HOLY NAME: Meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month at the 8:30 AM Mass (Sept.-June) followed by a meeting. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY: The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on Thursdays at 2PM in the church. We are in need of folks who wish to share their craft with this ministry. We invite you to join us whenever possible.

Your amazing generosity goes a long way in helping to support many parish activities. Prayer Shawl Ministry: meets on Thursdays at 2PM in the church (weather permitting). Please join us. All levels of skill are welcome. ST. JOSEPH FOOD PANTRY: The pantry is open on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8PM for our neighbors in need (located in rectory conference room). Donations may be brought to Mass on Saturday/Sunday. Thank you for your support with all non-perishable food items and cash donations. Memorial Donation: The Altar Bread and Wine for the week of February 11th has been donated in memory of Joseph Pacetti. If you would like to make a donation for the altar bread and wine for a week in memory of a loved one or for a special intention, the donation for the week is $25.00 for the bread and $25.00 for the wine. Weekly Collection Report February 3 & 4, 2018 Envelopes $ Loose $ Total $ This weeks second collection is the monthly Parish Maintenance Collection. Thank you for your continued generous support! ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of fast and abstinence. FRIDAYS OF LENT are also days of abstinence. FASTING is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. ABSTINENCE is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

By studying the sufferings of Jesus and the actions of the apostles we will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Resurrection. The course, taught by Barbara Sullivan, MTS, will be held Feb. 22, March 1, 8, 15 & 22. Suggested offering is $5/ session. No registration required just bring your Bible! For more info contact Joe Stevens at Meeting Christ in Prayer is an eight-week guided prayer experience based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola. By prayer, reflection and faith sharing Meeting Christ in Prayer can bring people to a new level of discipleship and to a renewed sense of Christian mission. The Meeting Christ in Prayer group meets once a week for eight weeks with Sister Anne D Arcy. Participants pray with suggested scripture texts daily. Program ends with Confirmation Sunday April 8 at 1pm Dates : 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/8 Confirmation Any baptized adult who has received First Communion but who has postponed the reception of Confirmation is invited to attend. Please note that the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary to be a godparent at baptism and to serve in church ministry. This sacrament is also highly recommended for those preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. ***A baptized Catholic, if married, is expected to be validly married in the Church prior to receiving Confirmation. Any questions regarding marriages, please consult your parish priest prior to registering What will the course be like? The course will introduce the adult learner to major aspects of the Catholic faith through the study of the mass which includes reflection on the sacraments, the creed, prayer and the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit essential to live the Christian life. The five weeks will be a chance to ask questions and move forward in faith. Please note attendance at the 5pm mass is part of the class experience. 4 FEBRUARY 11, 2018 BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG St. Joseph s BVM Sodality will be conducting their annual Baby Bottle Boomerang Campaign beginning Wednesday, Feb. 14 th and running through Palm Sunday, March 25 th. All funds raised from this worthwhile project are sent directly to Friends of the Unborn of Quincy and will aid them in their fight against abortion, along with educating the mothers and providing self-sufficient skills to them. This is a wonderful opportunity for sacrifice and fulfilling your Lenten obligation! Baby bottles can be picked up at most exits around the church and can be returned full of silent donations to the same areas. Thank you in advance for your part in making this important crusade a huge success! How Can You Help Increase Priestly Vocations? St Joseph's BVM Sodality has a program devoted to praying for priestly vocations. Families or individuals volunteer to take home a crucifix for one week and daily recite the prayer for vocations. This is a simple prayer to inspire men to serve God and His church and follow in His footsteps. There is a sign up sheet in the entrance of the church; Please choose the week you participate. When it is your designated week, pick up the crucifix in the sacristy on Saturday/ Sunday and sign it out. Please return and sign in by the 4 pm the following Saturday so it is available for the next family. Steven Boyle Feb. 18th Feb. 25th Mark Wilson CURSILLO - An Opportunity to Deepen Your Faith Archdiocese of Boston Men s and Women s Weekends Cursillo is a short course in Christianity. It is an encounter with Christ in a small community of the Church, in order to deepen your own faith and strengthen your ability to be witnesses of Christ in the world. The dates for the weekends are: Women s Weekend March 1-4, 2018 Men s Weekend April 26-29, 2018 The weekends run from Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon and are held at the Campion Center in Weston MA.
