To know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19 For the program year, Redeemer s theme is, Family of Believers. This phrase is also a part of our mission statement, and I believe with all my heart that Redeemer truly is a family in every sense of the word. And I do mean every sense of the word! Families get along and bicker. Families agree and disagree. Families act responsibly and irresponsibly. Families are welcoming, warm and caring and also the opposite. Whenever you gather a group of sinful humans together and unite them, you are going to see the very best and very worst of what family can be. Redeemer is an imperfect, healthy family. Redeemer has gathered together and as a family, called Pastor Koglin to serve as our next Administrative Pastor. We did this together! Some of you reading this may disagree because you were not in the room. In truth, if you lifted this call up in your prayers, you have had a strong voice in this family decision. We did this together. As I write this, Pastor Koglin is prayerfully seeking God s lead on whether to accept this, call or not. By the time you read this maybe he will have announced his answer. If he accepts, he will be the imperfect Administrative Pastor for an imperfect family. This is not the normal way a staff reflection goes. This one seems like it was written by Eeyore or Oscar the Grouch. Let s bring it back to Ephesians 3:19, the text our 2017 Stewardship theme is based on. To know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19 This text becomes sweet and rich when we know and admit that we are imperfect individually and as a whole. A perfect family would have no need for the incomprehensible love of Christ nor would it desire to be filled with the fullness of God. An unbelieving family would not even know that this great love and fullness even existed. We are a Family of Believers. Imperfect, sure, but a Family of Believers none the less. As an imperfect family, made up of imperfect individuals, led by imperfect leaders and an imperfect pastor, there is a lot of room for love and forgiveness to shine! Together we receive the perfect love of Christ shown in the most impossible way on the cross. Together as a family, we are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God. As a family, the love and fullness we receive we freely pour into those around us. It is good to be a Family of Believers. At Redeemer we are about ministry more than money. Yes, we need to pay for the building, the workers, the programs, etc. As a family, we do not start with the money. We start at the cross, and more than anything, we want to let everyone know the great love and fullness we have. We cannot help but share the fullness of God s blessings. As a family, any offering we give is because we see how much God has given us and how He is working in our family. We give as a family. My family gives as a part of the Redeemer family because together we can do so much more than we can alone. Family of Believers here at Redeemer, I am so excited for the future! Our family is ready to do great things that God has prepared in advance for us to do. I am ready to share God s blessings. I know my family at Redeemer is ready too! Michael Harvey, Director of Faith Development

9 Sunday Adult Bible Classes Beginning on Sunday, November 20, at 9:20 am The Gospels: What About Those Disciples? Where does each Gospel writer leave the relationship with Jesus and His disciples and how does this impact our walk of discipleship today? It is freeing to see that the Gospels are okay with leaving the disciples with doubt and questions. They didn t have it all figured out and look what God did through them! Pastor Koglin is blessed to facilitate this conversation. Sticky Faith: I have had parents speak to me in tears about adult children who no longer go to church. My heart goes out to them. As parents, we desire that our child(ren) will stay connected to a family of Christ and pass that faith onto their family. This class will work through the concepts put forth by Kara Powell and Chap Clark in their book Sticky Faith. We will also get real with this. If all it took was for us to read a book to make something happen, the world would not have many problems. The book will be a springboard for us to jump into real life. I hope you join us, this class may just have eternal benefits for you and your child. Michael Harvey will lead this class. Life Skills in 5 Steps Be part of this class where you will be equipped, empowered, and energized! All these skills are offered to our Christ Care leaders through their training, but we've found that these skills have applications to many aspects of a person's work life, church life, and home life. Come join us for a hands-on five weeks of expanding your life skills: Week 1: Go deeper with your Bible study and community building Week 2: Hone your listening skills and practice the art of keeping confidences Week 3: Find ways to build membership Week 4: Take part in a faith sharing activity Week 5: Bring more meaning to your prayer and worship life Paul Collopy and Paula Muth will lead this class. ADVENT SUPPERS Will be on Wednesday evenings: November 30, December 7 and 14. This is always a great time of fellowship. Join us in the Fellowship Hall from 5:00-6:30 pm. Health Notes NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL PALLIATIVE AND HOSPICE MONTH Palliative and hospice is a difficult subject but an important topic for a family conversation. As Health care needs change, palliative care and hospice are some of the options available to help you and your family. It is important to understand that palliative and hospice care are not synonymous, though some organizations provide both. PALLIATIVE CARE is a patient- and family-centered care that optimizes quality of life by anticipating, preventing and treating suffering including pain and other symptoms of disease. Some of the diseases included are cancer, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), kidney disease, Alzheimer s, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Symptoms may include depression, pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping and much more. *It is important to know that one DOES NOT have to forgo curative treatment or have a terminal diagnosis to receive palliative care. HOSPICE CARE is a specialized kind of palliative care for those facing a life-limiting illness, their families and their caregivers. It is provided when a cure is not possible. During hospice care, the primary goal is to have the best quality of life possible. The Hospice team: Addresses the physical emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families Provides Care to keep the patients as free of pain and troublesome symptoms and as comfortable as possible so they can make the most of the time that remains. Advance care planning is making decisions about the care one would want to receive if he/she becomes unable to speak for himself/herself. Page 13

