A copy of the birth certificate and attendance at Baptism Preparation class are required. Baptism is celebrated several Sundays a the year at 11:00 AM. Reconciliation/Confession Saturdays after 4:00 pm Mass, by request after weekday Mass, and other times that are mutually convenient for you and Fr. Chris. Marriage Couples wishing to marry must contact Fr. Chris at least six months prior to the date they desire. Log on to for info. Anointing of the Sick Anyone seriously ill may ask for this Sacrament of Healing. You may also request prayers and visits to homebound/ill parishioners. MARY STAR OF THE SEA BROOKLYN National Marriage Week USA and World Marriage Day are opportunities to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting marriage and the family, wrote Archbishop C. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.. February 7-14 marks the annual celebration of National Marriage week USA. World Marriage Day is celebrated annually on the 2nd Sunday of February. ** WE WILL HAVE A SPECIAL BLESSING OF ALL MARRIED COUPLES WHO ATTEND THE 10 am MASS on FEB. 10th ** Did you know that married adults live longer lives, have better health, and greater personal happiness? Children who are raised by a married mother and father perform better in school, have fewer addictions, fewer teen pregnancies, and less trouble with the law. Research clearly shows that marriage boosts measures of human wellbeing for children, women, and men: 78% of married people own their own home, while only 41% of cohabitating adults do. Married men benefit from an average annual economic marriage premium of at least $15,900 per year compared to their unmarried peers. The seismic shift in family structure over the course of the past few decades has broadened income gaps and deepened class divides. The New York Times highlighted sociological evidence of the impact of marriage on wealth, status, health, and happiness in an important article, Two Classes, Divided by I Do. Scholars at the National Marriage Project a nonpartisan, interdisciplinary initiative at the University of Virginia explain marriage as a wealth-generating institution, which is true for people of every race. Research shows that marriage is the unsung anti-poverty program. These workshops are a must for families or individuals concerned with memory loss. Understand the science and dispel myths. Learn how to talk about memory loss with your family. Session 1 - Know the 10 Signs - Sunday, Feb.3 at 11:15am - Warning signs of Alzheimer s disease are often dismissed as side effects of normal aging. If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it s time to learn the facts.( You would be able to get there in time after our 10am Mass) Session 2 - The Basics Monday, Feb.4 at 12:30pm - Understand the science & dispel myths. Learn about detection, causes, and risk factors. Explore stages of the disease and treatment. 3 A wonderful way to surprise and delight your child/children is to have us wish them a Happy Birthday in our bulletin. If you would like this, please contact Debbie in the Rectory at least 3 weeks prior to the birthday because we often have to expedite bulletins due to holidays. Every so often someone approaches me asking if they are able to receive Communion due to divorce or other personal issues. More often that not, people abstain from receiving Holy Communion because they were erroneously told by someone that they shouldn t. There are many misunderstandings regarding our Church s teachings. You may always speak with me. I will do my best to help you. Please give me a call and we ll figure out a good time to talk. I would love nothing better than to help you reunite with Christ in the Eucharist. THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME TIME The holidays are well behind us; the year stretches out ahead. And what sort of year will it be? To judge by the words of Jesus in today s Gospel, it will be a year acceptable to the Lord. And Jesus surely didn t mean only the next three hundred sixty-five days facing his listeners at that time. When Jesus announced the arrival of God s favor, it was a message for all time, for every year. Similarly, we read today in Nehemiah how the people gathered with solemnity to hear God s word as though for the first time. They listened, and then fell to the ground and wept. But the prophet said, Today is holy... do not be sad, and do not weep. The year acceptable to the Lord is this year. The day that is holy is this day. The time to listen is now. What sort of year will you have? What sort of day? God s help is always here. What you do with each day can be holy and acceptable to the Lord if you but listen to and act on God s word. Catholics who are new to our Parish are asked to please introduce themselves to Fr. Chris after Mass. Registration may be done at the rectory during office hours or by dropping the parish membership form in the collection basket. Active parishioners are those who are registered, join us regularly for the celebration of the Mass and use the weekly donation envelopes. Only in this way can we issue documents attesting to Parish Membership and Catholic practice.
