2 SEPTEMBER 13, 2015 IN OUR LITURGY & MUSIC MINISTRIES Visit the Music Ministries page at for information on the many music ensembles at St. Jane. Like the Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Music Ministry on Facebook, and see the list of music for Sunday and information on upcoming events.? DID YOU KNOW? With the recent refurbishment of our tabernacle, many of you may now notice the image of a pelican depicted on its door. The symbolism of the mother pelican feeding her little baby pelicans is rooted in an ancient legend which preceded Christianity. The legend was that in time of famine, the mother pelican wounded herself, striking her breast with the beak to feed her young with her blood to prevent starvation. Another version of the legend was that the mother fed her dying young with her blood to revive them from death, but in turn lost her own life. Given this tradition, one can easily see why the early Christians adapted it to symbolize our Lord, Jesus Christ. The pelican symbolizes Jesus our Redeemer who gave His life for our redemption and the atonement He made through His passion and death. We were dead to sin and have found new life through the Blood of Christ. Moreover, Jesus continues to feed us with His body and blood in the holy Eucharist. Like what tender tales tell of the Pelican Bathe me, Jesus Lord, in what Thy Bosom ran Blood that but one drop of has the power to win All the world forgiveness of its world of sin. - St. Thomas Aquinas CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD Children s Liturgy of the Word is looking for parent leaders and helpers for the Children s Mass on Saturdays at 5:00 pm. There is still time to sign up, and we encourage you to contact one of the following RCIA team members now to learn more and to enroll in this year's Program: Ken Clansky at or Sally Daniel at or BIBLE STUDY At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us learn to pray. The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God. Join Jeff Cavins, Sarah Christmyer, and Dr. Tim Gray as they show you how to establish a deeply personal dialogue with God through the Psalms. Psalms: The School of Prayer will be offered in two sessions, eleven weeks each: Sunday evenings at 6:15 pm beginning September 20, and Thursday mornings, 9:00 10:45 am, beginning September 24. Both sessions will be held in the Seton Center library. Cost is $25.00/person for the study binder. Register by contacting Sally Daniel at SAINT JANE S MUSIC MINISTRY Music Ministry Spotlight: Family Choir For over two years now, I have been telling you about how wonderful our music ministry choirs and ensembles are. They not only enhance our worship, but they also provide parishioners the opportunity to deepen their faith and build community within the parish. This year, don t take my word for it; rather, take the word of one of our members. This week s focus is on the 12:00 noon Mass Family Choir: I enjoy harmonizing with other choir members, my voice has improved over time with regular singing, and it facilitates a deeper participation in the Mass. Mary Hand We close this five-week series featuring our different Parish music groups by showcasing the Family Choir. The Family Choir is relatively new. Last year, recognizing the need for a greater musical presence at the 12:00 noon Mass, the former Contemporary Choir transitioned from the 5:00 pm Sunday Mass into the new Family Choir at the 12:00 noon Sunday Mass. I have high hopes that this group can grow and sustain itself, but it won t happen without your help and participation. Parishioners looking to involve themselves in a music ministry that does not require a substantial time commitment are invited to join the Chantal Family Choir. Membership in this choir is open to anyone, especially teens, young adults, and families. There are no auditions and no formal musical experience is necessary. Practice is on Sundays at 11:10 am and the choir sings at the 12:00 noon Mass September to June. An occasional half hour post-mass rehearsal is held leading up to larger liturgies. This is an opportunity for the entire family to sit together and to sing together. During the pre-mass rehearsal, the choir rehearses the hymns for the Mass and learns a simple, yet beautiful song to offer following the distribution of Communion. If you have any interest in experiencing what it is like to participate in a music ministry, then this group is for you. While casual in its approach, the Family Choir remains musically significant in its leadership at Mass. Have you liked us on Facebook yet? If not, look us up: Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish Music Ministry. Faith grows when it is well expressed in celebration - Good celebrations foster and nourish faith. Music ministry is an integral part of the liturgical celebrations of St. Jane s. Just as Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations rightly demanded by the very nature of liturgy, it is also calls on individuals to participate in music ministry so that these celebrations may be enhanced. Music Ministers at St. Jane s live out their faith, give back to their parish, and answer God s call to serve their neighbors. We invite you to be a part of our parish s diverse and exciting Music Ministry. Please fill out the information below and drop it in the collection basket. STEWARDSHIP In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for those who do not put their faith into action.
