JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH LENT IN OUR PARISH CARPOOLING WITH CHRIST "Carpooling with Christ," a holy hour with Eucharistic Adoration, will take place each Wednesday of Lent from 2:00 2:45 pm in the church. All are welcome to come in for a few minutes of prayer, or to stay the entire time! CONFESSIONS This Lenten season, each Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Washington will have confessions available every Wednesday evening from 6:45-8:00 pm. If you have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and His Church. Learn more at Confessions are also heard at St. Jane each Saturday, 3:45-4:45 pm. SOUP, SAINTS, & STATIONS Join us on Fridays of Lent, beginning in Caulfield Hall with a lite meal of soup and bread served at 6:30 pm, and a presentation on a saint beginning at 6:50 pm. March 2: St. John Paul II with George Weigel; March 9: St. Jane Frances de Chantal with Sr. Mada-anne Gell, VHN; March 16: Blessed Chiara Badano with Fr. Burney; and March 23: Sts. Visit crsricebowl.org for more. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE: BETHESDA CAMPAIGN 40 Days for Life Bethesda Campaign continues through Palm Sunday (March 25). 40 Days for Life is a pro-life organization which effectively employs prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil outside facilities around the world to save unborn babies and help their mothers, close abortion facilities and convert abortion center workers. 40 Days for Life is currently conducting a campaign outside LeRoy Carhart s late-term abortion clinic at the Wildwood Medical Center (10401 Old Georgetown Road). VOLUNTEERS FOR SERVICE AT SHEPHERD S TABLE Twice a month, on Mondays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, a team of 12 parishioners assist Shepherd Table s personnel and other volunteers in providing meals to on average 120 homeless and hungry people. The team is looking for three or four additional parish volunteers, in order to remain a self sufficient parish team. Anyone interested can call Edouard Motte ( ) or Bill Primosch ( ). YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP The Young Adult Fellowship is for 20 and 30 somethings, single or married, who would like to get more involved in our parish. 4 FEBRUARY 25, 2018 February 25 at the Science Fair. Projects are on display from the pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in the gym from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Come support our school and see the winning projects in the junior high grades. SONGS ACROSS AMERICA The fourth grade classes performed their annual Songs Across America show this past week for their parents in the evening, and the school children during the day. Dressed in blue jeans and tie-dye t-shirts, and waving flags, they performed patriotic songs such as the Star Spangled Banner and You're a Grand Old Flag. They rattled off the states' names in alphabetical order as well as all of the state capitals. In between the songs, fourth grade students recited the history of how each state got its name. Students noted that some of the states had French, British, or Native American names. ANNUAL SPELLING BEE Congratulations to sixth grader, Meaghan Quirk for winning the 2018 St. Jane de Chantal School spelling bee! There was tough competition between the 27 class finalists representing 3rd-8th grades. Seventh grade student, Paolo Rivero took third place, leaving eighth-grader Isabella Totia and Meaghan Quirk to battle it out for first place. After too many rounds to count, Meaghan won. Meaghan will represent St. Jane at the regional spelling bee in March. RETREAT FOR PARENTS The archdiocesan Office for Family Life is hosting a half-day retreat, Gather Together All Your Children Scattered Throughout the World, for parents whose children are away from the Church. This hope-filled retreat will take place Saturday, March 3, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the St. John Paul II National Shrine (3900 Harewood Rd, NE). The retreat will include inspiring talks from a pastor, a young adult who has returned to the Church, and parents who have started prayer groups, as well as the celebration of Mass and the opportunity for confession. The retreat is free, and lunch, refreshments, and resources will be provided. Register at LOURDES ANNOINTING MASS The Federal Association of the Order of Malta invites the sick, disabled, and elderly to receive the sacrament of anointing of the sick at a Lourdes Anointing Mass on Saturday, March 17, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church (9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac). There will be an anointing and a blessing with Lourdes water. Members of the Order of Malta will be present to help people throughout the morning. Family, friends, and caregivers are invited. A light luncheon reception will follow Mass. There is no SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT charge for the day. Our Lady of Mercy is completely accessible and there is plenty of parking. QUO VADIS HIKING TRIP On Sunday, April 15, all high school aged men who are interested in learning more about the priesthood are invited to go on a Quo Vadis hiking trip in Montgomery County. The day will include Mass, lunch, Eucharistic Adoration, dinner, and the opportunity to spend time with priests, seminarians, and other high school aged men who are open to the priesthood. Bus transportation is available from throughout the archdiocese. WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES: IRELAND 2018 The archdiocesan Office for Family Life will participate in the World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin, Ireland. The 11-day pilgrimage will be from August and includes: official registration to the World Meeting of Families, visits to Knock Sanctuary, Kylemore Abbey, the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, Folk Park, and a cruise on Lough Corrib, with non-stop roundtrip flights from Washington Dulles to Dublin and 9 nights in 3* and 4* hotels. (See Romans 8:32) SECOND COLLETION: CHURCH IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD The second collection this weekend, February 24/25, is the annual collection for the Church in the Developing World: the Church in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and Africa. It supports evangelization, the education of clergy and laity, youth ministry, catechesis, social service programs, and church construction and renovation. Your generosity will provide support for areas of ministry we often take for granted in our archdiocese. And it is sad to note that, when faced with the ever-varying circumstances of our daily lives, there are voices raised that take advantage of pain and uncertainty; the only thing they aim to do is sow distrust.
