2 2 N e w s & N o t e s Urgent Funeral Luncheon Helpers Needed We are in need of a few people to help set up and clean up for funeral luncheons. It is usually not a time consuming ministry, as we usually average funerals per year. It is very rewarding to be able to offer this service to families during a difficult time. If you are interested in helping with this ministry please call Carmie Meyer or Anita Brelage for more information. The Great Adventure Bible Timeline Study Group Fridays, starting August 11th from 9:00 10:30am An evening class will be added if there is enough interest. Jeff Cavins developed The Great Adventure to enable people to grasp the big picture of the Bible. By reading the narrative books, a chronological story emerges. The Bible Timeline program teaches the story in a way that is easy to remember and helps people to continue reading Scripture on their own. Come join us as we discover the big picture of God s plan in Scripture, see our place in that plan and live it out in our lives. To register please call the Parish Office at St. Louis Parish Council Elections The bios for the candidates running for Parish Council will be in the bulletin next weekend, July 22 & 23. Voting will take place al all Masses the weekend of July 29 & 30. You can also submit a ballot at the parish office on Monday, July 31. St. Louis Athletic Board Fundraiser - Bill Giltz Memorial Golf Outing The 15th Annual Bill Giltz Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at North Branch Golf Course in New Point on Monday, July 31st. Registration and lunch at 11:00am, shotgun start at 12:00pm. The event is open to everyone and will be played as a 4-person handicap scramble. The entry fee is $90 per player which includes greens fee, cart fee, lunch, dinner, beverages and raffle. The proceeds go directly to the Bill Giltz Memorial Fund which helps support the St. Louis Athletic Program. Entries must be received by July 26th. Gary is an international tour guide and will share photos and stories from recent trips. Gary will also focus a portion of the travel program about the pros and cons of his past trips with tourists to North Korea, including some spectacular photography. Gary is a native of Batesville. His brother Author/Editor Fr. Jack Wintz, OFM, will join the show and looks forward to seeing old friends. Baptism Preparation Class The Baptism preparation class is for parents who are having their first child Baptized. The next class will be offered on Tuesday, July 18th at 7:00pm in the Deanery Resource Center at St. Louis. Please call the parish office to register Natural Family Planning A Natural Family Planning Class will be held on Sunday, August 6th, from 9:00am to 12:15pm in the Deanery Resource Center at St. Louis. There is a $40.00 fee for books and materials. Please use caution when in this area. Fr. Stan s Book Club The book, Out of The Silent Planet, by C.S. Lewis is available in the parish office. The suggested donation is $7 per book. MARY OF NAZARETH Child of God, Mother of Jesus and Spouse of the Spirit All Saints Parish is hosting a fantastic display incorporating images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Several of the images are on loan from St. Meinrad Seminary & School of Theology and the University of Dayton. Come and be inspired! This traveling exhibit will be at all three festivals (St. John, Dover- July 15th & 16th, St. Martin, Yorkville- July 29th & 30th, St. Paul, New Alsace - August 12th & 13th) Saturdays 5:00pm-9:00pm and Sundays 11:00am-6:00pm. Entrance to the exhibit is FREE to the general public. The St. John Festival is the only exhibit that is handicap accessible. All are welcome! EWTN's Free Family Celebration It's an event you won't want to miss! EWTN's FREE Family Celebration event is back at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 9th & 10th, with talks by your favorite EWTN television and radio hosts. We will meet for six Mondays beginning on September 11th and continuing on September 18, 25, October 2, 9, and 16, with arrival at 6:30pm and the program from 6:45pm to 8:30pm at the new Parish Campus St. Mary s, Greensburg. Rachel's Vineyard Retreat for Healing After Abortion If you are suffering from a past abortion there is hope for healing. God's love and mercy are bigger than your pain. A Rachel's Vineyard Retreat will be held in Central Indiana July 28, 29, and 30. The retreat is open to anyone who has had an abortion, helped someone get an abortion, or who has suffered because of an abortion by a friend or family member. 7 Pa r i s h Fe s t i va l News S u n d ay, S e p t e m b e r 17 t h Festival Sign-up Weekends Mark your calendar for July 22 & 23 and July 29 & 30. Please plan on attending one of these times to sign up to work at our parish festival. Help is needed setting up tents, making Turtle Soup the week before the festival, workers for the day of the festival, and clean up and take down after the festival. PLEASE come pick up your raffle tickets and sign up to work. This will save time and money. Also, pray for good weather and a successful festival. We are in need of help to set up the tents Tuesday before the festival and take them down on Monday after the festival. It is not something a few people can do, many people are needed to get this accomplished. Please consider helping with this important task. Chairpersons Needed We are in need of volunteers to chair the $100 Wheel and Bingo. If you can help with either of these games, please call Nikki Hutchinson at Country Store The Country Store will be in need of your donations of jellies, pickles, beets, salsa, or any other home canned goods you might have. If you don t make jelly or can vegetables, maybe you can bake some cookies, fudge, bread, pastries, cakes or pies. If you sew, think about making aprons, potholders, coasters, etc. If you crochet or knit, maybe consider making doilies, scarves, small lap blankets. If by chance you happen to have extra fresh garden produce, please consider donating it to the Country Store. Bushels of Baskets Thanks to everyone who donated items to last year s successful booth! As we begin to arrange baskets we are in need of many items. Some ideas for themed baskets: cleaning supplies; all things kitchen; gift wrap; laundry supplies; party/tailgate; family movie night; car wash; beach party; handyman basket; all things candles. We ask that your donations be new or hand-made items only. Cash donations are welcome as we will use this to purchase themed items and basket supplies. Items can dropped off at the parish office. With your help we look forward to another successful year with the Basket Booth. Plant Stand The Plant Stand is in need of pots of all sizes, plants and lawn decorations for their booth. Clay pots are great if anyone has some to spare. Pots can be dropped off on the front porch of the parish office. If you have any plants at home getting too big for the pot they are in, consider splitting them and donating them to the plant stand. Plants are not needed until the Festival. Jars for Turtle Soup Clean, quart, half gallon and gallon jars may be dropped off on the front porch of the parish office. Jars that are not true quart, half gallon and gallon size, cannot be used for turtle soup. Please help by removing the labels and glue from the outside of the jars. Raffle Tickets If you can help stuff raffle tickets for our mailing please contact the parish office at Time and dates are flexible.

8 8 T u r t l e S o u p FESTIVAL HELP Church Festival Sunday, September 17th Turtle Soup is made the entire week prior to our church festival. For anyone interested, and to inform our new parishioners, the Turtle Soup Committee would greatly appreciate and invite anyone, man, woman, or high school student to lend a hand. 13 batches of soup (55 gallons/batch) are made during the week. Vegetables are cleaned on Monday and Wednesday mornings, beginning at 7:30am. There are no set shifts, but to schedule your help throughout the day, the times below can be used. Even an hour of your time is greatly appreciated!
