Psalm Do not forget the works of the Lord! (Psalm 78). Second Reading Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped (Philippians 2:6-11). Then Jesus says, So must the Son of Man be lifted up, that all who believe may have eternal life in him. The evangelist clearly saw this lifting up of Jesus to mean his crucifixion. That lifting up of the serpent by Moses is described in today s first reading. The people were attacked by saraph serpents, and many died. God had Moses make an image of the serpent and put it on a pole and lift it up. The people who had been bitten looked at it and recovered. Jesus emptied himself, taking the form of a slave. Lifted up on the cross, he was despised and seemed the most abject of people. But it was in embracing this disgrace and painful death that he became the bearer of eternal life for all of us. Baptisms classes are held on the 2ND MONDAY of each month at 7:00 PM in the parish office trailer (located behind Gorman next to the tennis courts). All baptisms at Holy Spirit take place during regular weekend liturgies. For children over 6: Contact Len Urso, Director of Religious Education, for info on a special program for older unbaptized children. Registration packets are available in the office or at Mass. First Communion is a two-year program, beginning as early as first grade. Marriage: We now offer our own Marriage Prep Program at Holy Spirit; however, no weddings can be held at Holy Spirit until our church is built. The chapel at BGHS cannot be used for any weddings at all -- by decision of Bishop Pepe. Fr. Bill s preference is that the wedding ceremony be held at Christ the King. So several of our own Pharmacists from Holy Spirit have set up a weekend to administer flu shots. I am grateful to them for donating their time and expertise in providing this service to the parish. Bill spoke this weekend about how we are all part of a team, and I was struck by how very true that is of this community, and especially of our music ministry here at Holy Spirit! I am just coming up on my one-year anniversary with this wonderful community, and I feel grateful to be part of such a giving, spirit-filled parish and privileged to be able to pray with such an amazing and dedicated group of musicians! As we begin a new school year, it feels like a good time to acknowledge our musicians and to thank them for their service! Theirs are the voices and instruments that help support our assembly s song, and add so much fullness and beauty to our prayer, week after week! So, THANK YOU - to those who have served in music ministry since the parish began, and to the many who have joined us in this past year! Our team just keeps getting bigger and better how incredibly blessed we are!

5 by Deacon John Breeden 19 months ago I left Jamaica a changed man. My experience with Mustard Seed & its residents filled my heart with so much joy that I knew it would burst if I didn't find a way to go back-- the sooner the better. What unfolded over the next several months brought me much anxiety & fear, hope & joy. Would Fr. Bill support? Not only did he support, he signed up! Would enough missionaries volunteer & commit to raising the $1900 individual cost each to form a team? 10 minimum for a team & we had 13 committed before the first information night! Would the parish support the team? Holy Spirit parishioners were once again their amazingly generous souls supporting fundraisers that decreased each missionary's cost by $400 & helping us fill 25 suit cases of medicine, soap, arts and crafts, diapers etc. (over 1100 lbs) to donate to Mustard Seed! But my biggest fear was, what if our missionaries didn't fall in love with the residents like I did? I needn't have worried about that. On August 9th, a very nervous team leader & 22 anxious missionaries arrived late Saturday evening in Jamaica to GO.BE.LOVE. When Sunday morning rolled around, every one was up by 530. By 630 every missionary was downstairs meeting the residents & learning how to feed them & then push 16 of the residents in their wheelchairs to Mass. By midweek, I found myself stealing glances at our team in action--what a transformation! My heart once again was bursting with joy watching them love on the residents & receiving love in return. The love shared in the witness of each missionary opening their hearts to God's most precious children. As our time in Jamaica came to a close, every missionary was in agreement, a large chunk of their hearts would remain in Jamaica--just like the part I left there 19 months ago. Once again, I can't wait to go back-- keep an eye in the bulletin for news of Holy Spirit Mission Team(s) 2015 & consider becoming a missionary--it will change your life & your heart. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Our atrium sessions have begun! Thursday s 4:00 to 5:30 It has taken many people to get this amazing program running. We would like to take a moment to say thank you to all that have given your time and your talents to the children. From carpenters to people who have cut out small comets. There are people behind the scenes also Father Bill, the parish staff, all those who are connected with the life of the church. What you do will add to the rhythm, substance, and prayer life of the child. We can teach each of these children words and prayers but what they really need to know comes from their heart. Thank you for helping us to give these children a place to gather and have quiet time and nourish their relationship with God through Liturgy and the Bible.
