2 Family of Believers: In Prayer I have heard members in hard moments of life say that they felt covered, surrounded, blanketed, and bathed in prayer. The joy in their faces. The hope that this gives them. The trust in Jesus that I witness as a Pastor is remarkable to see. This year Pastor Loos and I, our staff, and our Elders invite you to con nue to be a part of that. Not just in the hard moments of life, but in the daily moments of life. Use this page in the Resource each month to help us pray for every member of this Family of Believers. Let us have these prayers, not just happen in church, but in our homes and lives as well! As a pastor, I pray this year will help even more people know and say that they are blanketed, covered, surrounded and bathed in prayer by their Family of Believers! Cut it out and put it on your fridge or place it on your bathroom mirror. Take a picture of it on your phone and carry it with you during the day! What be er ac on can we do for each other than to trust each other to Jesus and pray for His help, His comfort, His healing, and His eternal care! Thanks for praying! 3 Staff Reflections We are only three weeks in and I have already seen God doing powerful things as we pray for each family in our Family of Believers. God is using your prayers and your notes, s, phone calls, le ers, cards, and hallway conversa ons when you tell people you are praying for them to strengthen them in their faith! Which brings me to this great moment between Jesus and Simon Peter: Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to si you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon that your faith may not fail! And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Luke 22:31 32 Wow! How powerful is that. To hear Jesus say I have prayed for you! And no ce His prayer, that your faith may not fail strengthen your brothers! Let us make His prayer our prayer for ourselves and our Family of Believers. Let us use this prayer drive as an opportunity to pray for the faith of each person at Redeemer! We do this because, as Luther said, I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ my Lord or come to Him. But the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gi s, SANCTIFIFED AND KEPT ME IN THE TRUE FAITH (Explana on to Third Ar cle). And Luther said that because Hebrews reminds us to, Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the AUTHOR and PERFECTER of our Faith! Prayer is a confession that we need Jesus to bring us to, strengthen us in, and keep us in the true faith. I pray that you, like the father in Mark 9:24, come before the Author and Perfecter of your faith and say Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief! Moreover, as you do that, go and follow Jesus encouragement to Peter, strengthen your brothers and sisters. Let us extend this great moment of Jesus with Peter to the people God places in our lives. Make sure your children hear those same words, I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail! Make sure the members of your Christ Care, ladies in your circle, friends in your life, and each member of our Family of Believers hears those same powerful words I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. Extend this powerful moment of Jesus with Peter to those in your life! And I pray, that others will do the same for you! For this reason I kneel before the Father so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith Ephesians 3:14,17 With this in mind we constantly pray for you that by his power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 12 In Faith, Pastor Adam Koglin Church Office Hours: M-F 7:30 am-4:00 pm Phone: Fax: office@redeemer-rochester.com Website: Blessed to Serve Pastor, Adam Koglin AKoglin@redeemer-rochester.com (office) (cell) Pastor, Benjamin L. He greatly enjoyed many outdoor ac vi es including hun ng and fishing. He was a member of Redeemer since 1964, where he served as an Elder for several years. He enjoyed traveling and casino trips with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a story or joke to make those around him laugh. He also loved spending me playing card games with his grandchildren and trea ng them to donuts every chance he could. Ecclesiastes 3:4 says that there is a me under the sun "to weep, and a me to laugh, a me to mourn and a me to dance. I will always remember Orvis telling jokes and smiling even in more difficult situa ons. He wanted to make others feel good or laugh, even if he wasn t. I thank God for Orvis and for the hope that we have in Christ Jesus of a joyful heavenly reunion where Orvis (and our!) joy will be truly complete and there will only be love, laughter, and joy beyond all imagina on. To make up over $15,000 of the deficit in one month is remarkable. This leaves us only $18,000 short and in a great posi on to finish strong. Each month I have been sharing one reason that inspires Anna and me to give generously here at Redeemer. This month I want to remind you of the eternal differences God is making here. One great picture of that is our last new member class. In that class we had an adult who just recently was bap zed and has come to know Jesus, and we had two adults that we connected with through the Rochester Servant Event who now have a family to call home that will point them to Jesus. Eternal differences are being made! One more reason Anna and I love giving to God s mission at Redeemer! 