WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP The final session of our Credible Catholic series, "Why would an all loving God allow suffering?" will be held in Caulfield Hall at 7:30 pm this Monday, February 11. Through a series of engaging presentations, this series looks at debunking several secular "myths" which drive many away from the Catholic Church. Come join us for an interesting discussion and some fellowship! PILGRIMAGE WITH FR. BURNEY Fr. SISTERS OF CHARITY The Sisters of Charity asked that I express their extreme gratitude to the parishioners of our great parish for all the wonderful gifts that are provided to them as part of our giving tree at Christmas. I have the privilege of delivering them to the sisters. They absolutely love them and for most of them it is the only gift they receive. Many of them asked that the parishioners include their name and contact information as they want to thank you personally. Sister Catherine Ann sent a letter after Christmas and specifically asked for contact information for whomever bought her gifts FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME as she was very grateful. SNOW POLICY FOR WEEKDAY MASSES If the Federal Government is closed due to inclement weather, St. Jane de Chantal will not hold either the 8:00 am nor the 11:00 am weekday Masses. Please stay safe at home, and allow our snow removal crews to clear and treat our parking lots and walkways. If the Federal Government is opening on a delayed schedule, we will hold both the 8:00 am and 11:00 am Masses. REMEMBER IN PRAYER... those who are sick, and all those in our nursing homes and hospitals, especially John and Pat Krisko. HOOPS FOR HEART February is National Heart Month. As one of our annual giving projects, the students of St. Jane de Chantal will be participating in Hoops for Heart the week of February 11. MARYLAND AGAINST PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE For the fourth time in five years, the Oregon-based special interest group Compassion and Choices is pushing to legalize physician-assisted suicide (PAS) in Maryland, and the Maryland Catholic Conference is joining with its coalition partners to strongly oppose the legislation. The Conference is a long-time member of the Maryland Against Physician Assisted Suicide (MAPAS) Coalition. Titled the "End-of-Life Option Act" (HB 399/SB 311), the bill was introduced at the beginning of February in both chambers of the Maryland General Assembly and is nearly identical to legislation rejected in 2015, 2016 and 2017 by Maryland lawmakers. Hearings have been scheduled for Friday, February 15 in the House, and Tuesday, February 19 at in the Senate. To learn more about Maryland Against Physician Assisted Suicide, sign-up for alerts, and get involved, visit: QUO VADIS SHADOW DAY Juniors and seniors in high school are invited to Saint John Paul II Seminary on Friday, February 15. High school men will eat three meals, attend class, Mass, and Adoration with seminarians, and have an opportunity to ask questions. In addition, the attendees will be able to engage with others who may also be considering the seminary as an option for college. For more information, and to register, visit CATHOLICS IN ANNAPOLIS Registration is now open for the Maryland Catholic Conference's annual event, Catholics in Annapolis, which will be held on Thursday, February 21 starting at 3:00 pm. Each year, the Maryland Catholic Conference welcomes hundreds of Catholics from across Maryland to the capital to meet face-to-face with legislators and share the Church's position on important issues. Among the key issues Catholics will be asked to address on this session are a proposed abortion rights constitutional amendment, securing scholarships for low-income students, stopping the legalization of assisted suicide, and protecting human rights. They will also be presenting the premieres of two newly commissioned pieces: Allison Clendaniel s Fountain and James Young s Magnificat. The concert is free and all are welcome. Since 1952, the Archdiocese of Washington has produced a weekly televised Mass for those who are homebound, broadcast from the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is a wonderful ministry for those members of our Catholic family who are unable to be physically present with a local worshiping community for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy. The Mass airs every Sunday at 10:30 am on WDCW-50; no cable, Dish or DIRECTV subscribers: Ch. 50; Comcast: Ch. 23 in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Ch. 3 in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland; RCN: Ch 15; Verizon: Ch. 3. communications@adw.org with the mailing address(es) of those you know are unable to attend Mass so they can receive the free Celebrate! The theme of the 2019 Appeal is Our Faith. Our Hope. Our Mission and is much different from a one-time special collection.
