O LORD, BE MY HELP Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mystery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have witnessed the devastation of life and property through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, Why? This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in today s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, Why? At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper. All baptisms at Holy Spirit take place during regular weekend liturgies. 4 First 13th Sunday in of Ordinary Advent - December Time July 3, 1, Wow! What an amazing weekend! The dedication on Friday night was awesome: beautiful liturgy, wonderful new Bishop, outstanding reception afterwards. I m still on a high. And the first weekend was just as spectacular! Larger crowds than usual! With our new building comes new staff members! IVAN DIAZ: - IT Media Director: Ivan will be handling all of the lighting and sound for all of our liturgies and special events, as well as keeping up our social media accounts. Ivan was born in California but grew up in Las Vegas. Before joining our staff, Ivan worked at Music Tribe, better known as Behringer. He is married to Damaris and has four children: Cash, 3, Chevy 9, Alyssa, 12 and Adrian, 14. ANTHONY BOLINO- Director of Maintenance: Anthony is originally from Brooklyn, New York, but has lived in Las Vegas for the past 16 years. Before coming to Holy Spirit, Anthony was employed in the maintenance department at Christ the King. He is married to Michelle and they have two children, John 13 and Brianna 11. GIOVANNI GUARINO - Maintenance Staff: Giovanni is also from Brooklyn, New York, and has lived in Las Vegas 17 years. He was a plumber back east and has worked at the Paris Hotel in the maintenance department. He is married to Debra and they have three children, Giovanni, 16 and 11-year-old twins Haiden and Hailee. AUSTEN SCHAFFER - Maintenance Staff: Many of you already know Austen, he has been one of our weekend Mass Coordinators, handling set up and sound at the Gorman cafeteria. Austen has joined the Maintenance Staff on a full-time basis. Austin is single and is in the U. S. Army Reserves. And, of course, we have another Ivan. IVAN LARA is the seminarian assigned to us for the summer. Ivan was born in Anaheim, California and moved to Las Vegas when he was 5. He attended local schools up through a three-year program at College of Southern Nevada (CSN). Ivan began his seminary career in August of 2017 as a sophomore in college at Mt. Angel Seminary (near Portland, Oregon). His home parish is St. Francis de Sales. Ivan s parents are Abel and Rosa and he has one older sister, Anel. Welcome to all! NEW BEGINNINGS A Ministry of Hope, Healing and Consolation For All Losses New Beginnings is a Bereavement Ministry designed to provide support to Christian individuals who have experienced traumatic loss in their lives. The grieving process can cause a sense of feeling disconnected, dismayed and can fill the individual with a sense of hopelessness and despair. New Beginnings offers several services that will gently accompany the bereaved and the parish community in their adjustment to the fact of loss and to the sorrow this entails. HOPE Catholic Funeral Mass Planning and Coordination Our faith reminds us of the sure and certain hope that our loved one who died in Christ will rise with him on the last day. A compassionate and non-judgmental funeral coordinator will guide you in planning a beautiful and meaningful funeral liturgy for your deceased loved one. Contact: Patti Fitzpatrick HEALING Grief Facilitation - Blessed are they who mourn; they shall be consoled (Matthew 5:3) ADULTS: This support group offers trained individuals to help the bereaved understand the process of grief. Individuals examine their feelings during this intense period and look at coping mechanisms to move through the process feeling guided and not alone. Bereaved individuals will receive resources and an opportunity to examine their experiences and share with others in a safe environment led by a facilitator. Contact: Susie Cram CHILDREN: This support group or 1:1 meeting with a compassionate and trained grief facilitator will offer resources and teach coping skills. Contact: Connie Theisen DIVORCE MINISTRY This workshop guided by divorced Christians uses discussion materials from the Divorce Recovery Workbook to offer support for divorced individuals. The focus is a positive psychology approach that helps attendees identify and build upon existing personal strengths to navigate through this difficult time and move toward healing and inner peace. Mother Seton Knights & Columbian Squires Fireworks Booth The SEAS Knights of Columbus and Columbian Squires will be selling TNT Fireworks at the corner of Durango and Charleston next to the Green Valley Grocery from June 28 through July 4. Proceeds will go toward community services, seminarian support, and the SEAS Youth Group summer travel expenses. When shopping for fireworks this year, please help the Knights and Squires support these great causes! Credit cards accepted. Marriage Preparation Information Night THURSDAY, JULY 19TH 7:00 p.m. Upper Room Engaged couples who have already been registered in the parish at least 6 months are invited to attend this meeting to begin their formal preparation to be married at Holy Spirit. At this meeting, you will get an overview of the program and receive guidelines for your wedding. If you are unable to attend on this date, the next monthly Marriage Preparation Information Night will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 7:00 p.m. NOTE: For couples who are already in the program who have not yet taken their FOCCUS inventory, please come at 6:45 p.m. to get instruction and get started before the Information Night begins. 9 HOLY SPIRIT NEW BEGINNINGS HAS ADDED A DIVORCE MINISTRY A workshop to support those who are divorced will be offered beginning on May 7 th and running for 11 weeks. Compassionate, Christian, divorced and trained facilitators and parishioners, Barb Fraser and Bob Clark, will use a positive psychology approach to help divorced individuals navigate through this difficult time and move toward healing and inner peace.
