Incline your ear to my cry for help, O Lord. Reading I: 1 Kings 17:10-16 A widow, ready to die, shares the little she has with the prophet and is rewarded with food to sustain her through a drought. Psalm Response: Ps 146 The psalmist lists the liberty lessons from God. We can live in a faith that ensures justice, nourishes our souls, and frees us from our sins. Reading II: Heb Hebrews 9:24-28 The repeated annual sacrifices of the high priest is replaced with the once and for all sacrifice of Christ. This passage both declares a new covenant and describes the act of atonement and sin offering that God both provides and accepts. Gospel: Mk Mark 12:38-44 Mark contrasts Jesus condemnation of those who practice religion for show with the widow who offers God all she has. 1990, GIA Publications, Inc. All rights reserved. WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish: Rodrigo Perez & Amy Kullas & Family If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. A FOND FAREWELL St. Teresa of Avila has said: Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things pass away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices. It is with a heavy heart that I share with you my decision to leave St. Jane s in order to take on a new opportunity at Georgetown University. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your support of the music and liturgical ministries at St. Jane s over the past five and a half years. I am grateful to Fr. Giese and to all of our wonderful music and liturgy volunteers for our time working together. Together we strived to manifest the parish s mission that seeks to enable our fellow parishioners to live the life of Jesus Christ and to share their God-given talents for the benefit of each other and of society. I will continue to be with you for several more weeks, but please keep in your prayers an intention for the calling of a new member of our parish staff to carry on the music and liturgical duties of this wonderful parish. Russell ROSARIES FOR THE UNBORN A big thanks to all who participated in the rosary campaign for the unborn. 121 people participated, committing to a grand total of 2,578 rosaries. SACRED MUSIC IN A SACRED SPACE Join us next Sunday, November 18 at 3:00 pm for a free concert featuring music for trombone and organ performed by Jeremy Buckler, trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra, and Russell Weismann. The concert is free and all are welcome, especially our youngest parishioners who might be learning how to play a brass instrument! ADVENT GIVING TREE The Advent Giving Tree program, sponsored by the St. Jane de Chantal Sodality, will begin Thanksgiving weekend, November 24/25. Ornament gift tags will be hung on trees in the gathering space of church. Each tag indicates a gift request from one of the charitable organizations we support; there will be a chart on the digital board listing the charities, the people they serve, and which color /shape tag goes with each charity. Take a tag from one of the trees and return the gift in a gift bag, with the tag attached. Gifts will be collected only during the Saturday vigil and Sunday Masses the weekends of December 1/2 and December 8/9. Gifts should not be left in the church during the week. If you must leave a gift early, please deliver it to the parish office. Giving Tree questions: Denise Sintetos (sintetos@msn.com ) and Colleen Hadigan (chadigan@aol.com ). ADVENT WREATH WORKSHOP Begin Advent by bringing your family and friends together to learn about the Advent wreath and to make a fresh wreath of your own to take home! Register for one of the two workshops to be offered on Sunday, December 2 in Caulfield Hall: at 1:00 pm or 2:30 pm. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN'T GET TO MASS? Since 1952, the Archdiocese of Washington has produced a weekly televised Mass for those who are homebound, broadcast from the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is a wonderful ministry for those members of our Catholic family who are unable to be physically present with a local worshiping community for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy. The Mass airs every Sunday at 10:30 am on WDCW-50; no cable, Dish or DIRECTV subscribers: Ch. 50; Comcast: Ch. 23 in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Ch. 3 in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland; RCN: Ch 15; Verizon: Ch. 3. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ON TV? Join the congregation at a taping of the TV Mass! Your presence at the TV Mass is a wonderful way to bring the Mass to those who are homebound. Two Masses are taped on the same evening, from 7:30-8:45pm in the Crypt Church of the Basilica at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (400 Michigan Ave., NE in Washington, DC). Come for one Mass or stay for both! Upcoming Thursday taping dates are November 8, 15, and 29, and December 2. To receive the free Celebrate!