16 Rummage Sale Highlights Rummage Sale Thank You The 2016 Redeemer Annual Fall Rummage Sale was a HUGE success. The success comes from those who brought donations; from those who purchased items; and from those volunteer workers who spent many, many hours prior, during, and after the sale. The sale was organized by Sarah Circle with over 70 people (at last count) volunteering to set up, to sort, hang, fold, mark, straighten, sell, serve as cashiers or carryout! Donated items started coming in Sunday afternoon, September 18 and continued Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with the day and a half sale starting at 7 a.m. Friday, September 23, and 8 a.m. Saturday, September 24. At the end of the sale Saturday noon, volunteers bagged and boxed all remaining items for distribution to NP Community (formerly Rochester Outreach Center) and then proceeded with clean up of fellowship halls and resetting tables and chairs. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Redeemer projects and mission outreach. We thank Redeemer members who contributed in any way either volunteering, donating, purchasing and/or by prayer. `Delores McGillivray Prayer Vigil for America November 7th from 8 am to 8 pm TO BE HELD IN THE SANCTUARY. PLEASE USE THE EAST (LIBRARY) DOOR. Sign up for a specific period of time at the Welcome Center or simply come at your convenience. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" Psalm 33:12 "Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the omnipotent muscle of God" Charles Spurgeon Election day is Tuesday, November 8th. Our country has never before been faced with such tremendous problems both from within and without.. "for the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside unto myths." 2 Timothy 4:3-4 With the insanity of "politically correct" thinking, the rise of ISIS, nuclear power in the hands of enemy governments, the legalization of gay marriage, the continued demand for a woman's right to "choose" ( now leading to a push for assisted suicide)...not to mention embracing diversity and freedom in all areas except Christianity...the list goes on...truly, the real enemy is not a person or political party, but Satan and his dark forces that oppose God and fight against the truth. The enemy's goal is to steal, kill and destroy, and he wants nothing more than to see us waste our energy and time just battling each other, or that we would succumb to worry, fear or defeat so that we will grow weary and simply tune out. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" Ephesians 6:12 Headline news stories can often incite fear and worry as we think about the future. We don't have all the answers, and we feel powerless to change all that we believe needs to be changed. As we look around, dark days and evil seems to be winning...but God's Word still remains true. He's the Answer. He is the Light that breaks through the darkness. He's the ONE who sets free and has the power to restore our nation. "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." 2 Corinthians 10:4 "It is God who changes the times and the seasons. He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning" Daniel 2:21 "If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 Page 16

17 Creation Corner The Creation Conference the first weekend in October went very well. Dr. Rob Carter from Creation Ministries International was the speaker and he was GREAT!! We had 63 people at Redeemer on Saturday evening. We had 91 people at Grace on Sunday evening. I hope everyone at Redeemer understands the importance of this topic and why everyone should be able to address it. The Bible says to always be ready to give an account of the hope that is in you...and if you have ever witnessed to someone, this topic will come up VERY quickly and because people outside the faith understand why this so important. Mathew 22: Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? 37 And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Notice that mind is included and to honor that command we should know what we believe and why we believe it because the world will challenge it. This can and does also cause doubt within us if we don't have answers. We live in a world full of resources...please don't waste them. Avail yourselves of them... 1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect. There are answers to give, and we just need to know them. The Bible is true from the very first verse...genesis 1:1. See what people outside the church recognize that we often fail to... Christianity has fought, still fights, and will fight science to the desperate end over evolution, because evolution destroys utterly and finally the very reason Jesus earthly life was supposedly made necessary. Destroy Adam and Eve and the original sin, and in the rubble you will find the sorry remains of the Son of God. Take away the meaning of His death. If Jesus was not the Redeemer that died for our sins, and this is what evolution means, then Christianity is nothing. G. Richard Bozarth, The Meaning of Evolution, American Atheist, 20 Sept. 1979, p. 30 Remember...in Christianity there are no spectators...so GET IN THE GAME!! Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
