1 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN Redeemer Lutheran Church The Resurrection Of our Lord Bring i Home Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you. Luke 8:39 Sunday, April 20, :45 am Sunday, April 20, :15 am Our Mission Statement: As Christians based on the solid foundation of God s Word, empowered by the Holy Spirit we strive to live out, lift up, and share our faith in Jesus Christ welcoming all into our family of believers. Goal: We will challenge each individual and each group in the congregation to grow in living out, lifting up, and sharing their faith in Jesus Christ. WELCOME VISITORS We have printed out our worship service to make it easier for all of us to follow. Hymns are found in the hymn section of the Lutheran Service Book or in Worship & Praise, the purple supplement. Please visit our Welcome Center in the narthex for additional information about Redeemer. HOLY COMMUNION is offered in all services on this special day. As always, we invite and encourage those to commune who acknowledge their sinfulness, recognize that Christ s body and blood are truly present for our forgiveness, and are willing to give witness to the unity of their faith with this community. OUR THEME FOR TODAY is Do Not Be Afraid. Even as we have fearful days in our lives, there was plenty of fear to go around early Easter morning. But the disciples learned that there is hope and confidence in Jesus. TODAY S WORSHIP (*) Those who are able are asked to stand for these parts of the Service. WELCOME AND GREETINGS P: Alleluia, Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! -1-

3 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN ANTHEM (8:45 am) All The Earth With Joy Is Sounding Sounds of Praise (Please turn to LSB 462 to follow along.) (10:15 am) He s Risen Cherub Choir SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The First Reading for the Resurrection of our Lord is from Acts, chapter ten. 34 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. 39 "We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Acts 10:34-43 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. L: The Second Reading is from Colossians, chapter three. 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand to sing.) (*) RESPONSE (LSB 469, st. 1) Christ the Lord is ris n today! Saints on earth and angels say; Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heav ns, and earth, reply. -3-

4 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN (*) GOSPEL PROCESSION We share a joyful Easter tradition. The Gospel will be read from the center of the congregation to symbolize that the risen Christ is in the midst of his people. (Please turn toward the place from which the Gospel will be read.) (*) GOSPEL READING L: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-eighth chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. ' Now I have told you." 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." Matthew 28:1-10 P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. (*) RESPONSE (LSB 469, st. 6) Hail the Lord of earth and heav n! Praise to Thee by both be giv n! Thee we greet triumphant now: Hail, the resurrection, Thou! (Please be seated.) CHILDREN'S MESSAGE (Parents, please feel free to come forward with your younger children.) HYMN Jesus Lives! 5 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN (*) CONFESSION OF FAITH (Luther s explanation of the 2 nd Article.) I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, even as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true. (Please be seated.) GATHERING OF THE OFFERINGS (The pastor will collect any special prayer request cards during this time.)
