Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who see but cannot get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of the Law and prophets is summed up here on this mountain. The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to us this Sunday. As Paul reminds us, it is we who are to be transformed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set forth here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep. This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks to transformation. It asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord as our light and our salvation. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Baptisms classes are held on the 2ND MONDAY of each month at 7:00 PM in the parish office trailer (located behind Gorman next to the tennis courts). All baptisms at Holy Spirit take place during regular weekend liturgies. For children over 7: Contact Anna Forsberg, Director of Religious Education, for info on a special program for older unbaptized children. 1st Communion: Child must be registered in Religious Education at Holy Spirit. Registration packets are available in the office or at Mass. First Communion is a two-year program, beginning as early as first grade. Blessing of Unborn Children The church welcomes with joy and compassion the mothers who, recognizing that all life is a gift from God, come to the Church seeking a blessing for their unborn child. Such a blessing sustains the parents by imparting grace and comfort in times of concern and need, unites the parish in prayer for the unborn child, and fosters respect for human life within society. The Rite will usually be conducted on the second weekend of each month: Next blessing will be on MARCH 12/13. RCIA An Affair of the Heart Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process which prepares persons for reception into the Catholic Church. 4 Second Sunday of Lent - February 21, 2016 Congratulations to us for reaching a milestone in our Capital Campaign, Building God s House, Our Home. On Friday, February 12, we came very close to one-third of our goal! Our goal for Phase 1 the church building is set at $8,000, We are at $2,573, which is exactly 32% of goal. And, this is from only 198 donors. Here s some interesting math: That s an average of $13, per family/household! There are 2,350 families/households registered at Holy Spirit. If the remaining 2,152 families gave at that same rate, we would raise $28,000, enough to build both buildings! Of course that average won t be met! But here s some more realistic figures: 1. If the remaining 2,152 families gave $1, a year for three years for a total of a $3, pledge, we would raise an additional $6,456, and go over goal! 2. If the remaining 2,152 families gave the amount that I suggested in the letter I sent out to you, we would raise an additional $8,000, and be $2,000, over goal! 3. $1, a year is a little over $80.00 a month about $20.00 a week. Can t most of you afford that? 4. Many of you, I truly believe, can actually give more than $1, a year. Will you prayerfully consider that? Now, at this point, if you do not have a Pledge Form, please contact the office at 702-HLY-SPRT ( ) and talk to Katie at extension 102. And, if you have a Pledge Form and were told that someone would contact you to discuss that pledge, but that hasn t happened,, also please contact Katie at the same number and extension. We had hoped that we would have enough volunteers to give some of you your Pledge Form or visit with some of you who had, in fact, received your Pledge Form. Unfortunately, some of those who volunteered were not able to keep their commitment; and other volunteers have tried (often many times!) to contact parishioners and have not been successful; in many cases, it was a situation of phone tag each side missing the other; in other cases, it was simply a matter of no response from voice mail or messages left. But we do need you! As stated above, the first 198 pledges have been extraordinarily wonderful. But 198 is only 8% of the parish! Surely, we can do better than that! I m positive that all of us want a church and don t want to stay forever in the Gorman Cafeteria. But this will only happen, if we get full participation from as many of our families/households as possible. Please prayerfully consider a sacrificial pledge. Page 4 NEW BEGINNINGS A Ministry of Hope, Healing and Consolation New Beginnings is a Bereavement Ministry designed to provide support to Christian individuals who have experienced traumatic loss in their lives. The grieving process can cause a sense of feeling disconnected, dismayed and can fill the individual with a sense of hopelessness and despair. New Beginnings offers several services that will gently accompany the bereaved and the parish community in their adjustment to the fact of death and to the sorrow this entails. HOPE Catholic Funeral Mass Planning and Coordination - Our faith reminds us of the sure and certain hope that our loved one who died in Christ will rise with him on the last day. A compassionate and non-judgmental funeral coordinator will guide you in planning a beautiful funeral liturgy for your deceased loved one. You will be assisted in choosing Scripture readings and hymns that express our Christian hope in Christ s saving death and resurrection. Contact: Patti Fitzpatrick HEALING Grief Facilitation - Blessed are they who mourn; they shall be consoled (Matthew 5:3) This support group offers trained individuals to help the bereaved understand the process of grief. In these classes, individuals examine their feelings during this intense period and look at coping mechanisms to move through the process feeling guided and not alone. The service has structured classes on various topics and also offers sessions for participants to examine their experiences and share with others in a safe environment led by a facilitator. Contact: Susie Cram CONSOLATION Helping the Bereaved - If one member suffers in the body of Christ which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member (1 Cor. 12:26) When a member of Christ s Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love. This is an inservice offered to help individuals who are close to, work with, or know someone who has suffered a loss, but who are not sure how to help the bereaved. The instructor will teach the participants the stages of grief, describe normal grief behavior and share ways to journey with the individual they want to help or support. Contact: Susie Cram

5 Sponsor couples needed for Holy Spirit Marriage Prep Program Holy Spirit s For Better And Forever Marriage Preparation program is in need of several more Sponsor couples. Sponsor couples are married couples trained to journey with engaged couples as they prepare for lifelong commitment of marriage. Sponsor couples provide for the engaged a working example of a married couple doing lifelong marriage. A couple who is trained to serve as a sponsor couple must acknowledge that their life experience of living lifelong marriage is the primary experience they bring to the task of sponsorship. Their training is mostly about clarifying the limits of their role and some tips on how to interact with engaged couples as adults. 6 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Welcome to the Atrium Religious Education for 3-5 year olds Prayer with Children Teresa Chisholm CGS Coordinator Classes are held Thursday 4:00-5:30pm in The Gathering Place As parents, we find that we pray often and earnestly for our children. We ask God to keep them safe, to make them well, and to help us as we care for them. But there is another gift of prayer that comes to us: the gift of praying with our children. There is a big difference between a child s prayer and that of an adult. It is precisely this difference that makes it such a privilege to pray with little children in the Atrium. They lead us to an enjoyment of God that we may have been missing. When allowed to pray naturally, their simple words come straight from the heart. Take time this week to enjoy prayer with your child. Whether at bedtime, before meals, in the car or while enjoying the park. And follow their example of speaking simply and honestly to our Lord about what is on your heart.
