CELEBRATION WORSHIP TODAY - While we use newer and older songs in all our services, it is our custom to use a greater portion of newer songs in the later service on the second Sunday of each month. OUR THEME FOR TODAY is A Family of Believers Sharing His Fullness: Honoring the Past. Today we Celebrate and give thanks for our family members who shared the fullness of God s blessings and pointed us to Jesus. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire," says the Lord Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them. 2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well- fed calves. 3 Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act," says the Lord Almighty. 4 "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. 5 "See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction." NEW SUNDAY BIBLE CLASSES beginning November 20 at 9:20 am THE GOSPELS: WHAT ABOUT THOSE DISCIPLES? Where does each Gospel writer leave the relationship with Jesus and His disciples and how does this impact our walk of discipleship today? It is freeing to see that the Gospels are okay with leaving the disciples with doubt and questions. They didn t have it all figured out and look what God did through them! Pastor Koglin is blessed to facilitate this conversation. STICKY FAITH: I have had parents speak to me in tears about adult children who no longer go to church. My heart goes out to them. As parents, we desire that our child(ren) will stay connected to a family of Christ and pass that faith onto their family. This class will work through the concepts put forth by Kara Powell and Chap Clark in their book Sticky Faith. We will also get real with this. If all it took was for us to read a book to make something happen, the world would not have many problems. The book will be a springboard for us to jump into real life. I hope you join us, this class may just have eternal benefits for you and your child. Michael Harvey will lead this class. LIFE SKILLS IN 5 STEPS Be part of this class where you will be equipped, empowered, and energized! All these skills are offered to our Christ Care leaders through their training, but we've found that these skills have applications to many aspects of a person's work life, church life, and home life. 13 UPDATES FROM THE FOUNDATION TEAM What's next you might ask? Redeemer Elders, Council, Foundation Team and Staff offer you these Four Steps: First, Foremost, and Always - Pray. This is the most important action we can do as a Family of Believers together and on our own. Place our hope, present, and future in the hands of our loving and mighty Savior! Second - Celebrate. Celebrate what the Lord did through the God-ordained Call process that led us to Pastor Koglin as the next Administrative Pastor of our church family. Church leadership plans to focus now on celebration. That celebration will culminate in Pastor Koglin's Installation service on December 11 at 4 pm with a family meal to follow. Our leadership requests all Redeemer members to join together in this day of celebration. Third - Rest in the Christmas season. Christmas is about Jesus - Jesus' coming to love, care, lead, and save His people. Christmas is about focusing our attention on the "good news of great joy that is for all people." We intentionally plan to focus on Christmas and the peace, joy, and good tidings it brings and not make any next steps now. Fourth - Get Informed. On January 15 at 12:30 p.m., we will have our Annual Voters Meeting. This meeting will be an opportunity to see what this Family of Believers has been up to in 2016 and plans to do in President Dean Nadasdy will also join us at this meeting to talk next steps and give us his wisdom as we move into calling our next Associate Pastor. PRAYER TEAM We pray for guidance for the Council and the Foundation Team as they move forward with the next phase of transition in our call process. We pray that the Holy Spirit will lead them to the right decisions for our Redeemer family - knowing that only One knows the future and He holds us all in the palm of His hand -... to Him be the glory!! BEST PRACTICES FOR MINISTRY CONFERENCE: A great opportunity to Grow in Christ and be Encouraged! On February of 2017 the Best Practices for Ministry conference will take place at Christ Church-Lutheran in Phoenix, AZ. The great location is only a small part of what makes this conference worth looking into! The conference is free; the food is free. Participants just need to get to and from the conference and to pay for lodging. This conference is so impactful and helpful that Redeemer is offering up to 10, $400 scholarships to help lay leaders get to and from the conference! Date: Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 Time: Starting at 5 pm Where: Redeemer Fellowship Hall Cost: $12 Schedule: 5 pm Christmas boutique opens: silent auction, white elephant sale, baked goods, and quilts.. 6 pm Catered meal by Gleason s, followed by a carol sing, Secret Sister exchange, door prizes and a quilt raffle winner announced. Please look for the set with your name in the upper right-hand corner. If you are available, your help would be appreciated. YOUTH CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE! Each year the youth share their talents with the Family of Believers during the 11:00pm Christmas Eve Service. The signup sheet is on the youth bulletin board. There is a place for youth with a wide variety of talents, we need youth for lights, sound, singing, acting, props, ushers, projection and more! Sign up ASAP as Michael tries to create a custom script that matches the youth that will be sharing. If you are not a youth, we encourage you to come and see this special Christmas Eve tradition. The service includes candlelight and communion and takes you into the start of Christmas Day. It is worth the late night! RADA FUNDRAISER The youth are selling cutlery by RADA. You will be able to order individual knives, gifts, sets, etc. Also available will be recipe books, candles, and more. Many of the youth have a catalog to show you what they have. If interested, the youth have prices also. We will be selling these until the first of December. NEW CHRIST CARE GROUP New Small Group-Christ Care Group will meet again Monday, November 21, at 6:30 pm at Redeemer. Adults of all ages are welcome to learn, share and discuss scripture. 15 NEW YOUTH FUNDRAISER! Hello Redeemer! The Family Ministry Team is planning an ADVENT FESTIVAL Sunday, December 4, 3 to 5 pm The Christmas season can be a very busy time of the year with our focus often going in all sorts of directions. By having the Fair at the beginning of the season, we can share ideas for decorations, traditions, music, food, and other ways to help us focus on the reason for the season. We are inviting any individuals, Christ Care, or any other groups who would like to participate. A sign-up sheet and registration form is available at the Welcome Center. Possible ideas: Your favorite Christmas cookie/candy- bring 4-6 dozen for sampling and recipe Any other favorite ethnic Christmas treat bring samples for tasting and recipe Demonstrate how to make Lefse- plan to allow sampling Demonstrate how to make a Christmas ornament- bring supplies for attendees to make Display Advent wreaths, Advent calendars, etc. Demonstrate how to make an Advent wreath, bring supplies Display Nativity scenes - many groups or individuals can be part of this. Coloring station- make both children and adult Christmas coloring sheets. Beverage station- hot chocolate in a crock pot, seasoned apple cider, etc. We have a NEW fundraiser we are doing as a youth ministry coming up on November 15. We are having a family meal at Texas Roadhouse in Rochester that evening. Every year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout event. Encourage someone you know to use the date to make a plan to quit, or plan in advance and then quit smoking that day. By quitting even for 1 day smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing their cancer risk. About 40 million Americans still smoke cigarettes, and tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the world. While cigarette smoking rates have dropped (from 42% in 1965 to 17% in 2014), cigar, pipe, and hookah other dangerous and addictive ways to smoke tobacco are very much on the rise. Smoking kills people there s no safe way to smoke tobacco. Quitting smoking has immediate and long-term benefits at any age. Quitting is hard, but you can increase your chances of success with help. Getting help through counseling or medications can double or triple the chances of quitting successfully. Why quit? The health benefits begin the moment you stop smoking. Quitting at any age can give you back years of life that would be lost by continuing to smoke. 20 minutes Your heart rate and blood pressure drop. 12 hours The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal. 2 weeks 3 months Your circulation improves, and your lung function increases. 1-9 months Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia start to regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection. 1 year The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of someone who continues to smoke. Your heart attack risk drops dramatically. 5 years Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder are cut in half. Cervical cancer risk falls to that of a non-smoker after 2-5 years. 10 years The risk of dying from lung cancer is about half that of a person who is still smoking. The risk of cancer of the larynx (voice box) and pancreas decreases. 15 years The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker s. Get the help you need.
