3 Staff Reflections As I sit in my office wri ng the staff reflec on, it is t minus two weeks from Christmas. Yet, this is the note I just saw the other day Plan Lent Themes. Ha. But wait there is a wonderful message in the ming of that! Our beau ful Advent Blue meets the Purple of Lent. Our Silent Night meets Go To Dark Gethsemane. What a great reminder for us. The child that was wrapped in swaddling cloths and placed in a manger was the child that would grow, be stripped of his clothes, and hung on a cross. We would not be celebra ng Christmas if it were not for Good Friday. Moreover, we would not remember Good Friday if it were not for Easter. As you come off your Christmas celebra on, hear the announcement from the angels in Luke 2 from the perspec ve of Good Friday! But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that is for all people. For unto you is born this day a Savior, Christ the Lord. As you come off your Christmas celebra ons, hear the song of the angels from the perspec ve of Easter! Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests Now, like the shepherds, go and see this Good News of great joy. Join us in church! Join our Elders in their reading plan. All of these are opportuni es to look into the manger, focus on the cross, and dance out the empty tomb with the song of salva on as your music. In addi on, like the shepherds, go into your homes, families, neighborhoods, careers go into your hopes, your dreams, your anxie es, your fears.go into your present and your future, things that seem far and things that are near glorifying and praising God for all thing things you see and hear. That is a journey that I am excited to join you on! We Have Seen His Glory! 6 Beginning Sunday, January 7, 9:20 am HEROES OF THE FAITH In an age where we have more superhero movies than we do new original stories in the box office, it is easy to see the fascination people have with a superhero. They are easy to root for, they are so noble and their cause is to help save as many people from terrible enemies as possible. The green screen saviors though have nothing on our heroes of the faith! Come and participate with DCE Josh Heirigs as we delve into different biblical heroes! LIFE VERSE As we continue our theme of "Family of Believers: In the Word" this class will take us into God's Word to listen to what He has to say. A "Life Verse" is a passage from God's Word that can help a person follow God in the special way that God has called them. This passage may guide a person throughout their life or through a certain time, but it is always a blessing. Whether you already have a Life Verse or if you would like to find yours for the first time; this class will be a time of rich reflection and blessing! ESTHER Times are tough: political power struggles, jealousy, sexual harassment, discrimination. Sound familiar? Join Virginia Miller as we explore the book of Esther together to see how the Lord uses us in "just a time as this." 7 In Loving Memory... JOHN RANDALL John A. Randall was born on June 25, 1933, in Rochester to Warren and Marie. On March 25, 1955, John was given the robe of righteousness and claimed as God s son for eternity through the waters of His baptism. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1951, where he excelled in sports, especially wrestling. On November 21, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Germaine. The couple moved to Cape May, NJ, where John served in the US Coast Guard for two years. Following his service he completed his education at the University of Minnesota and the School of Physical Therapy at Mayo Clinic. When he retired, he was Supervisor of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Family was an important part of John s life and he was blessed to be the father of three daughters, the grandfather of eight grandchildren, and the great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren. On Thursday, November 16, John passed away in his home, surrounded by His family, completely at peace with His savior, and waiting to see Jesus face to face. Let us, like John, live each day with a smile on our face thinking about what it will be like to see Jesus face to face. MARILYN MONSRUD Marilyn Kay Hasley was born January 13, 1941, in Rochester, MN, to Raymond and Helen. She graduated from Rochester High School in On July 16, 1960, she married Kenneth Monsrud. After being a homemaker she worked for the McDonalds Corporation for 32 years. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, playing Bingo, and most of all she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. On November 17, 2017, she died suddenly in her home with her husband by her side. Her Good Shepherd was there too. Just 4 months ago he reconnected her to a church that she called home at Redeemer and she came every weekend since. It was there that she heard again the good news of the Gospel and the hope of life everlasting with Jesus. So, on November 17, her Good Shepherd came and took her home. In memory of Marilyn let us be an active part of our families lives and be ready to open our home up to anyone that just needs a little love. LYLE VOIGHT Lyle Fredrick Voight was born on July 2, 1948, in Arlington, Minnesota, to Fredrick and Erna. On July 25 of that same year Lyle was given an inheritance that would never spoil or fade and the assurance of the resurrection through the waters of his baptism. He grew up in Arlington and moved to Rochester in the late 1980 s. In 1991, Lyle moved to Hayfield where he worked for the Hayfield Window Company. On June 21, 1997, he married Kathleen Gross at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Lyle enjoyed building things with his hands and loved his church family at Redeemer where he served as an usher and greeter. On Tuesday, November 28, at the age of 69, Lyle passed away at the Field Crest Care Center in the hope and assurance of his eternal home. In honor of Lyle, let us worship every weekend with a desire to hear the Good News of Jesus and, let us get here early to encourage and welcome others as they come in. TERRY ELLERMAN Terry Ellerman was born in Waseca, MN, on May 26, 1950, to Ronald and Anita. The family later moved to Rochester and Terry graduated from John Marshall High School in After graduation, he entered the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Higbee until being honorably discharged in Later in life, he worked at several Rochester hotels and Home Depot. Terry was an active member of the VFW post 1215 in Rochester, serving on their Honor Guard. He was also active in veterans causes, assisting in fundraising for memorials. After surviving a heart attack, thanks to an AED, he was active in promoting of these devices. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. On Saturday, December 2, Terry died in his home. Page 7