9 STEPHEN MINISTRY Stephen Ministers: A Heart for the Hurting Riverview Church Pastor s Blog Posted by Pastor Paul Denherder We all go through tough mes in life. Times that are turbulent and unse ling. In the midst of these challenging seasons, it can be extremely helpful to have someone come alongside us to give understanding and encouragement to provide stability, hope, and Biblical principles to help us through the storm. That is what a Stephen Minister is able to provide: a listening ear, a suppor ve perspec ve, and God s Word to help us through the challenges of life. Who Are Stephen Ministers? They are compassionate individuals who are trained to help us when we encounter loss, grief, rela onship challenges, and a myriad of things that can throw our lives into a tailspin. These Stephen Ministers are not counselors. They are not know it all. They are not individuals who try to fix everyone s troubles. They simply provide love, care, and support when we need it most. A Stephen Minister is a caring individual who can help us navigate our present situa on. Perhaps you, a friend, or a family member would benefit from this kind of help and support. If so, a Stephen Minister may be just what is needed. Becoming a Stephen Minister For those who want to come alongside and support others in a more inten onal way, we provide training to become a Stephen Minister. Through the 50 hours of training, you will receive prac cal, hands on learning and resources to provide Christ centered care and meet the emo onal and spiritual needs of others. You will use the skills you learn not only in your caring ministry but also in your rela onships with family, friends, and coworkers. You will always be helped and supported in your ministry by our team of Stephen Leaders, who will help you grow as you help others. Being a Stephen Minister may be one of the most rewarding opportuni es you will ever embrace. To Find Out More To learn how a Stephen Minister can help you or someone you know or how you can become a Stephen Minister contact Pastor Ben Loos through the church office at or by at: pastorbenloos@gmail.com. Health Notes The Loop, Hearing Aids and Hearing Loss! A er the loop was installed there has been a lot of conversa on about individuals being hard of hearing. Common areas of concern are how being hard of hearing affects communica on between spouses, in families and in other rela onships. On Sunday November 25, Mary Meier Olmsted Medical Group, Dr. of Audiology, will present during the Bible Study hour (between the 8 and 10:40 am services). The goals of this Health Forum include: To answer hearing loop ques ons To answer hearing aid ques ons To learn ways you can be more sensi ve to people who have hearing loss To learn about the personal hearing devices that work with the hearing loop. Some people who do not have hearing aids or do not have telecoil for loops in their hearing aids to make the loop compa ble, can s ll borrow from the Welcome Center a special listening device. Ask an usher or an Elder if there is a device that you can borrow. Advanced age is the most common type of hearing loss in older adults. Not all people are affected. Don t assume if someone is old that they have hearing loss!! 45% of people in their 60 s have hearing loss. 68% of people in their 70 s have hearing loss. This hearing loss is called presbycusis. Other reasons for hearing loss are infec ons or allergies that can block the Eustachian tube. Eustachian tube dysfunc ons improve when the infec on goes away. But if not, a doctor can prescribe decongestants and an histamines to help reduce the inflamma on. Meniere s syndrome is not an uncommon disorder that alters the amount, flow and chemical composi on of endolymph, the fluid in the inner ear. Also tumors called neuromas can cause sudden loss of hearing. The point is that a doctor or an audiologist should be seen for hearing loss of any kind. Symptoms of hearing loss are not hearing someone who is talking behind you or across the room from you, people are mumbling when they are speaking, trouble hearing on the phone, or listening to TV and radio at a loud volume, or not hearing the alarm ring. Or my favorite, not being able to hear when the person speaking looks away or has something over their mouth. Bring your ques ons and comments about the hearing loop, hearing aids and hearing loss to a professional on November 25!! She will even answer ques ons about OTC hearing aids!! Aarp.org and hearing loop materials. Page 11

