3 Letter from our Parish Pastor Dear Parishioners, This weekend we celebrate The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus, who fed the crowds with bread and fish, feeds believers now with living bread and saving cup. I am looking forward to the up-coming Parish Council/Parish Planning Committee. We are hoping to discuss some new ideas for parish celebrations which will be joyful, social occasions. If you have any ideas which you might like to present at this meeting please write them down and bring them to the rectory. Don t forget to sign your name to your suggestions and we will be glad to do what we can to plan a vibrant fall and spring season at St. Mark Parish. In the meantime, enjoy the good weather! Father Christopher J. Turczany Pastor St. Mark Parish First Deanery Meeting Coming Up The first meeting for the newly formed Deanery will be on Wednesday, June 5th at 4PM at St. Columba Parish. The Deanery meetings may be attended by the participating Parish Staffs but the Pastors of each parish must be in attendance at each and every meeting. Stay tuned for more Information. Anointing of the sick, Saturday, June 8 at8:30am Every first Saturday of the month we invite you to come to the 8:30AM Mass and receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. You may receive this sacrament if you have a serious or chronic health issue. Please come and receive the healing grace of God. Father Saffron Assigned to St. Anselm s At the end of June, Fr. Saffron will leave St. Mark Parish to take up his new assignment at St. Anselm s Parish in Brooklyn. We will miss him very much and wish Fr. Saffron all the best as he begins his new ministry. There will be a farewell Mass on June 23rd at 12:30PM followed by a reception in the School Gymnasium. Please mark your calendar! The Feast of the Sacred Heart On Friday, June 7, every church in the diocese of Brooklyn will have Eucharistic Adoration from 2:00PM until 8:00PM. You are encourage to take time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament and have some quiet time with the Lord Jesus. Finance Committee Meeting As you know, every parish must have a Finance Committee to oversee and offer assistance to the Pastor regarding the formulation of the annual parish budget. There will be a meeting of the Finance Committee on Thursday, June 6 th and Deacon Mickey Cutter (Compliance Officer for Strategic Action Plans) will attend the meeting to offer assistance as we review the Parish Strategic Plan and the Parish Financial Report.

Society of St. Vincent DePaul Gives Back St. Mark should share in the profits. For each car, truck or van, running or not. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION We owe today s beautiful feast to a valiant woman who suffered a great deal to establish a feast out of her love for the Eucharist. Juliana was a nun in Belgium in the thirteenth century. She served in a hospital for lepers. She became convinced through her prayer that the liturgical year was incomplete because it had no feast for the Eucharist. Her efforts were not welcome, and a supervising priest sought to punish her for promoting a feast that nobody wanted. He even had her accused of financial mismanagement and banished her from her convent. Shortly after she was exiled, the bishop approved the feast. It quickly spread through Europe. In those days, people very seldom received Holy Communion, and so the processions through the streets with the eucharistic bread not only led to an awareness of Christ s hunger to be with us, but prepared the way for a deeper desire to receive Christ s Body and Blood in more frequent Communion. The feast grew rapidly, but Juliana disappeared into poverty and a hidden life. She ended her days as an anchoress, a woman living in seclusion in a room attached to a parish church. Imagine her delight at seeing us gathered at the table of the Lord on this day, aware of Christ s presence in our midst, sharing fully in Christ s Body and Blood. Our celebration today invests her struggle and sorrows with dignity and meaning.
