If you know nothing about the Bible, this is the perfect occasion to find out what it is about. If you are already familiar with the Bible, you will find new avenues to explore. The series continues on the Tuesdays of Lent, 7:00-8:30 pm in the church. Each session will begin with a talk by Fr. Giese, followed by discussion groups. You won t want to miss this occasion to grow deeper in your knowledge and love of God through the Word of God. LENTEN FOOD DRIVE Our parish will hold a Lenten Food Drive the weekend of March 25/26. All donations will go to Manna Foods of Montgomery County. Bags will be handed out next weekend, March 18/19. Thank you for your support. WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. CHERRY BLOSSOMS We have our own cherry blossom watch here on our parish property, thanks to Kim Murray, who donated two trees in memory of her mother, René Granum. Look for the cherry blossoms along Old Georgetown Road, near the sign for the church. FR. GIESE S RETIREMENT FROM MILITARY SERVICE After 30 years in the Air Force Reserves, the Army Reserves, and the Army National Guard, Father Giese will retire from military service on Saturday, March 18. A retirement ceremony will be held for him at the District of Columbia National Guard Armory at 3:00 pm. Fr. Giese is pleased to extend an invitation to all our parishioners. If you plan on attending the ceremony, please contact the parish office for directions and additional information. MORNING OF RECOLLECTION The Sodality will sponsor its annual Morning of Recollection on Saturday, March 25. All St. Jane de Chantal parishioners and guests are invited to the 8:00 am Mass, and for a light breakfast and program immediately following Mass in Caulfield Hall. Fr. Keith Burney, our parochial vicar, will be the guest speaker for this event, which falls on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. In keeping with the feast, Father Burney s topic will be, Yes 2 : Mary s Yes and Our Yes in Forming the Body of Christ. Reservations are appreciated, but not required, and there is no charge for this event. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE The Sodality will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday, April 2, from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm in Caulfield Hall. There is a tremendous need and it takes only a moment of your time. Schedule for a time slot convenient for you. Just follow the link to register on line at zipsponsor=st.+jane+frances+de+chantal. 3 WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES MASS & BRUNCH Are you celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary of 25, 40, 50, 60+ years in 2017? PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS The Pastoral Council advises and assists the pastor in achieving the goals of the parish. This includes: developing and recommending parish policies; striving to represent the needs and views of parishioners as a whole; coordinating activities among the parish organizations; and, performing other tasks to promote the mission and overall good of the parish. The Pastoral Council does not implement programs which are the responsibility of the parish staff or parish organizations, but instead addresses issues that fall outside their purview. Some current matters in which the Pastoral Council is involved include: assisting in social justice initiatives; enhancing the communication of parish activities and needs through a variety of outlets; planning for upcoming parish celebrations; and, developing our evangelization programs. The Pastoral Council consists of 15 members, five of whom are elected each year for three-year terms. It also includes the School Principal, the Director of Faith Formation, and the heads or representatives of the Sodality, Finance Council, Home and School Association, School Board, and CYO. Elections will be held during April to select five council members for a term running from May 2017 until May If you are 18 years of age or older and interested in serving the parish as a member of the council, or if you wish to nominate a fellow parishioner who meets these criteria, please complete the nomination form below and return it to the parish office by 5:00 pm Tuesday, March 28. BIBLE CAMP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Volunteers are needed for our Bible Camp, June 19 23, 9:00 am 12:15 pm. Volunteers are needed to prepare the snack, lead a craft or science experiment, and teach the songs. If you can help one day or every day, we would love to have your help. Volunteers will need to go through a background check, but this is easily completed. DAR CONTEST WINNERS Riley Gozycki (grade 5) and Joanna Pagedas (grade 6) have won at the state level for this year s contest, "Celebrating a Century of America's National Parks." Their essays will now move forward to the regional level of competition. SCIENCE FAIR All students participated in the annual Science Fair. Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders presented their individual projects in front of a panel of judges. The winners were: 1st: Maggie Gleeson, 2nd: Jonas Long, and 3rd: Lauren Long. HOOPS FOR HEART Congratulations to our school community for reaching our goal by raising $22, for the American Heart Association through Hoops For Heart. QUO VADIS EXCURSION Young men in high school are invited to the Quo Vadis Excursion on Sunday, April 2. The day will include a hike on the Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls National Park as well as Last Saturday, members of our Parish Choir sang at the Cathedral of Saint Ma hew the Apostle for the 5:30 pm Vigil Mass for the First Sunday of Lent. In addi on to leading the congrega on in song, the choir offered an extended musical prelude, as well as choral motets at the Offertory and Communion. It was a joy and honor for the choir to sing in the Mother Church of the Archdiocese, which happens to be one of the most beau ful churches in the country, and one of the most acous cally resonant spaces, as well.
