(I call to You, Lord Jesus Christ) LENT IN OUR PARISH FASTING & ABSTINENCE All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence for those age 14 and above. On weekdays during Lent, there is no obligation to fast, however, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommended. CARPOOLING WITH CHRIST "Carpooling with Christ," a holy hour with Eucharistic Adoration, will take place each Wednesday of Lent from 2:00 2:45 pm in the church. All are welcome to come in for a few minutes of prayer, or to stay the entire time! CONFESSIONS This Lenten season, each Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Washington will have confessions available every Wednesday evening from 6:45-8:00 pm. If you have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and His Church. SOUP, SAINTS, & STATIONS Join us on Fridays of Lent, beginning in Caulfield Hall with a lite meal of soup and bread served at 6:30 pm, and a presentation on a saint beginning at 6:50 pm. Visit crsricebowl.org for more. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE: BETHESDA CAMPAIGN 40 Days for Life Bethesda Campaign continues through Palm Sunday (March 25). 40 Days for Life is a pro-life organization which effectively employs prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil outside facilities around the world to save unborn babies and help their mothers, close abortion facilities and convert abortion center workers. 40 Days for Life is currently conducting a campaign outside LeRoy Carhart s late-term abortion clinic at the Wildwood Medical Center (10401 Old Georgetown Road). JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish: Sylvia Giese Jessica Medrano If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. DONUT SOCIAL All parishioners are invited to share coffee, donuts, and friendship after the 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 12:00 noon Masses this Sunday, January 18. PRESIDENTS DAY HOLIDAY This Monday, February 19, is Presidents Day, a federal holiday. The only Mass at St. Jane will be celebrated at 8:00 am. The parish office will be closed. SODALITY FASHION SHOW & LUNCHEON Tickets for the March 3 Sodality Fashion Show and Luncheon will be sold this weekend, February 17/18, after the 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday, and after the 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 12:00 moon Masses on Sunday. Credit cards are accepted with a $1.50 fee per ticket. Tickets may be purchased online at events/details/1230. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES The Girl Scout troops of St. Jane de Chantal Parish will be selling Girl Scout cookies after all Masses this weekend, February 17/18, to support their troop activities like camping and service projects. Get your favorite cookies: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Di-Dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, S mores, and gluten-free Toffee-Tastics. VOLUNTEERS FOR SERVICE AT SHEPHERD S TABLE Twice a month, on Mondays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, a team of 12 parishioners assist Shepherd Table s personnel and other volunteers in providing meals to on average 120 homeless and hungry people. The team is looking for three or four additional parish volunteers, in order to remain a self sufficient parish team. Anyone interested can call Edouard Motte ( ) or Bill Primosch ( ). YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP The Young Adult Fellowship is for 20 and 30 somethings, single or married, who would like to get more involved in our parish. SIXTH GRADE TO THE BASILICA Recently, the sixth grade class took a field trip to the Basilica of the National Shrine. They toured all of the ornate chapels within the basilica, which were designed by different countries. They were impressed by the tall mosaic of Jesus made up of 3.5 million tiles behind the baldachin altar. The magnitude of the artwork was overwhelming and created moments for prayer and reflection. CELEBRATION FOR THE OLYMPICS In honor of the 2018 winter Olympics the middle school PE classes are taking part in their own Olympics. The middle school students were separated into four different countries to compete in "Olympic-themed" sports such as bobsled, cross country skiing, and skating. The entire school dressed up in red, white, and blue to show their support for Team USA on the day of the opening ceremony. FIRST GRADE PAMPERS PROGRAM Did you know that our first grade supplies diapers for the Christ Child Society's Layette Program? We encourage the children to find chores around the house that they can do to earn the money to pay for the diapers, as well as collect diaper donations from others. This is one way our young students are able to give back to the community and feel invested in the giving. SAVE THE DATE: SHAMROCK SHINDIG St. Jane de Chantal School's bi-annual Gala and Auction will be held Saturday, March 10. The evening kicks off at 7:30 pm, and will feature Irish hors d'oeuvres and drink, dancing and bidding. The Bachelor Boys Band will be performing, so wear your dancing shoes and casual green attire! This hope-filled retreat will take place Saturday, March 3, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the St. John Paul II National Shrine (3900 Harewood Rd, NE). The retreat will include inspiring talks from a pastor, a young adult who has returned to the Church, and parents who have started prayer groups, as well as the celebration of Mass and the opportunity for confession. The retreat is free, and lunch, refreshments, and resources will be provided. Register at LOURDES ANNOINTING MASS The Federal Association of the Order of Malta invites the sick, disabled, and elderly to receive the sacrament of anointing of the sick at a Lourdes Anointing Mass on Saturday, March 17, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church (9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac). There will be an anointing and a blessing with Lourdes water. Members of the Order of Malta will be present to help people throughout the morning. Family, friends, and caregivers are invited. A light luncheon reception will follow Mass. There is no charge for the day. Our Lady of Mercy is completely accessible and there is plenty of parking. WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES: IRELAND 2018 The archdiocesan Office for Family Life will participate in the World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin, Ireland. The 11-day pilgrimage will be from August and includes: official registration to the World Meeting of Families, visits to Knock Sanctuary, Kylemore Abbey, the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, Folk Park, and a cruise on Lough Corrib, with non-stop roundtrip flights from Washington Dulles to Dublin and 9 nights in 3* and 4* hotels. This pilgrimage will be an important and joyful way to prepare for participation in the World Meeting of Families.
