WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. SCHOOL SUPPLIES COLLECTION The Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Unit of Sodality will be accepting donations of school supplies for the children who attend religious education at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Washington, DC. The supplies will be collected after all Masses this weekend, August 26/27. Supplies needed are: spiral notebooks, 2-pocket folders, binders, composition notebooks, construction paper, copy paper, Elmer s school glue, Expo markers with eraser and cleaner, La Biblia Latino Americana (Spanish, hard cover, small size), pencil sharpeners, pencils, colored pencils, combo packs of pencil erasers and grips, pens, washable markers, rulers, scissors, and transparent tape. ANDREW VU S FAREWELL RECITAL All are welcome to attend a recital performed by Andrew Vu, our outgoing Assistant Director of Music, on Friday, September 1, at 7:30. This recital is in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music degree at The Catholic University of TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME America. The performance will offer us the opportunity to say goodbye to Andrew as he begins his position as Assistant Organist at the National Shrine. A reception will follow in Caulfield Hall. YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP Our first event of the year will take place on Saturday, September 16. Join us at the parish rectory following the 5:00 pm Mass for games, food, drink, and a good time. Bring a friend or two. If you are interested in joining us for Mass prior to the BBQ, meet us in the back of church a few minutes before Mass. We will see you on the field side of the school building after the 5:00 pm Mass; the event ends promptly at 8:00. There will be the usual moon bounces, DJ, and other fun on the field, along with great food and fellowship. It is a great time to check in with folks you have not seen since the Spring, as well as to meet and greet new families to our school. The price is $40.00 per family until September 6; after that and at the door, the price is $45.00 per family. Online sales will be made available soon. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Are you an adult who has been wondering how to join the Catholic Church? Do you still need to complete your Sacraments of Initiation: confirmation or Eucharist? We are looking for people to join our RCIA team as sponsors for RCIA candidates. K OF C FAMILY END-OF-SUMMER PICNIC The Knights of Columbus, Rock Creek Council 2797, invite all parishioners to attend their Family End-of-Summer Picnic this Sunday, August 27, from Noon to 3:30 pm, at the Rock Creek Council house (5417 West Cedar Lane, Bethesda). The event will feature moon bounces, face painting, lawn games, and plenty of room for the kids to run around. The food will be hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, potato salad, coleslaw, chips, sodas, juice boxes, water, draft beer, and freezer pops. The cost is $5 for individuals and $15 per family. VINCENT CAPODANNO A 50th Anniversary Memorial Mass for Father Vincent R. Capodanno, MM, will take place on Tuesday, September 5 at 6:30 pm in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (400 Michigan Ave., NE). Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services will be the main celebrant. This annual Mass is celebrated in memory of Father Capodanno, killed in Vietnam on September 4, 1967 as he aided embattled Marines. In May 2006, the Catholic Church officially proclaimed him a Servant of God, formally initiating his cause for canonization. Military members are encouraged to wear uniform of the day, and business attire is appropriate for civilians. Theology on Tap will always be on the second Thursday of the month, so set your schedules for next month too. MASS FOR VENERABLE MSGR. ALOYSIUS SCHWARTZ A Mass commemorating the life of Venerable Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 5:00 pm at St. Andrew Apostle Church (11600 Kemp Mill Rd., Silver Spring). Cardinal Wuerl will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Aloysius Schwartz was born in Washington, DC in 1930, and attended Holy Name Church and School. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1957, and began mission work in the Diocese of Busan, South Korea, just six months after ordination. Schwartz died on March 16, 1992, three years after being diagnosed with ALS. On January, 22, 2015, Pope Francis authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to declare Fr. Aloysius Schwartz Venerable a title given to those who lived a life of heroic virtue and the next step to sainthood. He is the first person from the Archdiocese of Washington to receive this title. Al, visit EIGHTH ANNUAL WHITE MASS The Archdiocese of Washington Eighth Annual White Mass will be held Sunday, October 22, at 11:30 am, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew (1725 Rhode Island Ave., NW). Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, will be the Principal Celebrant. This Mass has the designation white because of that color s connection to our baptismal promises, and it has now become a tradition that all the participants at the liturgy wear white, to symbolize the bonds of community we all share through this sacrament of initiation.
