2 2 N e w s & N o t e s Thinking of Becoming Catholic? If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program (RCIA) is for you. RCIA teaches people about our church and prepares them to become Catholic, if they wish. God often speaks to people through others especially their relatives and friends. Do you know someone who would like to learn more about God and about your Catholic faith? The program will begin in September. For more info call Altar Server Sign-up/Training Meeting Any students, in 5th grade or older, are welcome to become Altar Servers. All current servers should also fill out a sign up form if you wish to continue serving this school year. Altar server training will be held on Sunday, September 11th at 1:30pm for experienced servers and at 2:30pm for new servers. All altar servers must attend one of the training sessions. Visiting Missionary - Second Collection August 27 & 28 There will be a second collection this weekend for the School Sisters of St. Francis. Their mission is to live the Good News of Jesus as they minister to poor people around the world. They strive to be a source of new life, meaning, and hope as they work to build a just and peaceful world. St. Louis Preschool St. Louis Preschool is growing by leaps and bounds! Because of our growth we have opened up a new class time starting this year. We will be adding a 3-4 year old Tuesday/Thursday afternoon class from 12:00pm 2:55pm. Whittington invites everyone, especially high school youth, to the next monthly NOW service, 6:00pm - 8:30pm. Come and enjoy praise and worship, witness talks, small group time, adoration and prayer. This Mass will be shown live on EWTN. St. Louis Adoration Chapel The open hours that need a scheduled Adorer are: Sunday 8:00am, 10:00am; Thursday 1:00am, 2:00am. If you are able to fill an hour, call Christy Our Lady of Fatima reminds us to pray the Rosary daily in reparation for sin, for the conversion of sinners and especially for world peace. Our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is always open and you are invited to come and spend some personal time with our Lord. It is indeed a beautiful place to pray the rosary! Baptism Preparation Class The Baptism preparation class is for parents who are having their first child Baptized. The next class will be offered on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00pm in the Prickel Building. Please call the parish office to register Natural Family Planning A Natural Family Planning Class will be held on Sunday, September 11th, from 9:00am to 12:15pm in the Prickel Building. The candidate's sponsor and at least one parent should also attend. If a candidate and/or sponsor is unable to attend, please contact Amy Tonges at to make other arrangements. First Communion Meeting Parents of all 2nd graders who will be making their First Communion on May 7, 2017 should plan to attend the meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:45pm in the school cafeteria. This meeting is for parents only. Youth Fest 2016 All 7th-12th Graders are invited to St. Mary's in Greensburg for YouthFest 2016 on Saturday, September 10th! Our theme is Waves of Mercy, and we will have games, a service opportunity, raffle prizes, and praise and worship! Join us for Mass at 4:30. Registration follows from 5:30-6:30pm. The emcee for the evening will be Dave Gehrich! We will also have a Taco Bar! Seasons of Hope Come and be comforted. If you ve suffered the loss of a loved one, whether just recently or some time ago, please join us for a six week, Christ-centered program that will feature prayer, scripture, faith sharing and fellowship. The dates of the program are September 12th, 19th, 26th, October 3rd 10th and 17th from 6:30pm 8:30pm in the new cafeteria, St. Mary s, Greensburg. The Practice of The 3 Hail Marys for a Good Death involves praying three Hail Marys each morning and evening in honor of Mary s special privileges associated with the Holy Trinity. According to St. Mechtilde (13 century), Our Lady requested that each Hail Mary be prayed in honor of a particular Person of the Holy Trinity. The first is in honor of God the Father, Who raised Mary s soul high above every other creature. The second is in honor of God the Son, Who communicated His unsearchable wisdom to Mary. The third Hail Mary is in honor of God the Holy Spirit, Who filled Mary s soul with the sweetness of His tender love and mercy. Then, during an apparition to St. Gertrude - a pupil of St. Mechtilde - the Blessed Mother is said to have promised: To any soul who faithfully prays The Three Hail Marys, I will appear at the hour of death in a splendor of beauty so extraordinary that it will fill the soul with heavenly consolation. 5 Festival News Pies Needed After our festival sign-up weekends, we are still in need of pies. If you would be able to donate a pie or two, please call Diane Fullenkamp at Help Needed We will be washing dishes in the school kitchen, in preparation for the Parish Festival, on Tuesday, September 6th at 5:00pm. All are welcome to help. This is a great opportunity for students needing service hours! Turtle Soup Help Needed We will be cleaning vegetables for the first batch of turtle soup on Sunday, September 11th from 9:00am 12:00pm. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is also a great opportunity for service hours. Any questions call Mary Jo or Mike Beer Garden Attention Brother Knights - The worker list for the beer garden is posted at the Council Hall. Please sign up soon or contact Tom Fritsch Carry Out Dinners We are still in need of workers for carry out dinners. If you are able to help in this area, please contact Marilyn Freyer at Plastic Kroger bags are also needed for this booth. They can be dropped off at the parish office. Bushels of Baskets We are off to a great start, but we are still in need of baskets. As we begin to arrange baskets we are in need of many items. Cash donations are welcome as we will use this to purchase themed items and basket supplies. Items can dropped off at the parish office. With your help we look forward to another successful year with the Basket Booth. If you have any questions please call Wende Lambert, Country Store The Country Store will be in need of your donations of jellies, pickles, beets, salsa, or any other home canned goods you might have. If you don t make jelly or can vegetables, maybe you can bake some cookies, fudge, bread, pastries, cakes or pies. If you sew, think about making aprons, potholders, coasters, etc. If you crochet or knit, maybe consider making doilies, scarves, small lap blankets. If by chance you happen to have extra fresh garden produce, please consider donating it to the Country Store.