14 Creation Corner We had a very successful conference. God blessed our efforts and we reached many people with the truth of God s Word from the very first verse Genesis 1: people went through the Semisaurus Museum 175 people a ended the three nights of the conference Three parochial schools and some home schooled kids heard Brian speak Four inmates at the Federal Medical Prison heard Brian speak for two hours! We will be star ng to plan for a return visit of the museum. Let me know if you are interested in ge ng involved in this. We plan on making it an outreach opportunity with much more visibility for the museum. Maybe Rochester Fest or the County Fair or?? Bring your ideas to the table. People are amazed when they realize that Genesis isn t just a bunch of fairy tales that they were taught in Sunday School, but real history and it is backed by evidence suppor ng the Biblical worldview!! Speaking of that I am interested in suppor ng the Sunday School teachers with a current list of the DVD s that we have in our church library and also the scale model of Noah s Ark that we have at the church. Please feel free to use any of these resources for your classes or ask me if you need anything else. This is such an important focus for Chris anity today. There are surveys that indicate that anywhere from 65% to 85% of kids are leaving churches a er high school, and the number one reason the 1000 people surveyed cited was the age of the earth. That age being the one they are told in school, media and in books everywhere! We are in a war and need to be taking up our weapons figh ng the ba le. The Bible is clear. Let s stand on it. I am also interested in seeing if there are people that would like to go on the Rim and Ra Grand Canyon Tour next summer that Jay Seegert is offering. It is the same one that I went on this summer and spoke about in Week 4 of our Crea on Bible Study that just finished. My is jvanproosdy@yahoo.com. Let me know if you are interested in helping with Semisaurus planning or going on the Grand Canyon Tour next summer and any other ideas you might have! Remember the Word of God in 2 Peter 3:3 6 3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, Where is this coming He promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of crea on. 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that me was deluged and destroyed. The world denies that there was a global flood, but there is all kinds of evidence screaming otherwise Come Lord Jesus John VanProosdy Page 14

16 Prayer #1 Dear Lord, we thank you for your goodness, your mercy and your grace. Help us to assist Bethesda Lutheran Communities (Bethesda) in providing funding for these faith-filled services. We ask You to use these books to fill the hearts of those served with Your presence and joy. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Prayer #2 Heavenly Father, we thank you for this wonderful opportunity to be a blessing to so many sisters and brothers in Christ with intellectual disabilities. Thank you for Bethesda Lutheran Communities work in providing the homes and services. We pray that the Holy Spirit will work through this ministry. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Prayer #3 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:14). We worship and praise your holy name. We lift our eyes to see Your glory. We thank You with our hymns of praise. Lord, all the world is Yours! You are Lord over all! May Your Spirit fill those served by Bethesda with the knowledge that they are wonderfully made by You. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Prayer #4 Gracious Heavenly Father, all we have is Yours. In thanksgiving and praise, we give You our mission offering that it might, through Bethesda, share your gift of salvation. In Jesus Holy name we pray. Amen. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:14). Bethesda Lutheran Communities (Bethesda) is a nationally recognized organization that provides homes, support, and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities. It has had a mission to provide services that will enhance lives with the sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ for over 110 years. Bethesda, through its Lifting Up Bethesda program, works to break down barriers for people with intellectual disabilities so that they can become part of their church body; and ministry consultants work to ensure the individuals are welcomed in the Word and Sacrament. The costs associated with the integral faith-based support part of their services are not subject to state reimbursement. These services rely heavily on volunteers, ministry partners, congregational support and private donors. Travel is an essential part of their faith-based support services. Bethesda provides services to over 1900 individuals in over 13 states. Mission Grant #15, Sharing Jesus with People with Intellectual Disabilities, will assist with the travel expenses of the Bethesda ministry consultants who visit the individuals they support, as well as, assist with visits to congregations and other faith partners. This grant will help in funding the ministry consultants leaders; and will promote increasing congregational awareness and support of these faithbased services. Page 16
