One may pray before the tabernacle or participate in Eucharistic Adoration with the Blessed Sacrament in exposition within the monstrance. The celebration of the Eucharist in the Sacrifice of the Mass is truly the origin and end of the worship given to the Eucharist outside of Mass. The reservation of the Eucharist permits the practice of adoring and praising this great Sacrament, offering the Reserved Sacrament the worship due to God. Accordingly, forms of adoration that are not only private but also public and communitarian in nature, as approved by the Church, are strongly promoted. Instruction on the Eucharist, Chapter VI, Number , Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, Liturgy Office, 925 South Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA In your Prayers please remember Frances R. Middler Aunt to Mickey Keytack; who died recently. May she rest in peace. May God bless and console her family. Hello, I am Lydia Sorchilla. I am making my confirmation this year and my confirmation project is Pennies for Power. My project will help support and fund heat and electricity for our CCD classes in the parish. I will have containers at both worship sites during the month of March starting March 9th. Any change would be appreciated to help aid my project. Thank in advance for your support. -Lydia Sorchilla Stations of the Cross for students of Religious Ed and Catholic School will be held Sundays at 3:30PM at St. Gregory s Church from March 10 th April 7 th. Students and parents please check your schedules. Anyone is welcome to join us at that time for Stations of the Cross. I would like to thank our parishioners for making my individual confirmation project a success. I had delivered several bags of clothing, toiletry items, and books to Distinctive Human Services to provide to their clients in nursing homes. They were extremely grateful for these items and thankful for the generosity of our parish. Thank you again for your support. 3 FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BOB The cross of ash on our forehead is gone but our liturgical journey to Easter has just begun in this season of Lent. In the cold and snow of this winter season we look forward to the arrival of Spring but in this 40-day journey to the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are hopefully making the effort to be reborn once again into the fullness of life promised us if we but follow in the way of the Lord. Often it can be the way of the cross for us as we attempt to live each day of this journey following in the way of Jesus. We are being asked to endure the labor pains of giving birth to His divine presence in our time and place in history. There is nothing wrong about giving-up candy for Lent but often that can be for personal reasons, such as losing a few pounds, but it has nothing to do with making His Gospel message a part of our everyday lives. Just as Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, we are faced with temptations that concern our spiritual wellbeing for they present themselves as the good, especially when we are hungry for power, success, or material possessions. The evangelist Luke in our Gospel account this weekend tells us that the devil departed from Him for a time. This was not to be the last encounter between the devil and Jesus. Should we then not expect the same to occur in our own journey to the promised Kingdom? Human beings are faced with temptations that concern our well-being (bread), our own power and glory (kingdoms of this world), or the limits of God s power (throwing oneself off the parapet of the temple). We do not inherit that heavenly kingdom by our own power and might but by that sacrificial gift of the Son, Jesus, upon the wood of the cross on Calvary. Just as Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, so must we in the hour of our temptation. May we take advantage of this Lenten season to deepen our own relationship with God the Father, secure in our filial relationship with the Son, Jesus the Christ, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit that enable each of us to renew the face of this earth. For forty days we are asked to embrace fasting, prayer, and almsgiving to empty ourselves in order to be filled anew with the abundance of God. By doing so, we too will rise to a new and better life even before our earthly death. This becomes our reason to rejoice and be glad in the here and now. L F F M 8 A 12 B L - ; F F G F I D!!! D F 4PM - 7PM B A 4-6:30PM Fish Fry Week in Daisytown: Fridays, March 8th - April 12th & Good Friday, April 19th Thursdays fish is cut and packed. This process takes approximately two hours beginning at 8:00AM. It is also time to clean the shrimp. Again this process can be done in 2 hours if we have enough help. Thursdays at 6:00PM we will begin baking for the dessert counter. BAKING HELP NEEDED! During this Lenten Fish Fry Season, we will be baking everything Thursday evening starting at 6:00 PM. We could used extra help during this time. Please come lend a hand. First baking session will be Thursday March 2nd. Friday mornings 8AM, is when we bread the shrimp & fish, cut cabbage and prepare the cole slaw. Friday afternoon we begin serving at 4PM. We also need extra help after the dinner is completed at 6:30PM to pack and store the leftovers and do the final cleanup. REMINDER: 11th Grade Spring Group Service Project is to reset halls 9:00AM Sunday mornings. Fish Fry Week in Bon Air: Fridays, March 8th-April 12th Friday morning fish is cut and breaded. Friday afternoon we begin serving at 4PM. We also need extra help after the dinner is completed to pack and store the leftovers, and clean off counters/stove/fryers etc. 6:30PM. Guests are always amazed at the number of parishioners who are actively involved in making these dinners possible. Those remarks also speak volumes about the vibrancy and life of our faith community. Help us through the next seven weeks and we will give you the standard pink slips for unemployment compensation at Easter! Jr./Sr. high students are asked to fulfill their service requirement by assisting at either hall. Make this a part of your Lenten discipline and discover that it can also be an enjoyable experience. HOSPITALIZED PLEASE, if you have a loved one admitted to the hospital or nursing home contact the office. The hospital may take your church information, but we are not always notified. Fr. Bob likes to get to the hospital in a timely manner, but cannot if he doesn t know. Thanks for your help. PRAYER CHAIN Do you know someone who needs prayers? Please contact Debbie Washington at or dlwashi@hotmail.com to place a name on the parish Prayer Chain! Boxes for requests are also located in the vestibules of our worship sites. Each week, after each mass, a different ministry will be taught to anyone who would like to volunteer at mass. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the parish, and is a great Lenten opportunity as well. More Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, and servers are needed in our parish, and all help will be greatly appreciated! March 9-10: Eucharistic Minister Training March 16-17: Server Training March 23-24: Lector Training Everyday Stewardship 1st Sunday of Lent It will take too long. I can't spare it. I don't know anybody. I am just too busy. How many excuses can you think of to put forth as reasons why you should say no to the call of Jesus Christ? Wait. You didn't know to whom those responses were directed? We say no to many things and many people, but we wouldn't say no to Jesus. Really? During this Lenten season, like all the other seasons, we will be asked to respond in many different ways. There will be fasting, almsgiving, and abstinence from certain foods. There will be invitations to various devotions and formational studies. We will be asked to reflect on our faith and then dive deeper. The argument will be made by some that many of these things are being asked of us by others and not Jesus. Of course, that will just be another excuse like those above. For every calling upon us comes with a temptation to take the easy way out or to minimize the value of the request. We will stay caught up in an endless cycle of excuses that lead us nowhere. That is unless we simply choose to stop the madness and say YES! This Lent, give up and give in. Let God take over as you surrender all you are and have to Him. Now is the time to turn to Jesus. No more excuses. Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Liturgical Publications
