Please call the rectory office to make arrangements. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples planning to marry are to make arrangements at least nine months prior to their wedding date. Diocesan Guidelines regarding Marriage Preparation must be followed. The Catholic party/parties is/are to be registered, active members in the parish. Anointing of the Sick: Please call the church office if you have a family member or friend in the hospital who would like to receive the Sacraments. The homebound and parishioners in nursing homes should also receive the Sacrament of the Sick and Holy Communion. Parish Membership: New members are always welcome! If you are moving into, within, or out of the Parish, please call the Rectory Office and let us know. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): All who would like more information about membership in the Roman Catholic Church are invited to call the Church Office.

By Sister, Brother & Families Liturgical Reflection 1st Sunday of Advent Advent prepares us for the great celebration of Christmas. Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ's first coming to us is remembered and as a season when that remembrance directs our mind and heart to await Christ's Second Coming at the end of time. Advent Season is a period for devout and joyful expectation. General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, Number 39. Immaculate Conception This Saturday, December 8, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a Holy Day of Obligation as we celebrate with the Patroness of the United States. This feast commemorates that she who was to bear the Incarnate Word of God was immaculate herself from the first moment of her conception. America turns to Our Lady under the title of the Immaculate Conception asking her intercession to watch over us and guide us along the path of justice and peace. Check the times above for Mass this Saturday (and Vigil Mass on Friday). Note: the 4PM Vigil Mass on Saturday, December 8, is the commemoration of the Second Sunday of Advent. 3 FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BOB HOSPITALIZED With the First Sunday of Advent our Church begins a new liturgical year. Unfortunately, it is often over-powered by the commercial rush to Christmas. We are called to prepare a way for the Lord so that He may be reborn in our hearts so that we become the presence of Jesus in the next 364 days of This would be the best gift we could give on the day we celebrate His humble birth in a manger, a food bin for cattle. Obviously, we decorate our homes with colorful lights, we seek to find meaningful gifts for loved ones, and to hopefully become the presence of the Lord Jesus in the coming year to a troubled earth. It certainly begins in our own families, in our parish communities of faith, and the places where we work. Unfortunately, it is that gift which often gets tossed away with the Christmas wrappings and the tree. We have been blessed by the gift of the divine, but we also are called to be reflections of His love so as to give us the hope and will to continue to live and walk in the belief that we are now those disciples sent forth to proclaim the good news of our salvation in our time and place. We have also been reminded that Jesus will come again in glory but will be prepared to welcome Him? The birth of Jesus went un-noticed for the most part, but His presence in our time and place also is seldom recognized. This is where we as His disciples must make Him known. We are not asked to preach the good news of the Gospel but to live it every day of our lives. As we journey through this season of Advent, we need to make the time for prayer and reflection. It will not happen if we don t make it a part of our daily schedule of things we need to do. We enjoy the lights and decorations of the holiday season, but we also need to allow the gift of faith to open our hearts once again so as for Him to be reborn in our hearts. I hope to have a listing of area Penance services by next weekend. I will schedule additional days and times for the sacrament here in the parish but the best opportunity, and the quickest, are the communal ones where there is a variety of priests, and so I encourage you to take advantage of those penance services if possible. This also helps to make my schedule less stressful. I will be at the services to which I have been invited, and these will be published in the bulletin as I receive them. I thank you in advance for helping to make my schedule less stressful. Angel Trees are out! We appreciate your generosity in helping these families. Please remember we are asking that gi s be returned as soon as possible so that we may account for all the tags. Also, be sure to tape the tag from the tree on the gi (the colored tags help us to know what family each child belongs to). Feel free to drop them off at the office any me Mon-Fri between 9AM-2PM. The last day to drop off gi s will be December 17th. We are to deliver the gi s to Vic m Services first thing Tuesday morning on December 18th so they can take them to the families that day. We appreciate your help in ge ng them back to us as early as possible. Thank you! A Christmas Creed I Believe that Christmas is more than a time for parties and ornaments; it is a time for remembering Christ and the incarnation of God s love in human flesh. I Believe there are gifts more important than the ones under the Christmas tree; the things we teach our children, the way we share ourselves with friends, and the industry with which we set about reshaping the world in our time. I Believe that the finest carols are often sung by the poorest voices; from hearts made warm by the wonder of the season. I Believe in the angel s message that we should not be afraid that the Child of Bethlehem is able to overcome all anxieties and insecurities. I Believe in prayer and quietness as a way of appropriating Christmas that if I wait in silence I will experience the presence of the one born in the manger, for He lives today as surely as He lived then. I Believe in going away from Christmas as the wise men went another way. I want to be different when these days are past more centered, more thoughtful, more caring. And I Believe God will help me. Oplatki Wafers will be available this weekend in the sacristy for those who celebrate this ancient custom. Breaking and sharing the wafer on the eve of Christmas is symbolic of our best wishes extended to family and friends, accompanied by expressions of forgiveness. Thus we share harmony and joy in the birth of Christ as we pray for peace and happiness in our hearts and homes. Packs of three wafers, along with explanation of tradition, can be purchased for $1.00.

4 Families and the Gospel December 2 Lk 21:25-28, At this time of the year we are very conscious of our family as we make preparations for Christmas. Today s gospel warns us not to be consumed by all the consumer activity. This Advent appreciate the gift of people in your life. The best gift this season might be your appreciation of others. Communal Penance Services: During the season of Advent, Catholics are encouraged to seek God s healing and forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Soup and Sandwich Luncheon to bring back Donut Sunday! The 9th grade CCD class will be hosting a free Soup and Sandwich Luncheon at 12:00 on December 9th as their fall service project. Soup, sandwiches, desserts, and drinks will be served. All donations collected will be used to bring back Donut Sunday s beginning the first Sunday in January, and lasting until the end of this school year. On Donut Sunday s, donuts and coffee will be served in Bon Air following 8:00 AM mass in hopes of strengthening our community of faith. Please join us and support our students in their efforts!
