In July, we remember Esther, who Made Him Known even when it meant taking a risk. WELCOME VISITORS We have printed out our worship service to make it easier for all of us to follow. We will also hear of Peter literally stepping out in faith. What happens when we step out in faith? 4 869 7 th Avenue SE Rochester, MN When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" 15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 "Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish." 17 So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther's instructions. 5 1 On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace, in front of the king's hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hall, facing the entrance. 2 When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold scepter that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. 3 Then the king asked, "What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you." 7 1 So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet, 2 and as they were drinking wine on the second day, the king again asked, "Queen Esther, what is your petition? It will be given you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted." 3 Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life this is my petition. And spare my people this is my request. 4 For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king." Esther 4:12-5:3, 7:1-4 NIV L: This is the Word of the Lord. THIS SUNDAY Summer Caroling Please join the choir in providing music ministry to a few nursing homes this Sunday! We will be going to: Samaritan Bethany on 8th St. NW and Golden Living East on 8th Ave. SE (Down from the church) We will sing while the residents eat. At Samaritan Bethany the lunch is from 11-12:30. They have multiple floors with smaller eating areas. The group traveling there will get to move around a bit from floor to floor. Please meet in the narthex at 10:45 am. At Golden Living East lunch is at 12:30 in the Dining room and one other floor. Please meet in the narthex at 12:10 pm. Thank you for taking part in ministering to the people of these nursing homes! JOIN US FOR PIZZA! Attention Softball players, families, and fans! A Special Voters Meeting has been called for 6 pm on Tuesday, July 28, to decide if we should authorize the Church Council to purchase the property north of church should it still be available for a fair price. SEMINARIAN ERIC HAUAN AND FAMILY ARE COMING!!! Please join us for Pizza on Thursday, July 30, at 4:30 pm in the South Fellowship Hall to encourage, pray for, and talk with Seminarian Eric Hauan and his family. We are blessed to have one of our own members at the Seminary let s show him our support. Eric just finished his vicarage year (internship) and is preparing for his final year at the seminary. Please sign up at the welcome center if you are planning to join us for Pizza. OFFICE RENOVATION HAS BEGUN - The plans are posted on the wall next to the church office. Thanks for your understanding that we will have some disruptions during the next several weeks. The project is supposed to be done by Labor Day. 2 Week of

KITCHEN UPGRADES Please note the Fellowship Hall kitchen will be undergoing some renovations August 3-15 and be unavailable for use. Workers will be installing new flooring and doing some much needed plumbing updates. Any questions, please contact the church office. WE STILL HAVE OPEN DATES! There are still a couple of opportunities to serve refreshments between services this summer! If you are available and willing August 23 or 30 Please contact the church office ( ) RUMMAGE SALE - Start saving your items for the Rummage Sale this Fall, September18, 19. But, don t bring them to the church just yet; we ll let you know when. Also, we will need help setting up, helping the day of the sale and putting down. The proceeds benefit all of us. FALL PLANNING SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS! Where did Summer go! Sunday school will be starting back up in just a few weeks! If you have served as a teacher in the past or are interested in serving for the first time please let Michael Harvey know! We are always looking for great new teachers and we love setting up teaching teams so that teachers are supported and have some flexibility! Sunday school needs you! CONFIRMATION FOR 7 9 GRADERS! Confirmation classes will begin Wednesday, September 9 (Note date change!), 6:10pm- 7:30pm! The first night parents are to accompany their confirmand to class. Before confirmation starts Michael Harvey will sit down and meet with the families of the 7 th graders or those who will be just starting confirmation. Pastor Koglin will be sitting down with the families of those that have completed their first year of confirmation. The sooner we can start meeting the better. We will be in touch but it is a great help if you connect with us to set up a time to meet. Michael Harvey will be the lead teacher this year and Pastor Koglin will facilitate 1 st communion. Pastor Heining will teach the 9th grade class. PEER MINISTRY TRAINING The next Peer Ministry training event will take place August 6-9 at Camp Omega. At this event we will train in our third class of Peer Ministers. Our current peer ministers have been doing some very special ministry at Redeemer and out in Rochester at their schools, work and friend groups! If you are an adult interested in helping to develop youth leaders or if you are a youth who values caring for those around you talk to Michael Harvey about how you can be involved in this ministry! 3 Week of

