Since we live in challenging times of new possibilities, we as stewards pledge to strive to provide for the spiritual and temporal needs of our people. As the stars guide the ships at sea, we seek to be a welcoming beacon of prayer and community to all who come that they find a home for their hearts and comfort for their souls. A copy of the birth certificate and attendance at Baptism Preparation class are required. Baptism is celebrated several Sundays a the year at 11:00 AM. Reconciliation/Confession Saturdays after 4:00 pm Mass, by request after weekday Mass, and other times that are mutually convenient for you and Fr. Chris. Marriage Couples wishing to marry must contact Fr. Chris at least six months prior to the date they desire. Log on to for info. Anointing of the Sick Anyone seriously ill may ask for this Sacrament of Healing. You may also request prayers and visits to homebound/ill parishioners. Rose Campo married Angelo Barbera here on February 26, years ago! We miss Angelo but are blessed to have Rose Barbera who continues ministering! 2 ST. MARY STAR OF THE SEA BROOKLYN World Marriage Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd Sunday of February. TODAY! February 7-14 marks the annual celebration of National Marriage Week USA. The theme this year is - Marriage: Made for a Reason. Married life is such a crucial vocation, not just for the Church but for the world! We need more parishioners to come forward and serve. WE NEED YOU! All potential ministers must be registered, envelope using parishioners and be interviewed by Fr. Chris. The next training workshop is Saturday, April 6th from 9:00am to 3:30pm at St. Edmund Prep High School, 2474 Ocean Ave., Brooklyn Please pray about and consider becoming a minister. St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy is located at 241 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn NY St. Joseph the Worker offers full and half-day programs of Pre -Kindergarten for 3 and 4 year old children, and a full day program for students in Kindergarten through grade 8. Private tours are available during school hours. 3 A wonderful way to surprise and delight your child/children is to have us wish them a Happy Birthday in our bulletin. If you would like this, please contact Debbie in the Rectory at least 3 weeks prior to the birthday because we often have to expedite bulletins due to holidays. Memorial Candles A few weeks ago candle renewal letters were mailed to all those who have perpetual candles in Church for their loved ones. If you have not received it due to our Postal Service unreliability please know that payments are due by the end of February. If you have not received it or are having difficulty, just let Debbie know and arrangements can be made. Thank you for your dedication to your loved ones and your Parish Family! FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME GOD S SUMMONS Confronted with God s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man. Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? Isaiah answered, Here I am, send me. We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what is unimportant and to accept your call to be God s messenger? 5 FEBRUARY 10, 2019 Non-Catholics are invited to join us in prayer. We kindly remind them not to come forward to receive Holy Communion. Catholics who are new to our Parish are asked to please introduce themselves to Fr. Chris after Mass. Registration may be done at the rectory during office hours or by dropping the parish membership form in the collection basket. Active parishioners are those who are registered, join us regularly for the celebration of the Mass and use the weekly donation envelopes. Only in this way can we issue documents attesting to Parish Membership and Catholic practice.
