from St. Jane participated in the procession, who then joined in prayer and song with others near the clinic. Thanks to all the participants, this was the largest Rosary procession sponsored by the archdiocese. REMEMBER IN PRAYER... those who are sick, and all those in our nursing homes and hospitals, especially Nancy Breslin, Pat Krisko, Elton Smith, Suzanne Kulikowski, James Besche, Susan Tise, Lucy Kirby, Donald Dominick, Lillian Liang, Isabella Moya, and Harper Dexter. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN MUSIC MINISTRY We have several openings for volunteer singers in our Parish Choir and Cantor Guild. Our Parish Choir is accepting new Soprano, Tenor, and Bass volunteer singers. While the ability to read music is not essential, prior choral singing experience is helpful. Our Parish Choir is often credited for their impressive ministry and we welcome your participation! The Cantor Guild consists of our parish cantors. We have openings for cantors at all Masses. OPEN HOUSE Plan to attend the Annual Catholic Schools Week Open House on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Visiting St. Jane de Chantal School during an Open House is the best way to discover what makes our vibrant school community a "Best of Bethesda" school for the third year in a row. All classrooms Pre-K to Grade 8 will be open to visitors, and you will have the opportunity to meet teachers, and learn about our academic curriculum and extra-curricular programs in fine arts, science, and athletics. Application materials for the school year will be available. Application deadline is March 1, MOVEMBER NOVEMBER During the month of November, our male teachers, Mr. Molloy, Mr. MacInnes, and Mr. Dugan, grew out their mustaches and beards to raise money for testicular cancer through the popular Movember Foundation. At the end of the month, students paid money to place votes for their favorite mustache or beard. Mr. MacInnes was the winner! All of the money raised was donated to the Movember Foundation. Thank you, male teachers, for bringing this excellent and entertaining giving project to our school! HOLIDAY BAND CONCERT Once again, the beginner and advanced bands wowed parents, faculty and students, with the winter band concert last week. The beginner band is comprised of students brand new to playing an instrument in the fourth grade. Holiday favorites such as Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nicholas were performed, as well as more traditional pieces such as the French carol, Il est né, le divin Enfant, and Good King Wenceslas.

4 DECEMBER 24, 2017 HOUR OF CODE Recently, our school once again participated in the hour of code sponsored by Code.org. This is a nationwide event intended to encourage children of all ages to get interested in computer science. Although this was done in computer class, interest can continue and is available for all children by logging into MIDDLE SCHOOL VISITS TOMB OF CHRIST Recently, the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students visited the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C., to see the exhibit, Tomb of Christ. Students were virtually transported to Jerusalem to discover the fascinating history of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in an immersive 3-D experience. They were also able to visit the other active exhibits, including an exhibit about Jane Goodall and photos of animals in the wild. The opening Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 pm in the Great Upper Church. Following Mass, there will be the national Rosary for Life, confessions, holy hours and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the night until the closing Mass at 7:30 am Friday morning. The archdiocesan Office of Permanent Diaconate Formation will begin a new cycle of recruitment and preparation of men for the diaconate. The initial selection process for the next aspirancy class will be preceded with six opportunities to Come and See about the permanent diaconate. MEN S DISCERNMENT RETREAT Cardinal Donald Wuerl invites men in their 20 s 40 s who are considering a call to the priesthood to attend a discernment retreat led by priests of the Archdiocese of Washington at Saint John Paul II Seminary, Friday-Sunday, February 2 through February 4, The retreat will offer time away from your daily routine, and provide an opportunity for prayer and reflection to examine God s call. In the spirit of St. Martin, who tore his military cloak in half to share with a beggar, St. Martin s Cloak provides financial and other assistance to those in need, particularly those in our parish. Long term problems are referred to community resources. #GIVINGTUESDAY Thank you to all who participated in in our first #GivingTuesday to support St. Jane de Chantal School. A total of $5,505 was donated for the benefit of the School Endowment Fund, the Msgr. Christopher Fund, and the School Technology Fund.