12 PRACTICAL SIMPLE OUTREACH Keep it Natural: Our VBS skits were perfect this year. There was a missionary from Minnesota climbing mount Everest and interacting with people along the way. These skits showed and reminded us that evangelism can be simple and natural. In our natural conversations about dreams, hopes, events, life, culture, pain, etc. there are so many natural ways to share the Gospel. You do not need to go out of your way, change the subject, or be awkward. Simply talk with people and watch for opportunities to bring Jesus good news naturally into the conversation! Live your normal everyday lives with Gospel intentionality Outreach made simply practical! The G.T.O Team STEPHEN MINISTRY ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER... In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul writes, Therefore encourage one another and build each other up... Encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. God has called us all to build up and encourage one another. For those who are experiencing a really difficult time, our Stephen Ministers can provide the special encouragement, care, and support they need until they are past the crisis. 13 ATTENTION CAREGIVERS! Plan ahead to attend! Save the date! The Caregiver Connections Expo will be held Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19 at a new location: the Canadian Honker Events at Kahler Apache ( th ST SW, Rochester, MN). Plan to attend this wonderful event that provides education, support, resources and advocacy to empower caregivers and those in their care. Tuesday, August 18, :30 pm Cost: $25 Attend the kick-off dinner with nationally recognized keynote speaker Elaine Sanchez, Helping people find hope, humor and heart in caregiving. Space is limited. Wednesday, August 19, :00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost: $10 Community resources, vendor exhibits and informational presentations. Light breakfast and lunch included. Stay safe this summer, so you don t become a statistic in Olmsted County. Outdoor activities are the best part of summer, but also pose an additional fall risk to everyone, not just the older adult. If you are in the yard, playing games, or walking through a grassy park, be aware that the ground is often uneven, and the smallest dip/hole that has been dug by an animal, can create a fall hazard. Always wear good shoes when in the grass/yards. When gardening, be aware of bending over in gardens can cause you to lose your balance especially if for sustained periods of time. When you are out walking on paths, be aware of dips and uneven concrete/asphalt. Rain can create slippery surfaces. Do not text or use mobile devices while walking. Uneven sidewalks, items laying in path of your walkway, lack of awareness of surroundings, all increase risk of falls. Doing outdoor home improvement creates its own hazards using ladders, reaching high to wash windows, lawn mowing (keep self-propelled lawn equipment at a speed that works with your gait). 5 Week of

14 Youth Highlights! Youth Softball! Games Next Game July 29 at 6 pm All games are at Slatterly Park. NOTE: After this game they will have pizza for players and fan! Next Peer Ministry Training - The next peer ministry training event is August 6-9. If you are interested, please talk to Michael Harvey. We are going to ValleyFair! - We have scheduled a trip to ValleyFair on Friday, August 14. We will plan to leave Redeemer at 8:30 am and return around 8 pm. The cost is $40. This includes your transportation, admission, and lunch. Parents: we will need your help to drive! Look for the sign-up sheet on Youth Board. Youth Web Page: The Redeemer youth group, thanks to the help of Abby Kuisle, is working to build a better online/social presence. Go to the Redeemer page and follow the link toward the top left. You will see blog posts, Instagram photos and tweets. If you want to add to this let us know! NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING 2016! New Orleans This once every three years event is an amazing opportunity for the youth of Redeemer. The National Youth Gathering will be next summer, July but the full trip will have us gone for a day span. An interest sheet will be up on the youth bulletin board. This trip is a big undertaking and those that attend will need to be an active part of many fundraisers and must make the sharing service after the event a priority! Psalm 37:4 Scholarship: This scholarship, formed in memory of Josh Evers, is available to all youth! Its purpose is to allow youth to attend youth events that they are unable to afford otherwise. Lowell Mason is known as America's first music educator and taught in Boston. He published hymns and organized singing schools. In his me, the following were six points to summarize church music: 1 church music must be simple, chaste, correct, and free of ostenta on. 2 the text must be handled with as much care as the music; each must enhance the other. 3 congrega onal singing must be promoted. 4 capable choirs and judiciously used instruments, par cularly the organ, are indispensable aids to the service. 5 a solid music educa on for all children is the only means of genuine reform in church music. 6 musicianship per se is subordinate to facilita ng worship.
